Hey all,

i've recently decided to board and bag my collection. it's gonna be tedious, b i figure why not.

anyway my (very noob) questions:

where do you place the board? i've seen it done in the centre of the book, and also at the back of the book.

AND

when placing a board behind a comic in a bag, which side of the board is *facing* the back of the comic?

that is, is it the *waxy* side that makes contact, or the *paper* side?

or does it not matter?

much appreciated...

Put the bag behind the board.

Put the smooth side against the comic, so it's less likely to wear against the cover. Ideally, this side of the board should be more "smooth" and less "waxy".

I have been told that you are ideally supposed to change your comic bags and boards about every six months.....(which I never did)......but thats what I have understood from the people selling all that stuff.....

Im a Mylar guy now........its mylar or readers.....and I don't bag them.

It does not matter what side you place the comic book in the bag. However, I put all of my comics on top of the board inside the bags. Change the bag after it turns yellow. If the board is degraded, change the board as well.

If you keep youd comics in a dry, dark place (preferably their own room), they should not age at all.

I think it's more like every five or six years.

I was around when there was a rush to bag comics in any brand of plastic bag possible. And when I started looking in the mid-80s to get back into comics and shop some back issues @ 35 cents a bagged issue... the plastic had yellowed in the center of virtually every issue.

So, I got rid of almost all of them, but the pile of yellowed bags was disgusting.

Since then, I bought "official" comic bags and have never had a problem.
My current LCBS provides a bag and board for each issue that you order through the pull... and then, you have to be at a certain level... like 15 or more books per month.

So, I never think about another bag or board, unless i pick up a classic silver age book, like an FF #49 that is tattered or has seen better days, and I want to keep it intact the way it is without loosing the cover, or otherwise.

Slabbing is for fools and Obsessive Compulsive speculators.

Put the bag behind the board.

Wouldn't recommend that method myself, scratchie, but whatever lights your candle.

If you purchase 4 mil Mylar bags instead of the regular kind, you never have to replace them. Personally, I don't care for the look or feel at all, but it is far safer for your comics in the long run.

The last kind of bags I remember were Polypropalene.....or something like that. They seemed to stay pretty clear for a long time.

I've only bought one slabbed book....and when I got it....I busted it open and read it. CGC's records are gonna be off

Course it wasn't a book you could pick up just any old place
