The GCD lists it as Kirby/Everett. I'm not usually one to criticize artwork, but that's not very good at all, is it? He's got like 6 sets of man boobs. And that's 6 sets too many if you ask me.

No, not exactly. It's Bill Everett art based on a Jack Kirby layout (i.e., sketch). And I agree, it's not one of either artist's better efforts.

I fine-tune the credits!

That was one of the startling innovations introduced by Barry Smith in Conan the Barbarian in 1970, as far as I know. I ought to check Smith's Ka-Zar stories from Astonishing Tales in 1969 to see if he started drawing nipples before Conan.

I think this pre-dates Conan.

Not Kirby.
And I do not know of any covers where Jack did layouts for another artist. Inside stories, yes...but not covers. He certainly didn't lay out this one. I'd say it's Everett all by himself.

Thank you Mark.
I had suspected as much.
Thanks for weighing in!

Y'know, the title of this thread scans really well to the tune of the Stevie Wonder chestnut "If You Really Love Me" ...

Yeah. Definitely not Kirby-boobs. I know that man's breasts anywhere.

Does anyone know the meaning of the Vietnam blurb on this cover?

No, I don't, but I'm interested as well. Howling Commandos reunion in the 'Nam? Or Time Travel?
I'm guessing the former, since Nick's got his patch...

It was a 1967 reunion, though I haven't read the ish in ages & remember no details. Nor do I have Cei-U!'s invaluable Howlers index on hand ... Have you gotten to the annuals, Kurt?

Talk about confusing,
At first, I thought you were still discussing the Tales to Astonished HULK cover!
Then, I thought it might have been Sgt. Fury #100, which is a trip and a half in itself!

The GCD cover credits on TTA #85 have been changed to Bill Everett on both pencils and inks. In the Notes field, the indexer credits Mark Evanier as the source, with a link to this very thread (because I emailed them the link). Check it out:

Thanks for helping posterity, Rob.
As a kid, buying that issue used in my initial lot of Kirby comics at a school white elephant sale, the huge nipple-less Hulk did seem pretty odd to me. But as a kid of 10, I didn't know what nipples were really use for, yet....

Barack posts on GCD? Now I'm definitely voting for him.
