Villains tend to keep captured people in glass pods alive and well in their hidden lairs for no apparent reason whatsoever.

That's what I'm assuming here.

Well, it starts with a lovely vacation package to FABULOUS WaiKiki! You and a guest will stay all expenses paid at the grand Waikiki hilton, where you'll enjoy fine food, drinks, dancing and complementary scuba lessons courtesy of Hilton Travel! Then when you get back you'll drive from the airport in... A NEW CAR! A 2008 Nessian Skrullfinder, with all leather interior and XM satilite radio. From there you'll go into.... THE PROBEULATOR! You'll be poked prodded and examined from every angle by the finest skrull scientists. They'll remove your internal organs while you beg for mercy and manage to keep you alive even as they remove your still beating heart! After they have your genetic and power profile on tap they'll go into your brain and steal your memories, then using these mental and genetic profiles give your exact appearance, powers and knowledge to your very own replacement SUPER-SKRULL!!! ALL THIS CAN BE YOURS IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT!!!!

...ahem. I imagine they are in cold-storage somewhere because the skrulls may need periodic updates from there genetic profile (that's how I think they are being copied) or to keep scanning memory engrams. Plus if these skrulls don't "Hate" us they can't very well just execute all there prisoners of war can they?

It will be interesting to see how Bendis answers this question. The replaced characters SHOULD be dead, as there isn't a good reason to keep them alive, but it seems unlikely that Marvel would kill this many characters. So I'm sure they're alive still and the question will be: "Why"?

I think we're all overlooking something that was written recently and is still in Cannon...
The Iron Fist resurrection that occurred within the pages of Namor...
He had been replaced with a duplicate BY THE SUPERSKRULL, while the original was still held within a glass pod in the Savage Land.
While we never really understood just how or why the SuperSkrull was doing all this, there was a clear plot and motive in John Byrnes works...

I'd be very surprised if that story doesn't become a touch point for this story. Especially because the New Avengers keep coming back to the Savage Land again and again...

Question: When they observe the dome cracked, and someone says, that's not how we left it... what is the implication... that the skrulls had done it, or that the "runaway shuttle/trooptransport" had hit it on the way down?

This is what Bendis said about that:

"The cause of the fire will be established in future issues of “New Avengers.” It’s somewhere they’ve been before and in it’s in worse shape than even the last time they were here. In Marvel time, not much time has passed between this issue and the first story arc of “New Avengers.” Also this is one of those foreboding moments. Something bad has happened and now it’s all quiet. Something else has been here."

The Skrulls keep people they've replaced alive because that's how they are able to hide...they need live and fresh celluar material contstantly to keep up the charade.

Taking humans prisoner has been a stupid concept since Silent War. Human torture there prisoners and falsely surrender to blow up cities. The Skrulls would know this and if they are smart execute any human taken.

Yeah, I doubt they're dead--Marvel wouldn't kill off that many characters. The people who got replaced are probably captives somewhere.

You know that random picture you see online of a cat stuffed in a pint glass? That's what the Skrulls do to their captives.

(The cat's face was superimposed over the original image to not give any reveals away.)

The one victim I'm REALLY curious about is Jessica and Lukes baby (assuming it's actually a skrull). If they did replace the baby, what did they do with that babY? I assume they wouldn't kill it.

I wonder if this won't be one of those times they take the baby, artifiially force it to grow, and brainwash it to fight it's parents.

There's reason to keep characters like Jarvis alive. What if they need to interrogate them every once in a while? They don't, apparently, inherit their memories when they replace them. "Human! The Danvers woman just asked SkrullJarvis to mix up her favorite July afternoon alcoholic beverage! Does she normally take that with Tanqueray or Gordon's?"

The skrulls capture the people and put them into ships with doors that can only be opened by Luke Cage. Unfortunately, that tends to start wars.

Scenarios that I hope they reveal.

1.) The Jessica who had a baby is a skrull, so her baby if half skrull so they are both killed off.

2.) That Luke Cage that fathered the child is a skrull and commits suicide fighting to stop the Skrull Invasion, basically he was deep cover that right up until they killed him he believed he was Luke Cage and thus dies trying to save the world and his half skrull child.

3.) Both Jessica and Luke are skrulls but are do deep cover it is impossible to bring them back out of it and they both are sub sequentially killed off while trying to save their fully skrull daughter, who drows up to be one of earth's greatest defenders even though shes a Skrull who only thinks shes half black/white. Only to then die in another epic event and then realizes as shes dying she was a Skrully bastard all along.

They're comic book villains. They wouldn't even consider killing the baby unless they had the parents captured so they could monologue and laugh maniaclly for 20 minutes, giving the parents enough time to escape and save their baby.

This makes me think of Llyra... that wife of John Storm that turned out to be a skrull... didn't she lay an egg? What's up with that? And is that how skrulls are hatched? Or do they give live birth? I think we need to check FF Annual #17 for their plans with skrull milk, since the baby has NOT be breast fed...it was a big point of debate when it's eye's glowed...

Yeah, I remember when they did that in Aquaman, with Black Manta kidnapping Arthur's baby but giving him enough time to save the child. And today, we have the wonderful character of Aqua kid to enj... oh, wait...

They're sacrificed to the Skrull God of Death for his blessing. However, due to a misspoken word during the ritual, instead of sacrificing the prisoners to the Skrull God of Death, they wound up sacrificing them to the Kree God of Pudding. The God of Pudding was very displeased with this, and it may cost them the war on Earth.

Why does ANYTHING have to happen to those who have been imitated?
Unless they are being held in a prizon, as in the Kree-Skrull war, or hinted at in the Captain Marvel mini-series, why would anything have to happen to them?
Once the skrulls get enough information (DNA or otherwise) to imitate someone, they could appear anywhere that the other one wasn't...but boy, wouldn't that be a gas, if Wolverine walked in, and there was Wolverine already there....

oh, wait...that's just happened in New Avengers in the Hidden Savage Land...

Well, the downside to having more than one around is that sooner or later someone will figure out that duplicates are out there. We saw that with the 2 Carols in Ms. Marvel... so it was either really sloppy on the skrulls part, or a very clever way to play Tony against the other heroes.

Dum Dum Dugan was killed in WOLVERINE: ORIGINS, wasn't he? So I think he's definitely dead.

Jarvis and Hank Pym aren't.

At least, I hope Jarvis isn't.

Hank will live if they decide to go way back and retcon the bad stuff that happened with he and Janet as "Oh, that Hank who beat you was a Skrull."
