Ultimate Psylocke has finally reappeared in Ultimate XMen starting with issue #98. And that's the Ultimatium arc where a lot of mutants are supposed to be killed off. I guess it's goodbye for Betsy again. :(

I'm going to check out the book. She's just dissapeared when Coliete took over the book. I really hope she survives Ultimatum!

I had thought Coliete would have used Psylocke when he began because he expressed interest in Psylocke in one interview he made before his debut began and then just wasn't included or mentioned at all, now all of a sudden during Ultimatum she returns? That's why I'm convinced she's dead.

Well I read in many interviews they were going to kill off a lot of recognizable characters so many that when the titles relaunched you'd barely recognize the characters or something like that. So I wouldn't be surprised if characters like Psylocke, Toad and Pyro were randomly killed off for the sake of being killed off. Even though Ultimate Psylocke is really badass and is a telepath and has a sharper edge than 616 Betsy. Plus I love the piercings and the dark eyes.

Yep.. i also really liked Ultimate Psylocke for the reasons you've mentioned above. She's one of a few characters that's really an 'Ultimate' version compared to 616 version ones.
And I liked the 'adult woman in an 16 years old girl' concept.

Yeah they are. They're like Gambit's only yell instead of red. Damn she's badass!! And even though she's died once before and has come back they can still kill her again. They did that to Beast in the Ult verse before and now he's dead again. =( Damn them.

As much as I wanted that to happen, I think it wouldn't make sense for Betsy to appear briefly in MC and then go back to the Exiles.
Unless.. she ended up in one of the 616 X-books post MC..

I love her too! And I love how she looks like a little girl and her uniform is too cute! I hope they aren't thinking of killing her just because there's another telepath with the X-men. :frown:

I totally understand. But the point is there was no real reason why she couldn't be used in Messiah Complex and still be in Exiles.

Wolverine does it all the time and it would only make sense especially if Psylocke was keeping tabs on 616.

I'm just bitter she missed out on such a fun event. This is one of the reasons Psylocke isn't considered a major player or important because these past few years she's been completely absent in anything that was important to the books.

Anybody read New Exiles #14?

Just like last issue, while I find the whole issue was just okay, I actually really like Psylocke in this issue.
It seemed that CC took note of our complaints about her not using TK enough in fighting.


In this issue, aside from using her fighting skill, she used her power in forms of shield, katana , baseball bat.. and beat one of the Shiar Commando.

And I really like how Tim Seely draw her. Other than a bit too 'breast-y', I'm liking Betsy's face expressions. She looked confident, elegant and bad ass at the same time!

I noticed about the 6 part-arc when the preview was out several days ago. So yes, I think the current arc ends with #18.

Based on solicits, cover and infos, some of the exiles might be killed/injured/sent home. So she might actually leave the team and hopefully heading to 616.

Although.. I'm not quite sure anymore whether I want her to be in Uncanny. I'm not too fond of the concept they called ensemble cast there since all the female characters (other than Emma and Pixie) were basically wallpapers. Even Storm!!
Actually I'm beginning to like her in New Exiles :eek: , but definitely prefer her to be in 616. As long as it's not in (the current) Uncanny.

I just don't like how they treat Storm, Karma and Dazzler in Uncanny. It's good that Sorm is also in other books (Astonishing, Black Panther and A World apart mini). But Karma and Dazzler were basically brought back just to appear in a couple of pages each issue! At least Psylocke has a prominent role in New Exiles and I'm actually beginning to like her as character now.

I did like this slightly better than the other issues. But Im glad shes using her abilities in other ways now. Definitely a plus.

Pure physical fight.. Ultimate all the way.
Telepathic contest, contest of wills, Aussie all the way.

Mixed contest:
1) If Aussie Betsy fought like how she used to. Then she would win, using surprise and Illusion, then finish with a Telepathic coup de gras. Not getting her hands dirty.

