In todays music news Velvet Revolver have fired Scott Weiland after his personal problems and fighting within the band. Weiland stated last week in Glasgow that fans were watching the last VR tour ever ! This led to an online war of words with Matt Sorum .
The ARTICLE:
Who didn't see this one coming?
Rock supergroup Velvet Revolver has officially parted ways with frontman Scott Weiland following weeks of internal fighting between band members.
Guitarist Slash, drummer Matt Sorum, bassist Duff McKagan, and guitarist Dave Kushner sent out a press release with the news of Weiland's departure.
"This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," said Slash in the press release. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."
This all started about two weeks ago at a live concert in Glasgow when Weiland told the live crowd that fans were watching the "final tour" by the band. This led to fighting between Weiland and Sorum online, each trading blows with the other.
In a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, Slash said about the internal fighting, "Obviously I'm very aware of everything that's going on. The only thing I can add to that is, in contrast to what Scott says, there will be a Velvet Revolver after this tour." When asked if Weiland would continue as the singer, Slash added with a chuckle, "I have no comment on that."

Now heres some candidates to replace Weiland in VR.
1. Sammy Hagar: Hagar and Slash have done some things and worked on a short lived project in 2001/2002 . They did a song for the Spiderman film called "Vertigo" which was never included on the soundtrack. Reports were that Hagar called the song a very Led Zepplin type tune.
Hagar has the front man experince with Van Halen but is past 60 and has really became more of a "when he wants to" type singer. He'd rather spend time in his bar in Cabo Wabo so its unlikely he'd wanna do the grind a Velvet Revolver would do.
2. Chris Cornell: Just came out of a super rock group with Audioslave. Cornell has great vocals and is someone who likely would like we saw with the former RATM members...JELL. Of course Cornell is the type who pushes things and with Duff McKagen being very vocal himself its unknown how they would act. Cornell's last band broke up after 3 albums and that was a lot of personalities involved there.
3. Josh Todd : Was nearly the VR singer. He and one of his Buckcherry guys has a writers credit on one of the songs from the 1st VR album. Todd however has came out pubicly and trashed McKagen saying that his ego and all drove him from the band.
Its clear that Slash has some huge questions ahead. Its gonna be interesting to see who they get for VR. Part of me wants Josh Todd since he fuckin sounds like Axl and shit...imagine Todd singing "Welcome to the Jungle" with the ex-G'n'R band ?

Scott Weiland isn't one to take his "firing" laying down....
The war of words continues even after Weiland's departure...
Former Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has released a statement to MTV News regarding his departure.
Weiland was kicked out of the band yesterday by the other four members of Velvet Revolver.
"After reading the comment by Duff, Matt, Dave and the illustrious 'Guitar Hero,' Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash, I find it humorous that the so-called four 'founding members' of Velvet Revolver, better known to themselves as 'the Project' before I officially named the band, would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow," Weiland said.
"In response to Slash's comment regarding my commitment [to the band], I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun ... at times. But let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member — no need to mention his name).
"Personally speaking, I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back," Weiland continued. "This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow bandmates in (Stone Temple Pilots) and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang."
At the end of the press release, Weiland did wish his former bandmates the best of luck, saying, "Good hunting, lads — I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice."

I wonder what happens when Weiland's group of friends he's known all his life gets tired of his going to rehab again ? Because that sadly killed STP the 1st time. His many trips in and out of rehab.
And yeah Sebastian Bach would be perfect for the band and just did a kick ass solo album.

Whats weird is....with all this infighting and all the pointed heated jabs at Slash...it sorta fuels that juicy bit of news that Axl Rose told about when Slash came to his home in 2005. That the group was fighting and that Weiland wasn't on good terms with anyone.
Its seems weird that now its 2 guys (3 counting Josh Todd ...) who have no kind words for Slash and used to play with them.

STP had a few songs....that was ok. I love "Interstate Love Song" , "Sex Type Thing" , "Vasoline" ,"Plush" and "Sour Girl". But as Matt Sorum said ...where was this demand to see them reunite again ? I mean ...its like Soundgarden in a sense...is there a demand for Cornell to reunite and bring back Soundgarden since the 90's alternative music is back in style ?
And being honest...I loved a lot of those bands from the 1990's like the Smashing Pumpkins , Alice in Chains , Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden. So its not that I don't like them returning...its just I thought they had really done their best work in a period of that time .

I was in one my night shift deliriums when I wrote that but whatever I'll explain it.
They were both bands while being pretty derivative of more popular or well respected bands of their period had a some good songs to their credit.
Plus I get the same feeling I hear "Interstate Love Song" when I hear "Feel like Making Love." It's dumb unpretentious fun rock. Hey you may prefer one over the other but they share the same purpose. Classic Rock radio can't play Led Zeppelin all the time and Modern Rock can't play Pearl Jam all the time.

Scott Weiland is an idiot who seems to wanrt to ignore that many of his grunge peers are dead and the only successful survivors of the 80s and 90s are pop stars or bands that cleaned up their acts. Weiland is a grown man with children who has a rap sheet including domestic abuse, multiple DUIs and drug possession charges, many of which have been racked up in just the last few years. I think STP will burn out soon for the same reasons VR have fired him. The best thing that can happen for him and his family is to leave the industry that's allowed him to continue to fuck up his life.

Toouch egos. Its the same reason Audioslave broke up. Anytime you merge successful rock stars who have done huge and trying to come togethor you'll see this I suppose. I sorta knew VR was on borrowed time....Weiland pretty much derailed STP with his problems so we all knew it would happen here.

Another fun possible pick for Velvet Revolver would be Chris Daughtry. He's coming off a big successful debut album , jammed with Slash on a track there and has been known to sing Guns n Roses tunes in concerts. I saw a clip on Myspace where he sang "Paradise City" at a concert last December.
Of course the odds that would happen is remote. Daughtry has his own band backing him and has pretty much started his career off with a bang. I couldn't see him doing Velvet Revolver. As fun as a Daughtry/Slash jam to "Used to Love Her" sounds..
Chris Daughtry's doing too well on his own. And I don't think Sebastian Bach would risk his career as Axl's friend to go front VR. I think their new lead singer (once they get one) will be someone else.

First of all, "Interstate Love Song" is a bit more pretentious than "Feel Like Making Love," seeing as how the former incorporates country and jazz guitar stylings and a tone of regret, as opposed to the, yeah, dumb unpretentious fun rock of the latter with the lyrical implication of pleasure first, thinking second. Second, I'm still wondering how songs like "Pretty Penny," "I Got You," and "Vasoline" are the property of Pearl Jam. Finally, personally I don't enjoy Bad Company at all, and I don't enjoy STP for reasons that would ever, ever lead me to bands like Bad Company.

Hmm. That's a tough one to gauge. Kravitz has built a fairly solid career as a solo artist for almost 20 years. If he ever were to front a band, I would think he'd be at the helm in all aspects.
I think VR needs to put out an album with rotating vocalists, just for the sake of experimentation. Or maybe just do a few collaborative projects without the songs being tied to a whole album. I think trying to find a new permanent lead singer right now is jumping the gun a bit. And really, even if Kravitz did join the band, how long do you really think that'll last?
