Don't know how he did it; the most he remembers is that he was playing in his room and hit his foot on something or came down wrong on it and twisted. His cousin was over here (yesterday) and they were romping like mad; sometime in the early evening he did it.
He wasn't in so much pain that he couldn't sleep, though he didn't want to walk on it---so for last night we let it be, to see if it was a temp ouchie or something worse. Today, when it still hurt, and he still didn't want to walk on it and we noted it was starting to swell, we took him into an urgent care kids' hospital outreach center. They x-rayed (three positions) and found no breaks or fractures, so it's a soft tissue damage. As they said, we're putting him on Motrin (OTC kids dosage) for pain and swelling, and will be giving him warm soaks. I'm keeping him out of school tomorrow to give him a full day of keeping his foot up, then sending him back (with a P.E. excuse for the week, from the doctor). He's not really in pain with it, unless he tries to move the foot or bumps it.
Initially it was centered on some middle toes and the ball of his foot, but now he doesn't want to move the ankle much either, and he's got some yellowish bruising and a touch of swelling on that ankle, as well as the swelling in the rest of his foot.
Anyway, he should heal up fairly quickly, and he's not in constant pain, so all that's good; well that, and that he did NOT break or fracture any bones.

((((((((((((((((Solaris)))))))))))))))))
Trips to the ER with your kid are scary, no matter what. Good that it should heal quickly.
*And much better than my reaction when my daughter fell of her bike and said her arm hurt and I said "walk it out! you'll be okay."
Yes, it was broken, just above the elbow. She had a cast for six weeks. In my defense, after seeing how hurt she acted, I pushed the bike home, sat her down with ice, and determined with about fifteen minutes that she needed the ER. But still...

I'm glad that he didn't break anything and that he's not in a lot of pain, but I hope Finn heals up soon!
(((HUGS))) to Sol' and Finn.

Solaris, he's in my prayers.
May the Good lord answer them, and may he be healed.
I pray that he makes a swift recovery, and is healed soon. :)

Thanks guys! He's ensconced on the sofa at the moment, playing the crap out of his Nintendo DS (and using Wolverine to kick various ass), so he's not really in pain. :D

Been there before with both girls and Finn, and yeah, ER can be scary.
The first aid classes I've had really help. I know what things to look for. In his case, we were checking to see where touching/pressure hurt, how and how much he could move his toes, etc. and if it hurt. On the several occasions he's banged his head, one of the first things we do is flashlight pupil reaction checks, and we repeat them if it was a decent bump.
This is the first time he's actually hurt himself with something beyond the momentary ouchie. He and we are doing well with it; main reasons I posted was 1. I may not be on a lot, till he gets better, and 2. it lets Rin read it (I don't know if she's in bed, so this way she can read it later---it's not urgent enough for a phone call to her). His big sis tends to keep a close eye on him, even from afar. ;) :D
Both Rin and Meg banged themselves up a bit when they were little, but the worst accident either of them had was Rin's bike accident when she was about 13-14. That one was pretty nasty, poor thing.

ER trips are scary. I accidentally dislocated Cassie's arm last week and I was so scared bringing her in. She didn't really scream or anything, she just whimpered which made me think it wasn't dislocated at first.
Well either way I hope he is careful on it and he continues to have fun with his DS.

:p It's the *reason you're there* that's scary, silly. Well, for most of us.

Having had several problems with my feet and legs,i can suggest when he is laying down to keept he foot ELEVATED,as this will help the circulation to the foot and relieve pain. A couple pillows piled up under the leg/foot should do it. It really works.

Also you might want to try Epson Salts in the water to help as well.

Hey Chris. I know you've had a time of it lately. :) I'm glad you learned it WASN'T the "worst case scenario". Sorry about the little darling's pain, but I'm also grateful he's recuperating and even enjoying a little "sabbatical". I wish him a speedy recovery, and hugs to you, dear! :)

Good to hear that he's not too badly injured Chris.
ER's can be scary, especially in the middle of the night, but after spending 12 weeks in hospital with Charlie I can attest that nothing is scarier than a neo-natal unit when alarms start going off.
Still, as I've been made abundantly clear to me in the last few months, kids have quite a remarkable healing ability that'd put Wolverine to shame, so I'm sure he'll be up and about in no time.