Ultimate Betsy would pretty much go all stabby on her. Use telepathy to try and wear her down, then punch her lights out, while she was all dazed.

a lot of people have said she has no accomplishments so i shall point one out in X-men: the end she single handedly held Cassandra Nova paralyzed while the rest of the team recovered, considering nova slaughtered all of the x-men, and the Imperial guard how's that for awesome? not to mention she has excellent fighting skills, powerful tek abilities and has resurrected almost as much as Jean

At the moment, Cap Brit, X-Force and Legacy (Carey's book) are the only titles I'd want her to be if she gets back to 616.... Unless it's an avengers book. But I don't think she'll be out of the X-office anytime soon.

They changed both Betsy's dress colors and Storms tops now more shiny than before. The colors are alright. Ninja Betsy actually looked better but I just find the british one doesn't match well with the hair color (compared to the old one).

And Mercury. Not only is Cess cool with Laura's dark side, they are good friends, and they would make an awesome team. Psylocke has had experience with shape shifters, and shes very smart. She would have an immense impact on both of them.

I'd say that Betsy can indeed mentor Laura. But I wouldn't say that Laura is the better fighter though.
X-23 was trained to kill and she has well.. the regenerative power. So she's probably she's the more effective KILLER.
Betsy got her skill, from being brainwashed/bodyswaped, as prime assasin for the Hand/Mandarin, and always been training and keep challenging herself with best fighter in MU, including Wolverine, Sabertooth (both 616 and AOA) and Ogun (alternate). So she's a very skilled martial artist.The thing is, as deadly as she can be, Betsy CHOOSE not to Kill; well.. only when necessary.

But yeah.. there're so much to mentor other than fighting. And I think Betsy is perfect to mentor Laura. And also Cessily and Julian :smile:

I'm pretty sure Betsy'd still be close to Logan. They're beer buddies after all!
But I'm all for Colossus-Betsy being BFFs. They're pretty close during the Outback. She's a fun girl.. and he can draw her again as many times as he wants.
I can see Betsy financing Piotr for an art exhibition or better investing in his own paintings gallery.

Yep..Marvel should check out Psylocke's Costume Gallery in Uncannyxmen.net for references the next time they want to make her toys/figure. And future artists should check out Betsy's collection of costume before drawing her in a book.

It's also quite an irony that during her last stunt in Uncanny, they had her wearing the Hand-Ninja costume back after having several costumes before.

Totally agreed. Betsy is capable of being a bitch. But she's also a fun and loving person. She loves driving fast car but also into high fashion. She's a great friend to the guys as much as the ladies. And.. she's great with the kids too (New Mutants).

As much as the 90s era gave her popularity, I think it also damaged her character. She's pretty much associated with ninja,sexy, bitch, nimbo (well..the nimbo came out from the whole Revanche plot).
She's more than those things. I wish future writers will study her character more and try to write her right.

That's the part of her I miss the most. She always had this very ladylike demeanor. That was a defining trait of hers, proper, forthright, yet a tough action junkie, who thought things through. Many of her old traits have largely been ignored.

I mean she truly is not the same character as she once was. Emma has been through many changes and has remained the same, yet grown.
Scott was always the tactical, thinking, highly active member with a plan. He has Grown ALOT, no longer whining and pinning for Jean, or crying about his past. He stepped up yet remained the same.

Psylocke basically became a pin up model, who thought defeating the enemy involved boring them about the thing she just stabbed them with. Then standing over them and holding said thing in the air. Even Jubilee commented abotu that once. was very LOL. I hope Yost or another writer can bring her back to roots.

It really depends on which book she's going to be joining though.
Sure we've heard that the X-Men is going for a more militaristic approach. But I haven't seen any of that in Uncanny and Legacy. So far the SI:X-Men and X-Force are the ones that diplaying the X-Men becoming more army-like.

But yes.. I'm intrigued on how she'd react about what had happened to the X-Men since she joined the the Exiles - (no more X-Mansion in Weschester; X-Men moving the San Fran; a new mutant birth; possibility of knowing about X-Force?).

By having Betsy join Legacy or X-Force, we might get those things above.

