View Full Version : What Are You Doing This Weekend?

Haven't done this in a while (hell, haven't spent much time here in years) but you know what the hey.
Let's see... my friends and I have never ever been very good at making (and keeping) plans so our weekends tend to be a mishmash of drinking, dancing, flirting, smoking (not me), pranking and eating very bad food. Sometimes done to extremes other times just done to excess.
This weekend is shaping up to be much of the same. Mainly because a friend from across the pond (Neil) will be partaking in the festivities this weekend (and the next 4 as well).
Tentatively the plan begins with out first soccer match in a new league tonight. It's a co-ed rec league and only three of out roster of 15 have ever played soccer in any type of organized fashion. In fact over half of the team have never played at all, so this should be "fun". My dream would be to actually win a match, but if we score more than 3 goals (it's indoors) in any of the games I'd be overjoyed.
After that, I promised a friend I would come by and spin some records with him at his monthly gig. It's fairly low-key and so the alcohol consumption should remain moderate, enabling everyone to make it to work if not on time but reasonably tardy. But with this being Neil's second night in town and the likelihood of pretty ladies around it's a 50/50 chance of turning into a train wreck.
Tomorrow's Friday so when work is done it's balls to the wall. There are a couple of happy hours that have shown some promise recently so we may do some drive-bys and check out the sights. After a quick dinner and change of clothes I fully expect one of my friends to suggest taking our band of merry-seekers across the river to Covington, KY and their little stretch of bars & lounges called Mainstrausse. A couple weeks ago we got dragged into a few of those bars by girl-friend (not girlfriend) and ended up having a fun time. So the temptation to see what can happen when we're on our own is too great. Heck if none of my friends suggest it, I'll offer it up for approval.
Saturday it's my bi-monthly (or is it bi-weekly, I can't remember, all I know it's twice a month) gig. It's one of the busiest spots in the city and good times should be had by all. Unfortunately the night is such an energy leech, my Saturday day usually consists of me resting until 5pm, playing an hour or two of basketball (to build my chi), dinner and then getting ready to start spinning @ 9pm.
Sunday is for basketball, biking, ca-brewing or Wii/PS3 (SMB Brawl/FIFA/COD4/Madden/Star Wars Lego) tournaments which ever the weather permits. Then it's off to sweet sleep around 8-ish so work the next day is bearable.
That's pretty much what I expect to happen this weekend, though you never know when someone may get the urge to go to a riverboat casino, take a trip to Louisville, Columbus or Indy for a night of debauchery or even get thrown through a bank window at 3:30am (I wouldn't suggest doing that, it's not as much fun as it sounds).
So what are your plans for this weekend? Don't be shy, share with the group, it may give someone else a great idea.

I wish I were doing something interesting. But most likely I'll be spending my day with my daughter, which is interesting to me, but not anyone else. Maybe, hopefully, I'll mow the lawn.

I haven't been to Gettysburg since elementary school, but my fifth grade teacher was a total Civil War nut on top of being an awesome teacher, so I remember all of it, and walking around Devil's Den was one of the cooler bits. That whole place just oozes history.

I love PA! Because I live in PA! I'll be in PA as well, but doing nothing special, because I spend every day here. I want to make a cake this weekend, hopefully a two layer banana cake with homemade strawberry frosting, topped with rings of halved strawberries and sliced bananas.
These are the kinds of things I look forward to. Also hopping over to Phillys for a good ol' Philly cheese steak, at that place that was on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Best cheese steak ever!

Gonna be there in a couple of weeks visiting a friend, and from everything she's said about the town we'll be spending most of that weekend outside of it.

Good lord, I haven't cooked anything in over a year and I can't remember the last time there was any baking going on in the kitchen.
Man, this is making me sad... I used to love to bake pies, cakes, cookies and stuff.

HEY I used to live right across the street from the Papa John's a few doors down from Bogart's a couple of years ago. I didn't even know that Sub Galley (or is it Martino's now) was still open.
It's a surprise that UC hasn't bought all that property to build more over-priced student housing.

I've heard about them trying to in the past few years, but really, that'd be a costly block of Jefferson to buy. Plus, a lot of the shops and bars along that street do decent enough business, I don't think they're in danger of goin' anywhere. It's just about the only place in Cincinnati worth doing anything in since everything else worth doing's in Newport or Covington (or Mount Lookout if you feel like dealing with a yuppie crowd).

The Stand's about the only place in Mount Lookout worth going to. That and the sushi place across the street, conveniently open until, like, four in the morning.
In Clifton, well there's all the places on Ludlow and down McMillan as far as restaurants go, but the better bars are in Northside. Better for Cincinnati, at least. Then, sometimes, I like to go to The Pub in Rookwood because they always have some really good beer. That or the Dilly Delly in Mariemont, but that's more of a yuppie restaurant than any place in Mount Lookout. Still, awesome, awesome beer.

Yes, Dancing Wasabi! And no, I haven't seen him do a sake bomb. What's it take to get him to do one? Just good timing?
As for Northside, the only time I go to The Comet is to see whatever band's playing there, but when I wanna do some simple drinking, I hit the Tavern. Lately, though, I've been seeing more shows at Bogart's and getting bombed at the Sub Galley beforehand since Bogart's booze is ridiculously overpriced.
