He far too slow for an ongoing series.

I don't think that's Reed in this present...I got a feeling that's a flashback.

Wow, Cheung really stepped it up for this - which is saying a lot, since I've loved his stuff since Scion (the only Crossgen book I could get into haha).
This storyline appears to be the type of card-flipping-over Skrull stuff that Bendis promised us - can't wait!!!

I get the feeling he just woke up in a room full of Skrulls.

Yeah, Sue and Johnny's hairsyles and uniforms are from Byrne's run on FF.

And it looks like Frankie Raye is still alive as Galactus' Herald.
I didn't think it was a present Reed either...i mean if he was to recover so quick he could simply go "ok i worked out in the first issue how the skrulls are undetecable......but i was shot, but now im ok here is the answer!" and would kind of take the sting out of the next 7 issues no?

i think the skrulls have him in a fake hospital, and the ff that we see are skrull imposters. and they are keeping him busy.

I don't think it's a present Reed, but at the same time, I don't think Reed's dead either. Reed Richards is a Stan Lee creation. Marvel wouldn't mess with that. It'd be like killing Spider-Man, Cyclops, the Hulk, Captain Ameri--oh...uh...huh...okay. Never mind.

Reed's not dead, just temporarily really disgusting :) Bendis has said he's gotta huge role in SI even if it never ties to Millar's FF series. Yeah, I could believe that's the Skrulls using Reed to come up with their new SuperSkrull program or something. Wouldn't that be a hoot.. Reed Richards being the guy that helped the Skrulls get all super? :)
Fantastic art. He showed us in Illuminati he could draw some kick ass Skrulls and it was no accident.

Yes, it's some horrible moments for the poor Skrulls who were minding their own business, just to get their planet burnt from under them. I hope they treat the Skrulls with the dignity they did when Greg Pak wrote Planet Hulk.
This actually looks like a good introduction story for SI.

Aw, why'd ya hafta go and do that to him for?
That's pretty much the same as presenting your best worker with an "Employee of the decade" plaque at some huge party, and then announcing to everyone present that you banged his wife.
...Well, not "pretty much" the same, but I'm trying to make a point!

I agree that these previews are clearly a Byrne era FF, but thats even more concerning. Since the New Avengers and Mighty avengers are going to take back the clock to show when people were replaced there is the implication that someone on the FF was replaced back during those days.
I'm betting Willy Lumpkin.

Hmmmm..... There is another possibility. You may remember that during Byrne's run, a Skrull infiltrated the Fantastic Four and replaced Alicia Masters. So either they're going to tell us there were TWO Skrulls running around at the exact time, or they'll just tell us the Story about Lyja's infiltration.

I agree, it looks like a Byrne-era flashback. But at least part of that is because they're showing when Galactus ate the Skrull Throneworld. Maybe the point is just to show that that's when they REALLY started hating Reed Richards, since after all he saved Galactus' life. (Plus Frankie Raye was from Earth, and she's the one who brought Galactus there, so....)
No way I'm buying that one of the FF has been a Skrull since then. I just don't see them going that route.

the big spread with all the skrulls seems to show a Skrull Princess (?) being captured. Im not familiar with alot of Skrull characters/back history. Could it be Hulklings mum, thus him being listed so high on the Most Wanted List and for the connection to the return of Captain Marvel?

Great art. I like Cheung's work, although characters often look younger than they should. I guess that's why his work was so good on Young Avengers. He's good at drawing teenagers. But those big splash pages are surely going to be very impressive when finished and coloured.
If that's supposed to be Reed recovering from Skrull Pym's attack, I don't believe it's the real Reed. The Skrulls will surely have him captive, if he's still alive, and this is another Skrull, planted in his place. More likely, as has been pointed out, it's someone else's flashback to an earlier time when Reed was injured.
I was very shocked to see Galactus, until I realised that'll be a Skrull pov flashback. It'd be very much out of the blue to see him appear in Secret Invasion.

I'm actually looking more forward to the Avengers tie ins then I am for Secret Invasion 2. The Nick Fury story sounds cool in Mighty Avengers.

