One of my friends recently claimed that Hawkwoman/Hawkgirl had once dated a woman. Woah! I cannot find evidence to either refute nor back up this claim. Can anyone assist me?

Unless there's an elseworlds tale I'm not aware of, nothing is springing to mind. The only thing controversial--if I may use that term--I can think of in regards to the character is during the Hawkworld ongoing when Ostrander/Truman had Shayera "sleep over" with a cop named Jonesy after one date, a fact that I've read both writers still receive grief over to this day from fanboys (Note: I'm not one of them).

There was also an instance early on in Hawkman Vol. 3 where the villain Count Viper swapped bodies with Shayera, though he was never shown nor insinuated to have partaken in any "extracurricular" activities during his stint as Hawkwoman.

Finally, late in the same series, Shayera was partnered with a woman when she became a cop in Detroit, but nothing romantic was ever even remotely touched upon in their relationship. Heck, it was hardly a subplot.

I'll think on this further, but again, nothing comes to mind.

Maybe your friend was mistaking Dawnstar for Hawkgirl. They could be referring to the relationship between Dawnstar and a female Thanagarian shown in JLA #9 as part of the Lightning Saga storyline.
