I played this game the other night for about 10 minutes with some LRS (Logistics & Readiness Squadron) guys and it was pretty amazing. I am not a fan of Mortal Kombat games at all really, but now I will buy a PS3 just for this game (since I have seen it). Joker's "Put er' there!" move is great!
So, are there unlockable characters or are all of the additonal characters slated to be downloadable at some point in time?

You unlock Darkseid by beating the DC story, and Shao Kahn is unlocked by beating the MK story. I believe it has been reported that Midway does plan to release characters as downloadable content at some point in the future with rumors pointing to Lobo and Reptile as being the first two. Personally, I think Firestorm would be a cool character as I don't ever recall him being in a videogame before. For the MK side, I would like to see Goro or Kintaro.

Thanks! I wonder if they will ever decide to include alternate downloadable costumes (like movie universe variants since WB is in the loop of things).

I can't read the article at work because of Mozilla but Midway games was sold today for one hundred thousand dollars. Either this game isn't doing very well at all or the game came way too late to save Midway from being sold.
Midway was dead by the time TNA Impact flopped.

On November 21, 2008 Midway games received a NYSE delisting notice since the stocks fell under one dollar per a share.
On December 2, 2008 Sumner Redstone sold his 87 percent stake in Midway Games to Mark Thomas, a private investor. Thomas paid approximately $100,000, or $0.0012 per share. Thomas also took on $70 million of Midway Games' debt. National Amusements took a significant loss on the sale, however the loss improved the company's tax situation.
On Decmber 5, 2008 the Chicago Tribune reported that Midway would default on $240 million of debt after the recent sale of stock to Mark Thomas triggered clauses in two bonds allowing the bondholders to ask for full repayment. According to Variety Midway currently has $10.3 million in assets.

This game has sold, worldwide, around 220 thousand copies. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Considering the price, good.
Considering the situation, horribly underachieving (compared to the super lofty goals needed to survive.)

My numbers were wrong. I found a better website that puts worldwide sales at 175, 000 unless I'm reading it wrong again. That said sales should skyrocket soon because this game is only out in America and I think Japan.

It will probably do great numbers for Christmas (considering the last minute shoppers)...

I hired it out the other night, solid game, the overall idea is a little flawed.
I know MK fans have blown up. I think nothing would annoy them more than seeing Wonder Woman tie up their icey, murderous hero "Sub Zero" with little effect (that's if they play the DC storyline like I did :D) in which she did. I actually found it quite comedic when Captain Marvel owned Scorpian too. Alot of MK fans are not impressed.
Not a bad game, I never got around to playing the MK side, I'm just too biased.

Bought the game yesterday, had a hard time putting it down. Had so much fun with it. The fatalities/brutalities are complete crap (not to mention Shao Khan and Darkseid don't have any fatalities), but it's hard to not have fun with the Joker and Captain Marvel. Easily my two favorites in the game.
But I agree with online. I hate battling the same damn characters. Last night the only ones I played against were Lu Kang, Subzero, Flash, and Batman. the ONLY ones I played in about 15 matches. It was annoying. Doesn't help I suck at fighting games as it is...

I only saw one person do a fatality when I was watching these 3 guys play it. Raiden picked up Scorpion and electricuted him until he was only a skeleton (not like it takes much in Scorpion's case). My question is; Are the fatalities such as these "victim-specific"? I mean, can Raiden incinerate Superman's flesh via electricity as well? If so, are they explaining it as though the magical nature of the MK realm has weakend Superman (and other characters) or something?

It works the other way too. Hardcore DC fans have to be upset that humans that would that normal humans or low level mutahumans are able to kick Superman's butt even though Batman done it a bunch of times.

I definately see your point Lester. However, I do believe Raiden could give Kal-El a good run for his money based on the fact that he's an immortal god.
But yeah, Sonya/Jax and the other human based characters just don't square up. I'd take the Bat over any of them outside of Sub Zero and Scorpian. I'd also take GL, Flash, Wonder Woman, Deathstroke and Captain Marvel over the human based characters in MK as well (apart from Sub Zero and Scorpian)
They have given Superman props in the storyline though, with him being singled out as the "champion" that needs to be defeated in Mortal Kombat and he's unusable in the storyline right until the end of the game. But yeah, it's a flawed idea and I felt it was a bit of a reach. Still fun to play though, for a good couple of days.

SPOILER ALERT
It isnt really explained in depth, though from what I got out of the storyline was that each character had lost their powers because both worlds collided and somehow it mucked around with powers/abilities.
Superman was controllable, evidence to the fact that when he went into his "rage" zone he almost killed Lex until Batman (like usual) talked some sense into him.
Each character (both from DC and MK) are controlled by this aura called "rage" in which each character just fly's off the handle. I thought Captain Marvel got some good burn actually, they really did a good job with him exploding into fits of rage and explaining the situation and how it affects him.
But yeah, Superman is vulnerable, and Raiden is no long immortal (the two biggest characters in the game, both are portrayed that way anyway).

Wow, thank you for that great explanation! I'll still pick this one up when I get back to the U.S. Looks & sounds like a solid game!

It's also explained that Superman is de-powered because his powers have been distributed to all of the DC combatants. That's why the Joker is so tough and able to beat the crap out of people. And why some of the more human DC characters can take the damage that is dished out.
I thought the story mode did a good job of explaining how these characters could face each other without getting killed right away, as well as why the heros would be fighting each other in some of the battles. Don't get me wrong, the story is sorta cheesy, but it's pretty good for what it is.

Each character's fatalities or brutalities work the same on any character. It's revealed in the story mode how characters like Superman are vulnerable and characters like the Joker can stand toe-to-toe with everyone (see the posts above this one).

I hate fighting games so I won't be picking this up. I know I should as really pulling for Midway but I just can't justify buying a game I'm not going to play no matter how good the cause.

Is a follow-up to this game not likely then? Or does it mean that another company would have to produce it somehow?
Also, do you htink that the fall & debt of Midway will affect the possbility of the planned downloadable characters down the road?
Basically, I just really want to see other DC characters in this type of game. Here's to hope!

I still think they'll try to make some DLCs...
And check out the recent Mkast video at worldscollide.com to find out about the future of MK (not much info, but hey, it's something).

I finally finished the arcade mode for all the characters. The endings were really clever merges of both universes. Too cool! L. Kang's ending had a neat tie to Captain Marvel. Superman's was pretty cool too. It showed how Superman takes steps to guard himself against magic.
The Kombo Challenges are really tough for me. Which is a shame, because unlocking trophies has become an addiction!
I really hope the dlc comes out on Christmas Day. That'd be so awesome! I won't hold my breath though. I will request Mileena, Johnny Cage, Reptile, Lobo, Gorilla Grodd, Aquaman, and Robin be included.

I don't recall Batman ever actually "kicking Superman's butt" in both a fair fight and one that's in continuity.
I mean, "Sacrifice" pretty clearly shows that if Superman suddenly decides "hey Bats, let's fight!" Bruce is pretty much completely powerless to stop Clark from destroying him.

Picked this up online with some Gamestop gift cards I got for Christmas. Finally arrived today.
Man, is this game completely awesome or what?
Most fun I've had with a fighting game in about about as long as I can remember.
