I just got this:
I'm a real noob when it comes to Comic Books so far but I figured if I start collecting them I should start from the beginning, and it says you can print them.
Is there material I can buy so the paper I print it on is like comic book material? I mean can you buy that stuff lol? Again real noob when it comes to comics and this is my first post, but printing on regular paper just sucks. And no I'm not trying to sells these as fakes :p it would be very obvious with the copyright symbol of 2006 on the bottom that you cannot remove hehe.

Well...I guess you could print them yourself but why don't you just pick up a few Trade Paperback collections instead? You get a whole group of comics re-printed in one book that way and they're not too expensive...especially if you shop around.
It's still gonna cost you a fair bit with the ink and paper etc to print them yourself. Plus there's the hassle factor involved with that.

Well that does make since but is there a collection of IRON MAN comics or Spiderman etc..?? Cause I looked at the Essentials collections and they all include comic 1 but than suddenly they move to issue # 30 or something.
Also what is the paper material that comics use? Just wondering cause I know the aren't printed on paper from the common computer lol.

Consumer ink can cost up to $8000/gallon (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071218-hp-and-staples-accused-of-colluding-on-printer-ink-prices.html). Good luck, and you may have to rob a bank before you're through.

It depends on the comic.
Older comics use newsprint which isn't really used in home printing.
New comics use a wide range of stocks. Some available for consumer printing and some not. They could be as simple as A Hammermill laser stock which is available to the public or a special offset stock which most home printers could not handle.
As others have said if you want the look of a real comic, it would be much cheaper to buy the trade collections than try printing them at home on a consumer home color printing.

I don't understand why it costs 8,000 Dollars per gallon?! I mean ink even if HP sells in bulk, it does not seem like they would make that much money off of that.

No, I think that it's probably issues #1 to #30, inclusive. So, that's 30 issues worth of comics in one Essentials book.
The Essentials series doesn't re-print every comic though, just what Marvel considers the 'essential' issues. So they do skip some issues from time to time but I can't imagine they'd jump all the way from issue #1 straight to issue #30.
One thing to bear in mind about The Essential collections is that they're black and white, not colour.

Yeah I noticed that, I did download X-MEN from a torrent site, WHY? Cause they don't reprint them lol.

The whole point of the CD Rom is that it saves paper & space. Why print it?

Ink is expensive because it costs a lot to make. Pigment has to be unearthed, ground up, mixed with liquid, and injected into a delivery system (print heads/ink cartridges, all of which have computer chips).

exactly.

I don't buy it, Jeff. Sure, ink isn't cheap, but these companies make their money by selling printers at a loss and then making bank on ink refills. Classic loss-leader strategy. And then some companies will use ink cartridge DRM so you can only use their brand.

You're right; for the general population, that's what they do. I work in printing; there's a lot of different kinds of inks that we have to consider for each job. Many of them aren't available to consumers.