Being an action junkie she chase them but then a guy with metal wings stopped her from interfering. When Warren realized that the woman is Betsy, Warren gradually reverting back to Angel. Just when they about to say anyting one of the villains shot him. A couple of men show up and we're getting some Betsy-X-Force action.
Imagine the massive amount of characterization we would get.. Reuniting with Logan, Warren and Laura? Knowing about the X-black ops? Interacting with Warpath, Domino, Elixir, Wolfsbane? Hmmm..

That would be heaven! Uncanny's too crowded, it won't do any characters who arent Cylops, Wolverine and Emma any favors. This is the problem with this rotating cast crap, we may see Betsy for two months and then she disappears for like 4 months. That sucks. But the good thing is that Betsy returns in time for the X-event that may divide the X-Men and this way we can get two books with two completely different casts again *is dreaming*.

I'll admit I'm not an avid reader of X-Force, but isn't Wolfsbane out of commission because of trauma she's suffered because of being a part of this team? And wasn't Wolverine fighting her inclusion on this team because she didn't "fit?" Didn't Elixir asked to be mind-wiped because he didn't want to remember anything associated with X-Force?

It's interesting that all of these images of "gray morality Psylocke" were pre-Siege Perilous. This is supposition and maybe wishful thinking on my part, of course, but as you all have illustrated, Psylocke was straddling that line for quite a while (a trend with Marvel telepaths, it seems). Regardless of the motivation, I can't see her crossing over. She's been on the dark side as Lady Mandarin and given her mental issues these days in Exiles, I think she'd be extra sensitive of setting herself up on a slippery slope.

Yeah I miss that too. The only times I can really think of her almost killing someone in her ninja state was when she stabbed Omega Red in the lung or against Cameron Hodge in X-tinction Agenda. She when she was going to use her psychic knife to kill him(it didn't work but still). Even though Betsy was never a outright killer I think it was always a given that she would if need arise. If she does join X-force she will understand this and use her abilities to do just that. Kill. If need arise. Otherwise I just see her just beating a chump down. Even without the telepathy her tk still gives a pretty hefty powerset to the team. A valuable one at that. Still my main two guesses for Betsy to appear are X-force or Legacy when it changes direction.

Spoilers for Ultimate XMen #98...

Betsy doesn't die in the issue, but Syndicate is shot down by Ult William Stryker and his warriors. The only mutants in the mansion by the end of the issue is Psylocke, Syndicate, Firestar and Toad (IIRC) and one's already down. I doubt they'll kill off Firestar seeing as Bendis created her and uses her in Ultimate SpiderMan as well, so that leaves Toad and Psylocke to be pumped with lead next issue. I hope I'm wrong though! :(

It was definitely meant to be Stryfe. CC confirmed it. Stryfe wanted revenge on Psylocke after her attack led to his defeat in an X-Men Annual. Can't help you on the second because strangely enough I don't think it's ever been concretely revealed.

About X-Force,
I'm not sure whether Elixir was mindwiped. It seems that The Cuckoos/Cyclops just threatened him. In the last two issues, he seems like himself to me not to mention joining the team in missions. Yost said that Rahne is going to have a big story in the next arc. They're doing well in that title IMO.
That's why I like X-Force so much. The book is not just about killing people. There are also good characterizations, internal conflicts dan nice plots. Issue #9 perfectly portrayed those things. I think Psylocke will be perfect for the book

And yes, I missed the old badass Psylocke. Both pre and early Ninja Psylocke showed that she'd not hesitate to hurt people as long as it's for the right reason/purpose. Her psychic knife was feared by lots cause it's inflict damage/pain beyond death itself.

And that's why I don't like the TK Katana. It's not working as tk energy should do, which can physically cut thru things including human bodies.
Eventhough it's mentioned that the TK Katana inflicted pain just as much as the physical wound would, it's not being properly displayed. People who got stabbed by her katana would just got stunned where as her tp-knife can cause severe brain damage.
Sadly, I think Psylocke kinda lost her edge throughout the 90s till now. Future writers should take note of Betsy's appeareances in early 90s or prior to that.

