I was doing a pre-order on Amazon for that AvP: Requiem 2-disc DVD coming out next month, and it got me thinking - I've been planning on actually reading the AvP comics forever now, but have never gotten around to it. I'd like to pick up a couple of TPBs to get me started, but wanted to know if anyone had any specific recommendations?

AvP: Civilized Beasts should be out soon. Thats a brand new one.
There are two omnibuses of early Dark Horse AvP stuff. Quality wise, I dunno about them, though. The only AvP story I've read is the first one and I wouldn't rate it anything more than an "OK."
Volume 1 (http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=14-414)
Volume 2 (http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=14-815)

The print quality on the omnibuses are great and you get around 450 pages for $25 so its a good value. However, keep in mind that the first AvP omnibus does start off with stories from the late 80s to mid 90s so if you don't like comics from that era then it might not be for you.

Thanks for the links! I might have to check out those Omnibuses - they seem like exactly what I'm looking for. What is "Civilized Beasts" about?
Out of curiousity, how do the comics compare to the movies? I liked the first one, but I really liked AvP:R, as it seemed to actually be a bit more about Aliens vs. Predators, with humans just kinda getting in the way, which is more what I expected from the series.
Plus it was definitely far more gory, and I'm a sucker for horror flicks, too. :D
The new world was an unspoiled frontier perfect for colonization, a virtual paradise of boundless beauty and limitless resources, untouched by human hands . . . but not untouched, as the unsuspecting colonists soon discovered. Now marooned on a planet infested with the deadliest Alien species ever encountered, the colonists learn firsthand the Law of the Jungle: adapt or become extinct. And a little helping hand couldn't hurt, inexplicably provided by the selfsame Predators who destroyed the colonists' ship and made them prisoners in paradise. Are these extraterrestrial hunters actually showing sympathy for the humans' plight, or do they have something even more monstrous in mind?
* Following the events of 2004's Thrill of the Hunt, Alien vs. Predator 2: Civilized Beasts again teams fan-favorite writer Mike Kennedy (Lone Wolf 2100) and artist Roger Robinson (Gotham Nights) in an action-packed battle royale to determine the heavyweight championship of the galaxy!

Yep, that's it. If you've read Thrill of the Hunt, I think Civilized Beasts is better. I actually colored CB (so I've seen the script and art) though I did most of it 2 years ago and then the project got shelved until Nov 2007. I guess Dark Horse decided to finally finish it because of the movie. I'm glad because, like I said, I think its one of the better AvP stories. Its around 90 pages of story, full color, and only $6.95.
