Just started getting into Green Lantern. Picked up the new issue of GL Corp today but I have a question about the current arc. The new issue is titled Ringquest Part 2. I went over to get the prior issue of GL Corp. but that was not part 1 of the current arc. Does anybody know where Ringquest Part 1 appears?

GLC #20 was Ringquest part 1, two months were taken off to introduce the Alpha Lanterns because they're going to be in Final Crisis.

Ahhh, thank you very much Seraku. Guess I should go back and pick up the Alpha Lantern issues also.

Alpha Lantern "arc" is Green Lantern Corps 21-22 and Green Lantern 26-28
the GLC ones mainly focuses on Boddikka's origin and such. Wasn't written or pencilled by the normal GLC staff.
GL ones are written by Johns and are vital to the overall story as it shows the red lanterns and the 2nd law.

You don't really have to. Besides, it only focuses on the one Alpha Lantern, the former Lost Lantern Boodika. It isn't essential to any other storyline, it's just a (fairly mediocre) story that filled in a gap in the book's scheduling.

Since this caled "Current Green Lantern Corp. Storyline" I hereby dub this thread the "Ring Quest" discussion thread.
Pretty good, on par with the average Gibbons story. Mongol is starting a "coup" of sorts to take control of the SC and Sodam yat is now at his SC level of power after a quick sunbathe real close to the sun.

Is Mongul trying to take over the Sin Corps or is he just after their rings?

This issue was okay. The biggest problem I felt it was was they were trying to cram too many corps members into one issue. I do think it could be interesting seeing and showing how being a GL causes problems in their civillian lives. I just think this was overdone in this issue. Also can there not be a Mongul relative storyline without those life sucking fantasy creating plants. Its like a rerun over and over again. I would rather see major destruction than plants.
Summary: In this issue it shows Mongul's son gathering rings by murder and finding sinestro corps members to join him. Also shows the private lives of many GLS being wantonly disturbed at the whim of the guardians when they summon them. Appears they are all gonna be sent out on a mission to stop and collect the yellow rings. Sodam and Arisia are caught by Mongul's son.
This issue was okay, just too many familiar story points that it looks like a rerun.

Mongul's son is named Mongul. you don't have to refer to him as "Mongul's Son" Mongul or Mongul II will do

Also Mongul Jr, or simply a Sean Connery-spoken "Junior."

Thanks for confirming this. I just started picking up GLC myself and noticed that the issue was listed as Ringquest part 2 in the preview. Now I have GLC #20 shipping with 23 when it arrives.

My biggest complaint? Half the episode was spent Summoning Lanterns. Sure, we needed to see the the important story thread about how being a Lantern and the Guardian's new attitude was affecting the personal lives of all the Lanterns. But did we need to see it so much? Half the story was taken up by summoning. Had we not spent so much time on that, we could have gotten another page or two of action.

Well he didn't kill the 2 headed Sin Corp member so I'm going with the 1st one

They could have probably used 1 panel for each summoning lantern and condensed it into a single page. Two panels top.

I am wondering is Mongul the Second changing the nature of the plants from showing people's greatest desires to showing their greatest fears.

Did Mongul always have seven fingers? Or is that just a sudden convenience for stealing rings?

Hard to tell in every panel, but I compared the number of fingers in GL # 7-8, and GLC # 20 and 23, and it looks like he has the same amount.
Near the end of # 23 he is holding his fists together. Is that what you are talking about?
Of course, Boodikka made a whole hand with her ring for a while. Maybe Mongul can add some fingers.

Whoops! Good call. So he only has three fingers and a thumb on each hand? I guess that's just as convenient since he'll probably be able to steal every ring except a Green Lantern ring.

That count looks correct. But I don't have any other appearances to reference. But now I looked at the Domination ad image from GL # 27 (and other places, I'm sure). He has an extra finger in that ad! Three different rings. One of which is a GL ring!

This was obviously a tremendously bad issue.
WTF was the writer thinking?
That was so damned idiotic where they had to waste half the issue just showing the various lanterns being called to Oa.

It would've been more obtrusive if he hadn't effectively used the rest of the issue to establish the threat the Corps was facing now and leave us with a pretty stellar cliffhanger. Besides, it gave him the opportunity to reestablish some of the characters (especially Vath and Isamot, and Iolande) and to establish Stel and Sodam all over again (I'd like to see what Stel would've done with all of that space wreckage- imagine a giant mecha Lantern).

Man, it's creepy how attached to those Black Mercys Mongul is.
I'm surprised he's not giving them rings...

I enjoyed the issue, but I can agree too much time was spent with the summoning, but it wasn't overtly distracting or anything.
The two-headed Sinestro guy was pretty cool.
I thought it did a good job creating a feeling of vastness, lack of a defined GL presence, and creepiness of the Vega sector in the comic.

His avatar is definately Ambush Bug.
And your lucky you asked because Keith Giffen is sending out hit squads to take out anyone that doesn't buy the new Ambush Bug mini later this year

Like JC said, it's Ambush Bug. Easily the most down to Earth, sane, well-rounded character in the DC Universe.
And a Jack Zodiac is about fifteen hundred bucks. Unless you go to Mexico to get one.
