View Full Version : Who Is The Most Sex Mad Character In The DCU?

In this case for the men I would put forward the name of Oliver Queen, this is why I find the recent marriage storyline so unbelievable as they haven't really reformed his character that much & would a strong character like Black Canary really put up with his antics?
For the ladies I would say Helena Bertinelli (Huntress) who seems to have a keen interest in the issue.
Overall though I would say that DC characters are often portrayed in a more chaste way than characters from other publishers.

No and no.
Oliver Queen was far from a sex-crazed character before Winick got his craptastic mitts on him. It'd been a firmly established fact that he was devoted to Dinah completely. After a random fan kissed him she freaked out on him, but that was barely a hurdle for them to get over. Shado raping him was inconsequential to their relationship. It was Dixon paving the way for Connor and giving Ollie a teenage son from a previous relationship that started the downward spiral (or, rather, would have if he hadn't killed him immediately afterwards). Then Winick gets a hold of him and all of a sudden he's !@#$ing anything that moves. Then he did the same thing for Roy and Dick and a few new characters.
And Helena? No. She's had maybe, what... four partners in the past twenty years of continuity? You want a sex-crazed superheroine? Winick's Grace Choi. She's practically got a score sheet for it.
I don't think DC's heroes are chaste, they're just more mature about sex (unless Winick's writing them).

I've enjoyed a number of Judd Winick's stories but I agree that his characters typically have more overt sex drives than other writers.
As far as the most sex crazed character I'd have to say that currently Dick Grayson gets portrayed as the biggest player in the DCU. I mean that moment in Marc Andreyko's Nightwing Annual last year was pretty shocking.

Any "sex" had under Winick pen has been so far out of character is frightening.. after that one kiss under Grell's run Ollie would never EVER have even looked at another woman while with Dinah.. yet Judd had him cheat IN HIS FIRST ARC!!
What Winick has done to Ollie is comparable to what Grayson did to Nightwing..

I have no love for Judd Winick's comics, either. I do feel sorry for the guy, though, considering how many fans hate his work. Be that as it may...
What's the name of the Metal Man (Woman) that fawns over Professor Magnus and men all the time? Is it Platinum? My vote is her for women...
And what about Bruce Wayne, Mr. Terrific (Michael Holt), or Jimmy Olsen?

Gar Logan has been a major horn-dog since the NEW Teen Titans #1. I've yet to see anyone as hot and bothered as him.
For the women, I'd have to go with Light Lass in the Legion, at present. I think she'd done everyone on the team but her brother.

Okay, for the men I have to go with a tie... it's either Nightwing or Arsenal (I REFUSE to call him Red Arrow). Dick's been hooked up with half of the heroines of the DCU, and I think Roy's done the other half. Hell, when they put Roy in the Justice League, the first thought I had was "he's gonna hook up with Dinah."
For women, that award (without doubt) goes to Renee Montoya. Renee hooks up in EVERY issue she's in, just about. I know it's probably not what you were thinking, but hey... who are we to discriminate?

Winick had Ollie sleep with Black Lightning's neice (in an editorial mandated break up of Dina and Ollie, that sucked.). I don't recall him "!@#$ing anything that moves" Ollie's other 'fling' occured in in JLA, not Ga, so that wasn't written by Winick. As for Roy, Devin Grayson started the ball rolling on the whole manho thing. Winick was simply following an estabished character trait with him. Devin Grayson did the same with Dick.
I agree with you about Helena and Grace, its interesting how some fans feel Helena's more 'active' then she really has been portrayed.
Grace would be the caracter that strikes me as being 'sex-mad'. Not just because of the amount of partners she has had, but because a lot of what comes out of her mouth is sexual jokes or innundo.

Ever read the Arsenal mini? Some fans felt Devin Grayson set that 'vibe' going there, Dinah slipping her hand into Roy's back pocket, Roy stripping off and changing his costume in front of her etc...
Devin Grayson really had the whole horn-bag thing rolling with a lot of the characters she wrote (heck, I just reread her novel 'Inheritance', a book I really do love, but the sexual innuendo just hits you in the face almost from the beginning), but the Roy/Dinah stuff I'm very glad she did not have the opertunity to advance with.

