Thought I'd post some drawings and pages I'm working on. I'm worried about the pacing. I want it to read a bit slow, almost like "No Country For Old Men"; imagining a long quiet shot of a desert...

Could you repost those in this thread? They are coming through on my end as tiny-2.5"X 1" or thereabouts. It is hard to see.

Man, its been like 2 years since I started this thread. I'm still new to the whole forums thing, but I'm really interested in participating in an online community like CBR. Here goes.
First off, here's a page from a story I completed at the end of '09 called Strongman: Rebirth. Its a bit of a Greek tragedy as it stands, but there is a larger story to be told here that has a happy ending. This is essentially act 1 of 3.
It deals with a very Golden Age inspired superhero that is literally the archetype of the superhero in that he is a circus strongman. I very much wanted to do an old fashioned, american under dog story here with a subtle commentary on my views on love. I tried to make the story work on a surface level without it being necessary to read into it, though there is depth to be mined if one were to look.

If you want to see the whole story you can go here (http://thechrishunt.com/?page_id=86). And as a head's up, I totally welcome constructive criticism as long as it is truly constructive, and not just a conflict of taste or opinion, so by all means lemme know what you think.

I just finished the inks on this story a couple of days ago. I did this as a submission for Paul Pope's ACA residency. Its based on an account written by Peter Capstick Hathaway in Death In The Long Grass. Hathaway was a professional hunter in east Africa for a couple of decades and made a career as a writer recounting many a harrowing tail of his.
The style of the story (visually) is heavily based on Hugo Pratt's Corto Maltese material and the main character is modeled after a young Ernest Hemingway. Essentially, this story served as a way to channel many a love of mine into one project.

I plan on coloring it in the near future, but if you'd like to give it a read, check it out here (http://thechrishunt.com/?page_id=298).

Good call, that did the trick and thanks for the kind words man. I'm in the middle of writing another story with this hunter character, probably just be putting some sketches up for a time before I get finished pages up again.

This is a drawing I did last night based off of a watercolor print done by Milton Caniff. The character is Pat Ryan from the old strip Terry and The Pirates. Just a pencil sketch I drew in my moleskin that I scanned in and colored in photoshop. Start to finish it was about 2 hours.

Well thank you. When I'm working on a story I like to nail at least one image of the characters in a static pose that gives an indicator of their movement/personality in my mind. A little bit above and beyond just a basic ref sheet.

The above story was done as apart of an application for a residency with Paul Pope later this year. The plan is to color it shortly, as well as translate it into Spanish and French (playing to my strengths there, I feel like my style is much more European than American both visually and in terms of material) There are also a couple little things to fix here and there but over all I'm very pleased with this.

So this last one I finished up at the end of last year. There are a number of things I'd do differently half a year later, but I learned the most working on this one than anything else I've done. It was a bit of a turning point in a lot of ways for me. I figured out how I wanted to draw action, that I need to use dot patterns less, etc. I took a large portion of this with me to SDCC and got a lot of great advice which I took to heart and worked on correcting.
As a note to other artists, despite what you might think, SDCC is hands down the WORST place to try and get critiques. I happened to luck out through some friends a couple of times and get the ear of some great artists and editors but do not expect that, and if you do get the chance, shut up and listen when they critique you. I mean, don't say SHIT. Just listen.

Last up for today, From Out Of The Pit
This was a story I penciled and wrote for a blog that folded promptly after my friend (the inker) and I finished. The theme they were working with was horror, something I'm not very fond of. I modeled the whole thing off of the old Eerie's and Tales From the Crypt. It looks pretty good but I generally view this as a piece of shit and everything I don't enjoy in comics.

Thank you, I was very pleased with it. I recently remembered how much I loved Fall as a child growing up in Ohio. There was something about it, some sort of feeling I still can't put my finger on. Maybe magical with a bit of a spooky, sinister edge? Regardless, I thought it would make an interesting juxtaposition to a gigantic bipedal robot and his human ward.

Kickin around ideas for covers. I'm thinking it would be kind of interesting to tie each of my stories together using the design of the covers. I like the idea that each of my stories would appear to be apart of a collection, like Criterion Movies or Penguin Classic Books.

So I'm actually starting to do pages now around the 01-AD robot story. This is the last page of a preview that I'm doing for my self published anthology VOLUME ONE (http://kck.st/d39ZVN). The story has been simmering in my mind for some time now, and overall I can tell you the story is basically Mobile Suit Gundam meets The Warriors meets The Battle of Britain.
