I have never read any Spirit before, but I'd like to read some of the best in prep for the Frank Miller movie coming out next year. Does anyone have any suggestion for trades or specific runs that I should read?

Thanks in advance!

We just covered this in another thread, but to sum up:

The Best of the Spirit Good, cheap anthology including the Spirt's origin and a bunch of classic strips.

The Spirit Archives Volume 12 and up are considered the classic period.

There are also reprints from Kitchen Sink (from the 80s) and Warren (from the 70s) that you can sometimes find on ebay for short money.

Heh, you might enjoy the movie better if you wait to read Eisner's until after, from all indications.

Yeah, I was asking this same question a few days ago. I'm gonna go with The Best Of The Spirit TPB myself because it'll give me a good smattering of the best and most important stories and also because it's pretty cheap (at least compared to the Spirit Archives). That way, even if I hate it I won't be too much out of pocket.
