The main site just got a new look and layout.
What do you all think?

Needs more skin options for the forums, too (at least the old "Default" blue one, 'cause I liked it.)
Otherwise, I like the new look.

It's ugly and annoying.
I tend to agree with this. The functionality seems to be impaired, the differentiation between the columns and the news is gone, and the gray-scale background in the columns drains all the life out of it. For that matter, so does the lack of differentiation on the margins; the column just seems to bleed energy out of both sides, while it just sort of trails limply down the middle.
And now the colour of the header tells me: Hey kids! It's Newsarama!
And the smilies themselves are repulsively juvenile -- no, an elderly person's senile and twisted remembrance of juvenile -- before we even get to the animation. If we must have them uglying up the experience, we ought to be able to turn them off -- especially while composing a post.

I really like the main page. It loads quickly, is uncluttered, information-heavy. If I were to offer a criticism at all, those graphics are so tiny to the point where you might as well not have them at all. Perhaps some slightly larger images for the top stories, just to set them apart?
And yeah, count me in with the new smilies suck. Fortunately, adblock takes care of them real nicely.

I can take a lot, but these smilies are hideous.
I mean, yes, back when the old site crashed and we got all new smilies, I felt a bit sad because I was still attached to the old ones. But I got over that as I grew accustomed to the new ones.
This is different, though. These ones are objectively terrible. I mean, look at Mr Roll Eyes:
Have you ever seen someone roll their eyes downward and up? Whoever designed these things was clearly incompetent; unable to even grasp basic body language.

Like the others, I await the return of the blue visuals.
And please, please eliminate those damned smilies. There is absolutely nothing good or positive about them, and I predict their presence is just going to invite greater levels of annoyance and snark.

Other than the use of a blue background in the header and small square picts on the main page, I'm not really seeing that much similar to Newsarama.
The layouts and sections are done much different.
Edit: And Cup of Joe is on MySpace Comic Books now.

Oh, gives a fuck about the smileys? What a weird complaint. If that's the most vocal complaint, I imagine Jonah is pretty damn happy with the response then.
Paul, there is a difference between the columns and the news. Besides a sidebar for the columns, they're highlighted in yellow.
I think the site looks great and would only suggest a few tweaks here and there.

CHANGE BAD!
Seriously though, I'm going to need a couple of days to see if I actually like the new format or not. Right now, I can't #*#@! stand it, but it may grow on me over time. It does seem to strange that everything was so neat and organized, and now it feels very scattered into various blobs on the screen. It took me a bit to figure out where the CSBG and Columns are, and they didn't even really move!
And where are the new single issue reviews coming from? Were they always on CBR and I didn't know it, or did Jonah hand pick a few people to start doing them? Either way, can we finally ditch "the Buy Pile" now?

The reviews section is new.
This is a major development for the site, and we've staffed Reviews with four major writers, many of whom you are already familiar with from their excellent books and blogs: Timothy Callahan, Kevin Church, James Hunt and Greg McElhatton, with longtime CBR reviewer Augie De Blieck, Jr. managing the team. They're all voracious comics readers and we think you're going to look forward to what they have to say.

Yeah, dump the grayscale and change the background to white. The big blue header is taking up too much space. There should be more content visible without having to scroll down. And Reviews is hogging too much space and making Columns look too small. I doubt more people are interested in what some comic reader thinks about All-Star Superman than they would be in LITG.

Ha ha....my point exactly. This one looks like he's constipated  . Thats perhaps the best new smiley.
Part of me feels that CBR since I joined had its "look". That you knew you were on Comic Book Resources and the news and columns were seperated very well. Maybe I had gotten used to it all. How the site looked and feeled when I clicked the news or columns.
I'm not saying I'm gonna stomp my feet and be all angry over it. I've seen sites change their main pages...."Inside Pulse" & 411mania come to mind. Inside Pulse had a very good site and their change was so bad it was confusing for a while to navigate the entire site and the many things it covered from Comics Nexus to Sports .
In the end good luck with the change. I will miss the old CBR though...the one I remember clickin all these years...(I'd use a happy smiley but man they suck...)

But yeah, the smiley things suck more than your standard smiley things. Other than that, I'm not seeing any major cosmetic changes to the forums.
As far as the main page goes, it's a nice update. I think the blue in the header is too close to the default hyperlink blue, making it look a tincture generic. It would be nice if mousing over the preview block of an article would shift the background color or something to indicate that it's in focus. Possibly even make the whole block clickable instead of just the title.

Exactly. I would have thought the biggest draw to CBR is the columns. Especially when the columnists have been Giffen, Simone, Ellis, Grant, Young, Larsen, etc. Not to diss the homegrown columnists, but star names WITH SOMETHING TO SAY are kind of a big deal.

Aside from that, I'd have to get used to the frontpage to know if I like it or not. Also, I dunno if it's you or me, but the links to all the CBR stuff, columns, forum etc, in the top bar, worked the first time I went to the website, but not the second, and refreshing didn't seem to help.

You know, I don't understand the need to diss someone with whom you may have a disagreement with, or who has a different posting style than you.
There are other ways to make yourself feel better, you know.
Not that everyone who opposes the usage of certain features of this forum is doing so, but a few are.
And obviously, I disagree with what they have said.
As for the actual content of the posts, it is possible to expatiate how you feel, and to not let the smilies devalue the substance in your posts. (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showpost.php?p=6356726&postcount=165)

http://www.comicbookresources.com/reviews
The site is really confusing now. It took me a bit to find where the columns were, and I honestly would NEVER have noticed them if I hadn't been specifically looking for them. Honestly, it's like the columns have been shoved off into the middle of nowhere. Plus it's kind of difficult to scan the news area now.
I don't know, the whole design for the site isn't very functional. I'll stick around for Steven Grant, but I probably won't bother with anything else.
