About a half hour ago, I bought my oldest son Jackson his very first comic book. This coming roughly 35 years after my dad bought me my first comic book. Circle of life and all that jazz.

Cool! How old is Jackson?

I'm kidless, as it happens, but for some reason of late some of my very favorite current comics have been slanted toward the younger set -- Amelia Rules, Tiny Titans, PS238, Marvel Adventures: The Avengers (I'm sure I'd like the FF & Spider-Man titles, too, but in all honesty I blanch at the idea of expanding my pull list even further ...) & X-Men: First Class.

He's 4 and a half. He knows all the characters from the cartoons and he has some superhero toys, plus he pretends to be Aquaman when he takes a bath. In fact, this was a recent bath time conversation between us:

Him: Who else can I be in the water?

Me: Sub Mariner?

Him: Okay. Is he a good guy or a bad guy?

Me: Well... it's complicated.

I would try out some of the other titles you mentioned, but as you've brought up before - these things ain't cheap. So for now, we'll start slow.