Lobo. Seriously, I know Lobo is pretty much my answer for anything, but there have been at least a dozen stories about lobo doing nothing but banging his way around the universe.
Harems and brothels pop up around him like mushrooms. There was an entire miniseries about him murdering his hundreds of illigitimate children. He once blew up a universe just so he could have his way with a woman, who he propmtly sold afterwards. Practaly every female he has ever met had to beat him off. He frickin' LICKED DEATH!
Lobo is the answer here. Period.

No way has Helena had just four partners, the way she has often been written in BoP in recent times has implied that she has had a lot more activity than that. I remember some comment from one issue a couple of years back about her having a one night stand with some male character who she then ended up working with & her saying how she couldn't believe it. Their was a lot of stuff along those lines implying that she is more active than you have put above.
I am quite surprised to hear the stuff about Nightwing, as when I was still reading the title he was always portrayed at that time as being terrible loyal to Barbara Gordon, so I am surprised to hear they have put him off the rails like that.

Shado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shado) was a character from when Mike Grell was writing Green Arrow. Grell's work on Green Arrow was one of those rare occurances where they perfect writer came about at the perfect time and the readers were treated to just an amazing title. (See also: Denny O'Neil and The Question.)
So, of course, all of that continuity was destroyed three issues after Grell left the book.

Winick also implied that Grace had sex with him at some point. And you know the rule. If you sleep with someone, you sleep with everybody that person's ever slept with. Which means Ollie's had sex with the population of China.
I agree with you about Helena and Grace, its interesting how some fans feel Helena's more 'active' then she really has been portrayed.
Yeah, I don't get it, either. Sometimes, the people commenting don't even sound like they've read the books these characters have appeared in. Case in point...
No way has Helena had just four partners, the way she has often been written in BoP in recent times has implied that she has had a lot more activity than that. I remember some comment from one issue a couple of years back about her having a one night stand with some male character who she then ended up working with & her saying how she couldn't believe it. I suppose you mean the poster Mia, who has some crazy hair up her ass about Huntress and Gail writing her. Because, yes, she did have a one night stand with the character, Josh, but besides him, the only partners she's had that we know of are The Question and Nightwing. She may have been with other men that were never talked about (if you want to get into supposition about characters off-panel), but even if she !@#$ed one guy every other week for twenty years, that doesn't make her sex-mad, nor would it have made her more sexually active than how Winick portrayed Grace.
Seriously, Grace is written to have looked at sex like some kind of !@#$ing sport. Notches on the bedpost kinda stuff. Immature, "sex mad" kinda stuff. Helena doesn't view sex so immaturely. And really, neither does Ollie (unless he's actually talking about sex, in which case Winick's !@#$-tastic dialogue would tend to make that appear so), but it's fun to make fun, y'know?
Knockout (when she was alive)
Good ole bisexual women
Nah, even Knockout viewed sex with more maturity than Grace. She wasn't out to screw anyone at anytime, she viewed sex as something to share between people worthy of having sex with each other (and, in her defense, I'd have sex with Deadshot; the guy's just too badass). But for the most part, Knockout was a one-woman gal when she was with Scandal. And of all the writers in comics today, Gail Simone probably writes sex in the most honest and mature way.

I agree (except I've never stripped and changed in front of my siblings), but like I said, many fans felt there was more to it then a brother/siter vibe.
To me a Dinah/Roy relationship is such a no go that I'd dropped comics if DC did it. There has to be at least some male and female characters that can have long standing relationships that don't end up being about sex.
That's another reason why I will always prefere that Donna and Dick stay out of bed together, the brother, sister vibe works well with them.

Because you can be crazy about sex with just one partner. And having slept with multiple partners does not make you a sex crazed person.

re: Sex Mad character
Actually, I don't think there's a lot in the DCU (not compared to Marvel anyway). People have listed Nightwing, but honestly, how much is that because the females love Nightwing and Nightwing actually being portrayed that way?
For example, how many people has Nightwing been shown/implied to have had sex with? By my count, there's only 4. Same thing with Arsenal, I only get 4 as well. Hell, I think BATMAN has had more tail than Dick or Ollie.
Compare this with say the Wasp who trumps this (at least six by my count), Hercules, She Hulk, Black Widow, Tony Stark, Tigra, Wolverine etc (hell, I think even spidey has at least 3).
The difference is that by and large, other than She Hulk, the above characters dont have writers focus on their sexualitiy. They just get laid unlike say Ollie who has been turned into a horndog.

