Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s recently completed Y: The Last Man will be collected as a series of hard covers, with each hardcover edition collecting the material from two of the soft covers.

I'm definitely picking these up, I don't own every issue.

I just read that, myself. I can't wait! Just wish they'd given a date, though.

Here's hoping we get hardcover Transmet next.

Why not just three Absolutes?

Somebody's self-binding job. I think there's about 4 or 3 trades in each binding.
I like the snazzy cover.

Two TPBs to each HC. Like what they did with Daredevil. Nice.

Cool, gives me an excuse to not buy all the trades at once :o

They are so going to charge 50 bucks per hardcover. And I am so going to pay them. *Sigh* Comics make me not have money.

I can't wait for these - DC is definitely doing right by me between this and the Starman hardcovers this year.

Why not just three Absolutes?

That will never work. It's too logical, what the devil is wrong with you?!

I feel like I might be the only person in the world not crazy about the Absolute collections. I think they make great coffee table books and display pieces but I like my books nightstand friendly. The Y (and upcoming Starman) hardcovers fit that bill much better than a ginormous Absolute would, making it far more valuable to me and for half the price.

So it's a nice five volume set, I wonder what the extras will be like. Though I think 3 absolutes would be better (considering the goal is for a triology of films).

Maybe it's just me but I prefer paperback trade to hardcovers...

I think they will actually be priced $29.99, same as the upcoming Ex Machina hardcover. That is in line with Marvel's pricing on their deluxe hardcovers.

I'm glad I held off on buying Y trades. I read the series monthly as it came out, but never felt the need to pick up the trades as they were released (unlike Fables). I'll definitely pick up the first two years in hardcover and probably rest of the series, although I have to confess I lost a lot of interest the longer the series ran (again, unlike Fables, which I find gets better and more interesting with each new story arc). The final issue was pretty much a perfect finish for the series, in my opinion, though.

Me too. I have limited space on my bookshelves and I could do without cardboard taking up half of that space.

Not only that, but I find hardcovers to be clumsy and less forgiving when you are reading them. They are nice if you just want them to sit on your bookshelf and look spiffy and high class, but if you want to read them I prefer soft cover all the way.

Still, its tempting to hold off on the Y trades until these hit.

I just started out collecting these trades. I've never read Y:The Last Man until I bought the first trade. Waiting on the 10th trade to come out before I go out and buy #8 and #9. I'm hooked though...if these HC look great I may postpone my buying the last 3 trades and just get these. I'd love to display them on a bookshelf.

I agree that the trades are easier to hold and flip through, but there's something so nice about having a huge chunk of the story in my hands. If I could, I'd get Y in a giant single-edition omnibus. That probably makes me some sort of big book freak, but I likes what I likes.

The hardcover pages also have an amazing glossy finish that I've found always helps make the art pop. Some trades (I'm thinking specifically of the Ellis Authority run) look completely washed out on regular paper. In the deluxe editions, everything looks so much more vibrant.

If I had known, I would have not got all the TPBs. Shoot . . .

I'd prefer an omnibus.

I never managed to pick up the individual trades, so this is like a godsend to me. It looks as though they won't be oversized and that's all that would keep me away from them.

Absolute Editions are gorgeous to flip through, but if I can't bring 'em comfortably to the can (or to bed, to be less crass) the I don't want 'em.

Hmmm, I haven't seen these around at my local book store. I am strongly considering getting these though. I've managed to read the entire series thru individual issues I picked up and random trades I've gotten or read at my public library. Maybe it's time to finally get a complete and cohesive collection, even despite the obvious duplications.

Yes. Paperbacks are reminiscent of comics' pulp roots. Hardcover comics are just a little too precious and pretentious.

Count me as a lover of HCs. No pretentiousness in sight.

It looks as though they won't be oversized and that's all that would keep me away from them.

I also thought that they were not going to be oversized, coz 2-3 weeks ago I saw on Amazon that they listed it as regular size.
Then Ex-machina Deluxe came out and it IS oversized! And now Amazon corrected their mistake, the size of "JLA deluxe vol.1" and "Y the last man Deluxe vol.1" is not specified anymore, but there's a great chance that they will be oversize as they are all in DC's "Deluxe" line.

It's really cool that DC finally decided to do oversized editions like those at Marvel.
Let's hope the paper they print it on is as good and as thick as the one Marvel uses for their hcs.
Anyone here saw an actual copy of "Ex-machina Deluxe vol.1" ? How's the paper stock on this one ?
