Well, at least I'm in Portland, four hours or so from home still, but a lot closer.

What a great con. Exhausting and insane, but great.

One of the nicest things was the Steve Gerber tribute. It was great to see that he touched so many people's lives so deeply. I'll talk about this more when I get home, but I have to say that Martin Pasko is simply one of the nicest people I've ever met. I cried when Steve's daughter spoke, and I teared up a little bit again later when I thought of what Martin had said to me.

The readers in New York, holy crap, they were so awesome. I don't have the time to say it all here because I'm trying to get out of this hotel, but hopefully later today.

So many great people and memories. I have to record them!

the butt kicking she did in her Salvation Run cross over, she can't be considered too nice. Of course having Catman and Catwoman on one time might be too many cats

I had to look that up. I'm clearly slipping.

It was great getting to say Hi to you at the Con, Gail. I hope you have ample amount of time to recover. I'm still exhausted, and I was just an attendee.

Yeah, and you know how it is when you have more than one cat. They start ignoring everyone else and show even less interest in their owners.

I remember the spat you almost had with him when he first came her on these boards, so puts a smile on me face to hear you say that. :)

Enjoyed the panel. Well worth the super stinky ReBoot fan me and my associate were crammed behind the hour before.

Just a note to thank Gail for her kind words in this forum and to add the following:

What can you say about someone as talented as Gail Simone who exhibits such sincere feelings of honor at being complimented by someone like Steve Gerber? You tell her that the Steve Gerber you knew never b.s.-ed anybody about stuff like that. I've never known any guy who was less of a suckup in my life.

At NYCC, I watched Gail at the DC booth, energetically, smilingly, and graciously signing books for a long, long line of people and I marveled at her composure and poise. It is a rare, grounded individual who can exist in the eye of the whirlwind she's experiencing and yet remain so genuinely sweet. False modesty is a commonplace in our business, as well as a turn-off, but in only five minutes with Gail, you know right away that her humility is anything but false. It is, however, undeserved. I consider it a great honor and pleasure to be getting to know her better, and I echo Steve's question: "Do you know how good you are?"

If I wanted to be so presumptuous as to attempt speaking for all the veteran talent I know who respect and admire Gail as both person and writer, I would recall the anecdote film historians relate about Old Hollywood stars Marilyn Monroe and the decades-older Ginger Rogers, who worked together at the beginning of Monroe's popularity. Monroe was nervous that Rogers would hate her because the director was giving Monroe all the closeups in their scenes together. Rogers is said to have smiled warmly and, while stepping out of Monroe's keylight, replied, "I've had mine, kiddo. Now it's your turn."