That's what I meant in my OP about DC characters being more chaste, it seems like Marvel are far more obsessed on this aspect of things than DC for some reason. Not sure if it's because they think it makes them look more cool & rebellious.

It's not that the marvel characters are more obsessed with it, the difference is that it isn't seen as a big deal for many of those characters. I mean, take the big brouhaha over WW's sex life or lack of it.
Take Black Widow for example. By my count, she's done the deed with at least 6 people since her introduction (and that doesn't even count her backstory) but nobody really gives a damn.
Even She Hulk who pretty much bangs everything and is definitely flirtatious comes off as more down to earth about her sex life than say recent portrayals of Grace Choi and Ollie.

If you're referring to the girl he was married to in the Nightwing Annual from a few years back (Emily Washburn?), it was pretty explicitly stated/confirmed that they weren't sleeping together. His insistence on "sleeping on the couch" was a bit of a sticking point for the relationship. :P :)

Tarantula doesn't count because a) the only time they "had sex," she raped him, and b) he never slept with her again and simply wandered around in a crappily-written funk. Very !@#$ed up, crappy storyline by Devin.

Er, I don't think he ever slept with Barbara. Was there a scene in BoP where they actually came out and said "yes, they've slept together"?. I know he and Barb carry a torch for each other (still say that's a retcon) and I know the've done the trapeze swing together but actual sex?
Don't think so.
Didn't he get his marriage annulled based on the fact that there had been no sex that actually took place.? (EDIT: Someone beat me to it)
Tarantula raped Nightwing. Definitely doesn't count as sex in my book.
I got Starfire (definitely), Huntress and the model girl from relatively recently (just after Infinite Crisis)...so where's the manwhore angle come from?
Arsenal has slept with Huntress, Grace, Donna Troy, Hawkgirl and of course what's her name (mother of his child)
Batman though I think has more. Vicky Vale, Silver St. Cloud, Talia, Catwoman and I know I'm missing at least 3 more.

Still, that only gives Nightwing 4 consensual relationships. Even with funky comic book time, it still has been at least 8-10 years since Dick Grayson pulled on the tights.

Look, I love the guy. Probably my favorite character ever until recently (Red Arrow my ass.. ), but lets face facts here...
1. Roy and Dinah are about the same age.
2. Roy and Dinah are both single parents (or at least they were at the time of Justice League's beginning)
3. Roy and Dinah both know what it's like to be let down by Ollie who they love.
4. Roy and Dinah both have been known for rushing into situations.
5. Roy and Dinah are NOT related, no matter how much it may seem like they are.
6. Roy was gonna nail SOMEONE on that team within 6 issues. That was a given.
My Money was on Dinah. I figured that Hawkgirl was next in line with Vixen coming in third. Truthfully... I'm still not ruling out him bagging Wonder Woman. She has a thing for "secret agent types" apparently.

Dinah and Roy aren't like brother and sister, more like Mother and son. Dinah was the one that took care of Roy when he was having drug problems.

I count 7 for nightwing just in his own series and starfire
I got his first
Barbara
Starfire
Girl he was married to
Huntress
Tarantula
Model girl
Am I missing anyone?
It was implied that Nightwing had dry sex with Catwoman.
And I'd rank Hal Jordan pretty high. Carol Ferris, Jillian Pearl, Arisia, and although not shown, it was stated that after any big battle, the first thing Hal does to relax is to find a girl to spend the night with.

1: There is a 10 year gap..
2: Kinda.. starting the second arc it was confirmed that Dinah was back together with Ollie..
3: uhhhmmm.. and?
4: Dinah? yes.. Roy? nope.. not with love :P
5: Dinah was like a mother or older sister to Roy.. and they have ALWAYS had that kind of relationship
6: Naturally
The Idea that Roy and Dinah would ever hook up is down right disgusting..
Like Oracle said to Huntress :"He's like a kid brother to her. Maybe almost like a Son. "
That will NEVER change.. and if it ever did.. Fandom would kill Winick.. (even if he didn't write it :P)