I'm with you on that one! I'll be devouring every page of the main mini as it moves the narrative forward, but I think the flashback/Skrull-swap tie ins in MA and NA will really create the epic cohesiveness for this story! (And yeah, I bet the two Fury issues by Maleev are going to be amazing!)
Since it's all being written by Bendis, I you almost HAVE to consider the Avenger books as being a part of the main story (even if I'm sure you can read the main story reasonably well without them). Though odds are if you're buying Secret Invasion you're already reading Bendis Avenger books.

Uh, would this been a good time to mention that you can find the entire sordid tale reprinted not only in FF Visionaries vol. 2-3-4, but in a masterful condensed, edited version in "The Trial of Galactus" (1990) trade paperback which is now out of print, but that I just picked up for $7.30 off Amazon.com
I'm sure you could score some off Ebay instead of paying the $40-200 that the OTHER sellers on Amazon are trying to charge!

I'm thinking the page of Reed waking up in a hospital bed may have been his return from the adventure/debacle of Illuminati #1, where our "heroes" did a fine job of not only delivering an ultimatum to the Skrulls, but also pissing them off enough to come back and infitrate...(starting immediately, I would assume... possibly in the person of Tony Stark & Dr. Strange, but certainly taking their DNA from each of the Illuminati and reading their minds to learn the truth about the Earth's heroes. After all, Reed has lied to them in FF#2, and saved their nemiss Galactus to come eat them, and dared to journey to their planet not once, but twice...(FF #37) and again in Illuminati #1 without their permission.)
I wonder if the whole of these pages will be telling the tale from a Skrull's point of view..., and, NO, the LLYra skrull infiltration was ret-conned into Byrne's era...it was NOT a Byrne concept or execution. So there!

I'll just have to make do with the original issues that I bought at the neighborhood convenience store back when they were published, still reasonably well preserved in their plastic bags, lo these many years later.

I gotta confess that I have them all also... but in the massive collection that i assembled, and that my wife packed away into the basement storage, well, it's just going to be too difficult to get them all out again... And since I'm trying to answer my kid's question "Why do the skrulls HATE Reed Richards?" I'd just as soon buy the collected story at a discount again, and then read it all in one sitting, and give it to him so he can enjoy the silver age goodness and cosmic storylines that John Byrne gave us in the late 1980s...
So,, yeah, I'm with you ,brother...

Assuming "the present" is immediately following Secret Invasion #1, none of them are in the Negative Zone right now.
EDIT: Oh wait, I get what you're saying - BECAUSE of the events of SI #1? If so, well, maybe Ben and Johnny are, maybe not. Perhaps they got out or got clear of the blast somehow.

Totally a room full of Skrulls. I wonder who we find out about in this issue (in terms of replacement skrulls). I've been reading the old NA/MA/Illuminati issues and trying to figure out some of the supposed clues, but it doesn't really include any of the revealed skrulls thus far (other than potentially Blackbolt, since we never see how he gets rescued from the skrulls).

Marvel's description: (http://comics.ign.com/articles/852/852785p1.html)
The invasion has started, and no one in the MU is safe, not even the First Family of Comicdom! Aware that some of the Earth's most advanced technology and weaponry is housed in the Baxter Building, the Skrulls have neutralized the building--by transporting it and its inhabitants straight to the Negative Zone!
With one member of the Fantastic Four M.I.A. and another "replaced," it's up to the remaining family members--not to mention Franklin and Val—to get back to our dimension, Skrulls or no Skrulls. But are any of our heroes who they think they are?

Well, yes, but if you read FF#2, it is more to provide them contented lives to live out...Hynotized that they are cows.
These are also the cows that change back in Avengers #92-93...
and then, they also seem to have a role in the wonderful FF Annual #17...
but their status AFTER that remains in doubt.
Has anyone done an accurate count of the original four skrulls....and of the skrulls in the Kree-Skrull war?
The Super-Skrull could be accounted for... and when Goliath goes off with the skrulls at the end of the war...who's word do we have for how he survived? And what he looks like in #99-100? I'd say that now appears suspect.
