NO HERO #0

by Warren Ellis & Juan Jose Ryp

The hottest series of the summer is beginning right now, as Ellis and Ryp unleash their next epic on the world! The superstar team that made Black Summer an instant fan-favorite are back and revolutionizing masked heroes yet again! Warren Ellis & Juan Jose Ryp have created an exciting new universe that explodes into action in this zero chapter. In 1966, a group of superhumans emerged in San Francisco, guided by the man whose unique new drugs gave them their incredible powers. Calling themselves The Levellers, this unified front stood against street crimes and corruption, in defense of their city against any and all assault. Years have passed, and we fast-forward through the tumultuous events of those early years to today, where the idealistic Levellers have gone through four incarnations to become The Front Line. But the team is not the only thing that's advanced over the years, and there are no easy victories when their luck finally begins to run out! This #0 issue is not a preview, it features the essential first chapter of the story and is available with a Regular or Wraparound cover by Ryp, as well as a rare 1-in-15 Design Sketch Edition featuring the initial character designs by Ryp.

MATURE THEMES

Looks awesome! Kind of sounds like what I imagine the Seven Guns doing before things fell apart for them.

I'll but it but I'm worried that it'll suffer from Black Summer like delays.

And that is why I'm waiting for the Black Summer trade. This looks good too, and my only problem with it is intensely nitpicky. A "serialized graphic novel?" C'mon. It's a mini-series. That's not a dirty word, Mr. Ellis.

The Black Summer delays have never been the creative team's fault. The first delay had something to do with Avatar and Diamond screwing up shipping or recieving. The second delay (between five and six) was due to problems at the printers.

Warren has talked a little about "serialized graphic novel." He views Black Summer (and probably some other works of his, but he only mentioned Black Summer) as being graphic novels, rather than monthlies or a miniseries or whatever. He said that is how Black Summer and No Hero would be best appreciated, but he can't do it that way for whatever reason. I'm guessing it has something to do with the way the industry works. OGNs pretty much have to manga-sized or noone buys them, with a few exceptions. That is really a whole other topic though.

No Hero looks really cool. It looks kind of in the same mindset as Black Summer, with vigilantes being a rare thing in the reality of the book; and the inklings of transhumanism.

It is scheduled for a July start. Black Summer should come out in May and June, and No Hero starts the month after!

Ellis talks Aetheric Mechanics and No Hero with Previews (http://previewsworld.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=23&s=126&ai=69330&ssd=), gets classically snarky with the interview right off the bat.

No Hero sounds more interesting with each tidbit of info I read.

Issue 0 was great. I think the Black Summer 0 was better but that's ok, we still have some issues to go. Ryp's art is so rad. Reminds me a lot of Geoff Darrow. I just love that style.

I bought way too many variants of this in SD.

No Hero seems to fall somewhere between Black Summer and Watchmen.

It has come to my attention that many of you have
not bought NO HERO #0. Perhaps you thought that
there was nothing important in there. Perhaps you
thought, pah, a dollar, how good can that be?

It's the first chapter. You'll need it. Also, it has
hippie superheroes beating on Oakland cops.
Your local store can order it for you. If they refuse,
or claim they can't get it, you can legally burn
down their premises. Really. I checked and
everything. Have I ever lied to you?

About anything important, I mean.
