This is Project CBRunway. You're either in or you're out. Who will be CBR’s next big comic character designer?

Good morning, designers. Welcome back to the runway.

Comic designers often must design period costumes. This could be due to the story taking place in the past. It could be a complete reimagining of an existing character. Or it could be due to a character traveling into the past and needing an outfit that avoids drawing attention.

For your sixth challenge you must design an original Western (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_%28genre%29) costume for a past or present Justice League member (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Justice_League_members). The costume should be authentic for the time period but still make the character recognizable.

HOWEVER, a Justice League member may only be chosen once. Designers will choose their characters on a first come first, served basis by posting their pick, upon which the character they've picked will be added to the list below. You may not change your choice once posted. Characters must be chosen by Midnight PDT on Saturday.

You will be judged on creativity and originality and how well your design fits the Western genre while maintaining the spirit and identity of the character. Be careful not to be too literal or cliché . Simply putting a cowboy hat and boots over Superman's costume would equal failure.

In addition to the required written description explaining material, functionality and design inspiration, you should include a brief explanation of why your costume works, in both the past and in maintainting your character's identity.

Submission Requirements
Artwork may be done in any medium but must be in color. As in real comic work, using reference is fine but swiping is frowned upon.
Artwork may be no larger than 550-pixels wide and 800-pixels long.
Entries must be inserted into your PM, using such services as Photobucket.com or imageShack.com. If you are unable to use such a service you may e-mail (mattbib@comcast.net) your entry and we will host the image for you for the duration of the competition.
All submissions should include a written description of the costume, explaining, to the best of your ability, material, functionality, design inspiration, etc. Some rounds may have additional written requirements.
Write-ups are to be no longer than a single PM, which is limited to 5,000 characters, including your image address and all formatting and image tags.You have only five days, through Midnight PDT of Monday, April 14, to Private Message (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=342) (PM) me your entry for this week’s challenge. Be sure to select “Request a read receipt for this message” in the Additional Options section before sending. Failure to complete a challenge will result in immediate elimination from Project CBRunway. There will be no extensions or exceptions.

Aljira and marvelboy2004, you won the last challenge and are safe from elimination... unless you fail to submit an entry.

Post any questions, comments, or concerns about this challenge in this thread, however please do not comment on submissions until the voting thread is posted this coming Tuesday.

Cyborg was a member of the Justice League during Kingdom Come. I don't think I have seen him on the roster in the main DC universe though...

Man... so much hate for the aqua dude in here... I guess I am both foolish and in the play along thread. I want to do his costume. I am thinking a steampunk style design could be really cool. Tieing it directly into a western motif would be difficult, but half of the fun! But I'm already hip deep in other projects so it may be awhile if I do try it though. I'm still thinking through all the other characters left too.

I entertained the idea of picking him and had some interesting ideas for his costume, but then I came to my senses. I don't think anybody wants to touch him with a ten foot pole.

Superman and Aquaman are both easy. Especially Aquaman. I didn't pick Aquaman because I thought it would be too easy and I wanted a challenge.

I can't wait to see what you do with Supes Aljira. I thought about his costume a lot but I don't think I will get to sketching it. I'm picturing a blue duster instead of red cape (because red fades in western desert sun), white Stetson (because good guys wear white hats), red lone ranger shirt with hankerchief, big Gold buckle on a dull yellow leather belt, blue jeans, dull yellow leathery chaps, white boots with red spurs and a super horse. If everyone is cool with it, after all is said & done, I would be willing to throw it up as a JLA Go West Jam style poster. it may take a while, but I think it would be fun to see. I haven't seen those top two!! And while I love the Lone Ranger legacy... I thought the 83' movie was cheezy. I hear tell that a certain mainstream film corporation is doing a remake of the Lone Ranger and it will be out before too long. I look forward to it, but doubt it'll reboot anything... I mean, horses used to really be part of American culture back when LR was popular. Kids in the fifties went to drive-in theaters on horseback and that was a normal thing to do in rural America at that time. It was easier for folks to relate to westerns. So now, it'll prove trickier, expecially considering that westerns aren't as commonly produced as they used to be, but not impossible.

I also left out Fistful of Dollars, Hang Em' High, Who Shot Liberty Valence, and A Man Called Horse. Really just about any John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Robert Mitchum movies of the genre are great. Each made their share of duds, but hey, nobody's perfect.

Anyways, I am interested to see Solaris' Black Canary. Since both Zatanna's costume & Black Canary's (most well known costume) are both somewhat similar.

As for "what should we do?"... give Matt some more time. Yes, we're all really hyped over the contest---but he's really regular about being here, especially for "maintenance days" of the contest. The fact that he hasn't been on since Saturday really makes me worry that his RL may be having a problem; and I hope it's something simple like a computer malfunction, and not something more serious.

So... if he doesn't show, we just wait (with the contest stuff) until he does or until we get word otherwise from him or someone who knows him. Right now I'm more worried that he may be hurt or something... and that takes precedence over any contest.
