Year One came first obviously. The Mad Monk and the Monster Men take place during one of the gaps in Year One. The Man Who Laughs takes off from the last page in Year One. The Long Halloween then follows that, followed by Dark Victory. When in Rome occurs during DV. Not sure about Haunted Knight.

Thanks. Does anyone know about Haunted Knight?

Also when does the Tales of the Batman HC take place?

Haunted Knight is a collection of three halloween specials done by Loeb and Sale before (they were all prior, right?) TLH and DV. Obviously Robin isn't present in the stories, so they'd be placed before DV.

Honestly, with all the retcons and untold stories, placing anyone's stories in a specific chronological order is next to impossible.

In other words, I got nothing. Especially with Haunted Knight, which, I think, takes place on three different Halloweens. (I haven't read them since they were new.)

Usually yes, but all of the stories he's asking about are pretty clear as to where they fit. All of this stuff was written post Y1, and each author here specifically set out to expand upon that. Also, most of this stuff is far, far better than the "official canon" early years tales of Batman anyways.

I guess when you read them out of order, years apart, the chronology kind of gets lost in the shuffle.

That is correct. There's no way that was all one night. Not even in a Batman comic.

Also when does the Tales of the Batman HC take place?

Tales of the Batman: Tim Sale is a collection of several separate and unrelated story arcs whose only connection to each other is that they are all illustrated by Tim Sale. They take place during several different eras of Batman's career. For example, "Blades" takes place in the early years, while "Misfits" takes place in the later years while Tim Drake is Robin.

Thanks. I guess HK takes place during Y1, Y2, and LH.

Here's where it gets complicated.

Year One, TLH, and DV all take a years worth of time in their stories.

TLH... is year two. It has to be. It's set post Year One (the book) and takes place over a year. It's followed by DV, again, another year of time, ending with Robin. Robin comes along in Year Three (both the book, and the year.).

All possible Halloween's in Loeb and Sale's stories are clearly spoken for. There isn't anywhere in that continuity that you could place three seperate Halloween stories.

See... complicated. Read HK out of that context. They were done before TLH and DV as special Halloween stories, and weren't intended to be a part of TLH or DV continuity. They're only collected because Loeb ad Sale's Batman work is popular.

I see. Its easier to just leave HK out of continuity. So the man who laughs takes place at the end of year1 and the begining of year 2?

That's what I do.

That's the idea. I put it after Year One, and before TLH.
