What a diverse set of leaders. One can barely speak English and thinks he the embodiment of God! And the other is the leader of the Catholic Church.
RIM SHOT!

One skipped out on his armed forces contract.
The other volunteered for the Hitler Youth.
Sorry. That wasn't very ironic, was it?

I wonder if the Catholic Church has some sort of equivalent to the penance stare. If so, this could be a very interesting meeting.

For the record, the statues were already posed like that when I found them in Chinatown.

You know who else has indirect ties to nazis? The governator. He was Austrian, not German though and his dad was a nazi.

that's old news. obviously, everyone living in Germany a few decades ago has ties to the Nazi party. It was their one and only political party that killed you if you did not go along with them. Though it's hard to determine who were the ones who agreed with their genetic cleansing and who didn't but could not say at the time.

So you are saying you hate the pope because you are Jewish and he was a Nazi? Okay, I'm cool with that. And if you weren't Jewish and didn't join you would be dead. I am not condoning joining ANY genocidal organization but the pope is an anti racist fer christs sake.

Luckily, my direct descendants decided to cut out in the late 19th and early 20th century.
I don't really like the pope on principle. The "oh wait... i'm a jew" thing was more of a "I don't think they'd ask me to join" type joke. Not "I'm a jew, I hate NAZIs" as I don't think I really need a personal stake in order to hate NAZIs.

How about
"RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter met an ex-minister in Hamas' government on Tuesday, defying Israeli leaders who shunned the Nobel Peace Prize laureate over his contacts with the Islamist group.
Naser al-Shaer, who served as deputy prime minister in the Hamas-led government that the United States and other Western powers boycotted, was greeted by Carter with a hug and kisses to both cheeks, a member of Carter's delegation said.
"Mr. Carter wanted to listen to the positions of different Palestinian figures. The meeting was very good and he promised to continue such meetings," said Shaer, who was among several Palestinian political figures to meet with the former president.

If so it isn't really a very good principle. My atheist friend think that the pope is awesome.

i wouldn´t condemn a man based on things he did as a child.
the guy has plenty of dirty connections.
just some recent stuff:
after becoming pope, ratzy held some ceremonials in his former home territories.
he celebrated the restoration of the new organ of the old chapel to regensburg, which was funded by one of the the chief backgroundorganizers behind the 1999 CDU contributions scandal (German Christian Democratic Union) on lichtensteinian side, herbert batliner.
by that time, batliner was accused by a german office of public prosecutor for fiscal fraud with the sum of 250 MILLION €´s.
but for his benefiting of the old chapel with 70.000 €, he was granted a free pass to visit the inauguration with his old buddy bennydetto.
i think this is absolutly medieval. ratzinger should have to decline any contact till charges were cleared. bavarian authorities are also to blame.
"i donated some money to build up an old church in your country so i have to pay less taxes in my country. my old buddy, the mighty pope is visiting, you can´t deny me, gimme a free pass, no questions plz!"
