Once in a while I like to play First Person Shooters (FPS) but me and my friends feel that there is too many military first person shooters and not enough of other games. Like Racing, RPG, Strategy, Action, Puzzle games. Does anyone think that there is way to many First person shooters?

I do tend to agree that the market is oversaturated with FPS, but apparently they keep selling, so they keep getting made.

I'd also say that when FPS games are good, they're really fun to play. I don't normally prefer FPS games, but I've found a select few that I greatly enjoy: Rainbow Six Vegas, Call of Duty series (3 & 4 anyway) and Bioshock (Though that's almost another animal altogether) spring to mind. Tried Halo 3 and couldn't get into it, though.

Out of all the ones I've played, I've only been impressed with maybe five: Doom, Half-Life, Bioshock, Portal, and Metroid Prime. I've always thought there's too many of them, and too many boring, repetitive ones at that.

No, FPS games aren't anywhere close to flooding the market. It's just that most of the good, high-profile games happen to a FPS so that's where a lot of the attention and hype is going lately.

I would really like to see a software developer create a crazy Strat vid on any of these new consoles. Have they?

Huh?

FPS games translate really well to online play. Since a good portion of the appeal of the next-gen systems is online play, that seems like the main reason that most of the popular games are FPS.

I used to hate FPS games until I started playing Team Fortress back in 2000. Now they constitute 75% or more of my gaming time, not that I'm necessarily proud of that.

One of the reasons Team Fortress 2 is so popular is because it abandons the overdone "camo and fatigue" shooters we've had for the past 10 years. While these C&F FPSs can certainly be fun and well-made (Call of Duty), most of them turn to cliches and overdone gameplay.

Perfect Dark is one of my all-time favorites. So is Metroid Prime, although I tend to think of it as more of an adventure game.

There seems to be alot. Sucks for me. I only love one Shooter and it's a 3rd person shooter. Man...I cannot wait until November.

Not really. Actually, I'd say there are relatively few FPS games compared to the offering of all those other genres.

First Person Shooters are just flooding the market trying to take the hype away from Duke Nukem Forever :p

Out of all the triple A titles that come out in any given year, FPS's take up a good portion of those. If you're a PC gamer, they're damn near the only game in town for the highest quality. There's a lot more variety in consoles though.

2007 was a bit different though. There were a TON of high quality FPS which came out that year. Bioshock, Orange Box (3 games in itself!), Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Unreal Tournament, and a bunch of other games I'm likely forgetting.

Sometimes it really does seem like there's way too much going on with FPS, but I think that's just because a lot of them get a lot more of the press.
