It's cool to find such a large community of comic readers. This looks to be a large community, so I hope my post like this isn't repetitive. I'll start off by saying that i'm new to buying comic titles, but I've been a fan of Batman/X-Men, etc. for sometime, just not actually reading the comics. I first started buying comics with The Vinyl Underground, and it's now on issue #7. Since that time i've had a pull list of about 20+ comics, but being in college has taken away any time to actually read them all. So since then, I've mainly only read Vinyl Underground and Jonah Hex. I really like them both. Since my humble comic start, here is what i've pulled for DC.
Action Comic, Batman, Catwoman, Detective Comics, Flash, Jonah Hex, Scalped, Simon Dark, Superman, The Vinyl Underground and I recently added the pre-order of Final Crisis to the list.
I'll be catching up on all of these titles in about a week and a half once I reach summer break. I like what little i've read so far, but what are some of your opinions on those titles? Are there any titles that are great reads that you recommend? I would also like to say that I purchased the entire set of 52, but haven't read it either. I also haven't read any of Countdown. When Final Crisis releases, having read neither of the above series, do you think I will be completely lost when I start reading?

After you read 52, I'd recommend trying out the new Booster Gold series (it spins out of 52). The first TPB is coming out in May. Its got a lot of in jokes and such, but I've only gotten back into comics for about a year now since dropping them as a kid and I still enjoyed the series a lot. I really like Booster's underdog quality he's been written with lately.
You like Jonah Hex so you're willing to try some of the other newer heroes (well relaunched sort of new), so you might like the new Blue Beetle. The first 3 TPBs are out already, and by the time you decide to check them out the 4th might be out as well.

Naw, mein freund. Final Crisis is completely self-contained. God bless Grant Morrison.

I would recomend Green Lantern right now it just started Hal Jordan's Secret Origin last issue and is a perfect jumping on point for a new fan.

I'd recommend Birds of Prey, a generally bright and fun read in the same sort of vein as Catwoman. If you're enjoying Batman, Detective and Catwoman then you'll probably like Birds of Prey.

Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps. The two best titles DC has published in twenty years. And don't start at Secret Origin. Start at Green Lantern: Rebirth and read everything, you will love it. It's the only two books that can hold a candle to stuff like Immortal Iron Fist, Captain America, Daredevil and Ultimate Spidey.

Well I tried out Booster Gold, issue #5. I was in a rush and picked it up from the shop. I really didn't like it. It just wasn't for me. I'll give Green Lanter/Corps a try. I've wanted to have those titles pulled for the longest, but it just seemed like there was so much "stuff" going on in the comics that I wouldn't know where to start.

Start with GL #29 it's already out and it's Geoff's re-telling of Hal's origin mixed with some Red Lantern stuff, #30 comes out next week. Rebirth is out on trade and so is The Sinestro Corps War Volume 1, Volume 2 should be out in a couple of months.

Well that is a bad starting on point. By issue 5 the arc was already well underway. *shrug* Maybe part of the reason I really got into it was that I had just gotten off 52 (and you really need to read 52 first or at least see Booster's JLU ep recently) for it to click, imho.