Betsy doesn't die in the issue, but Syndicate is shot down by Ult William Stryker and his warriors. The only mutants in the mansion by the end of the issue is Psylocke, Syndicate, Firestar and Toad (IIRC) and one's already down. I doubt they'll kill off Firestar seeing as Bendis created her and uses her in Ultimate SpiderMan as well, so that leaves Toad and Psylocke to be pumped with lead next issue. It's interesting that all of these images of "gray morality Psylocke" were pre-Siege Perilous. This is supposition and maybe wishful thinking on my part, of course, but as you all have illustrated, Psylocke was straddling that line for quite a while (a trend with Marvel telepaths, it seems). Regardless of the motivation, I can't see her crossing over. She's been on the dark side as Lady Mandarin and given her mental issues these days in Exiles, I think she'd be extra sensitive of setting herself up on a slippery slope.

I don't know if Emma crosses over to the dark side again, but at the end of Secret Invasion #8 Joe Quesada talks about the Dark Illuminaughty like this "With all that power, what chance do our heroes stand? What surprises and evil plots do these villains have in store? If they are really united, who can oppose them?"

And I've been reading some spoilers, it seems Wolverine's Avengers team will oppose the Dark Illuminaughty or something. So taoday in the dorm this guy brought out his anime dvd of a show called Basilisk. In it there was a purple haired ninja chick who could manifest these pink butterflies and it totally made me think of Betsy. It was wonderful. I'll try and find some scans.

I think I've watched the real-people dvd. I love the girl with the butterflies ability. But I'm not sure whether she had a purple hair in that movie. I think the movie is a rendition of the anime and possibly from a comic book.

I'm quite liking New Exiles too at the moment. The series has gotten quite good since issue #11. Seely is also a nice welcome. Kinda feel the same way bout the boots. But he also draws Betsy with an attitude, which is good.
On the other hand, I'm not sure about the Phycic immunity thing. It's just a bit too much. I know it's quite unique. But she's already has the superpower TK at the moment. One of them gotta go, IMO.

Actually in the X-Men arcade game in the 90s, Psylocke already has the ability to manifest lots of pshycic butterflies to harm the opponent. I loved it! It's one of my favorite moves of hers. I think it's called Kouche Gakure (thousands butterflies??)

Yeah, he might be irritated.. but we couldn't blame the fans right? It was announced 3 months ago that she's returning to the X-Men. And with recent development (cancellation) of New Exiles, people are getting more confident that she's returning.
He might also very cautious in giving info now, especially after the changes made in X-infernus.

I think we've asked most of the X-writers about Betsy's returning to a 616 X-book.

Well Brubaker is no longer part of the Uncanny creative team. His name might still be on a few more issues or even the next arc but he's no longer plotting/writing. It's all Fraction from here on out. :)

I basically did this in 20 minutes. I originally intended it to be a plain body done in ink, and well, drew designs over it in pencil and erase after, but I felt I should share this one. Still trying to improve on my drawings, but here's a version of Psylocke I created, a costume I created, combining her x-treme look, ninja look, and some new aspects as well. Hope you like it :smile: It was a rough sketch (will probably do a good one later), and the colour scheme of the costume is pink and purple or midnight blue and silver.

I liked the design.. It's great you had her wearing pants but also doesn't entirely change the hand costume.
It also kinda have Sage's X-treme costume and New Exiles costume too (especially the breast thingy) :biggrin:

I'm pretty excited about Psylocke returning to 616, and I hope she gets assigned to X-Force. That could really give the writers a chance to bring out the vice in the character that the comics have begun to lack over the years. Well, glad you guys heard my penny's worth.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a certain younger twin / sibling on-scene for the story. I also would keep my eyes peeled for some surprises along the way -- not simply in this story but also in the final issue of Exiles.

Too bad to see the series move on from me; we (as in me, Tom G & Mark P) had some way-cool stories planned for '09. Ah, well.

