Cartoon Network just announced this new series will debut this fall. I know a lot of fans are turned off by the lighter touch this will take and were equally disappointed by the recently concluded The Batman series, but as a parent of two young boys, I'm pretty excited.

Yes, Batman: The Animated Series can't be touched, but I've got the DVDs to enjoy and to be honest, they're too visually dark for my oldest son to follow. And by far his favorite episodes of The Batman were the ones where he teamed up with another DC hero, so this should be right up his alley.

As an added bonus, I like the fact they're using the Silver Age Green Arrow, just to mix things up.

(I realize this isn't the ideal forum for this, but many of us are B&B fans, so I thought you'd be interested.)

Maybe I'm just too set in my ways but, in my mind, a child-oriented Batman should always have a Robin. That was half the appeal of the character when I was a kid.

Its a pretty cool idea. I'm wondering if the show will team Batman up with the Spectre, Sgt. Rock, Phantom Stranger, Deadman, etc.?

Those images look promising to me, and very animatable (with the exception of that rotten Blue Beetle design, based on the "new" print version of Blue Beetle. What, Ditko's simplicity and clarity are now passé?) I dunno if Bruce Timm is involved at all, but it looks like what he combined in BATMAN ADVENTURES (Kirby, Toth and Wood), except he (or someone) has added Dick Sprang to the recipe. I guess THE BATMAN is kinda old now, so Mattel must have requested a "new look" once again. (That's how the "extreme" THE BATMAN came about in the first place; apparently, Mattel thought the Timm version was too "old school".)

Aloha,

Scott!