It's payback time for Spiral and Psylocke!Although,I wasn't too fond of the idea of this "Sisterhood",a few moments between Betsy and Spiral would be great.

Maybe Psylocke is not one of these characters that Marvel hates at the moment.

By the way,guys,in which team would you enlist Psylocke?I was thinking about putting her in X-Men:Legacy,but after Rogue's arc,they said that Adjectiveless X-Men won't be a team book.Anyway,as long as she doesn't appear in X-Force and Uncanny X-Men,we're lucky.Another good idea would be to have Psylocke in Astonishing X-Men,in my opinion.Betsy's one of the few members that can shut Emma's mouth a little...Remember waht happened in Uncanny X-Men #460?

I'm sooo excited about Betsy's return to the main x-book. And, I'm eager for Betsy/Emma interactions. Although, I was eager for Storm/Emma interactions for the same reason, but those haven't panned out nearly as well as I hoped. Storm doesn't knock down Emma nearly enough. Hopefully Betsy will!

With Legacy changing into a different kind of book shortly, it got me thinking that i might actually get very close to my perfect xmen team book (altough i guess this would be an ex-xmen book)... obviously we have:

1)Psylocke/ returning from exile :biggrin:
2)Xavier, Gambit and Rogue/ Legacy characters
3)Nightcrawler/ looks like he is quiting the (Cyclops') xmen
4)Beast/ seems to be having doubts about Cyclops vision and Carey writes Beast alot.

5)Then we have all the characters who gravitate around 1-4. (Friends and Enemies).

March really cannot come quick enough!!!!

As for Storm and Rogue. I think I like the way they are now.. Storm being an X-Man and Queen. She might not be able to be there 24/7 for the X-Men though. So, she might take an absence once in a while depending on the storyline.

About Rogue. I think I'm happy with Rogue with just her own power. I know many loved the powerhouse Rogue. But I believe in Carey writing her with just her absorbing power. She was awesome in that Carey's first arc in Adjectiveless.

Now.. Psylocke is the hardest part. I don't think I want to make her more convoluted by changing her powerset again. But I agree that she needs that edge of being morally ambigous just like her Aussie days. Maybe that's what the Sword of Braddock - One Shot suppose to address.

I'd be great if Legacy change into a young mutants book with Xavier, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Rogue, Moonstar, Beast and the young kids starring it.

Xavier is the owner of the school but not actively teaching. Betsy can co-finance the school as well.
Nightcrawler is the new Headmaster of the school.
Psylocke, Rogue, Northstar, Moonstar and Beast are the new teachers.
It'd be nice to have a couple of the Gen X characters as members/officers/teachers of the new school. Maybe Jubilee and Chamber?

And yes.. Psylocke can train Loa :smile:

Well, the problem is all I know of 616 Dazzler is Essential X-Men 7+8 plus her appearances in the first few issues in X-Men. I don't know what to say on her since I haven't read enough of her. And what I have read...egh. Ultimate Dazzler is more my cup of tea. I don't know, my only suggestion is that they should re-awesomize her in the way that make her fans proud since they obviously know her better.

Indeed! Even though UXM is getting cancelled, I don't care, Ultimate Betsy is so like the Betsy I know and love, giving out orders and brilliant in her own strong way. Seriously, she may not have been around much, but what she was around for was lovely. If they kill her I will be absolutely peeved, that'll mean that ALL my Ultimate loves are ruined. Gambit and Dazzler are dead, Emma's at her most boring again, evil, and Colossus and Northstar are both handicapped. And of course, Scarlet Witch is dead, so no magical retcon. Damnation!

And oh, yes, X-Force would be good, as long as she doesn't do that stupid compare herself to Wolverine thing that Claremont has her and Sage and everyone else do. If she's going to be in a book with killers I want to see her define herself differently.

And another concern besides Fraction's crap writing is she might just get the Dazzler treatment and just show up on covers and a small cameo.

Egh, I find Dodson above standard, but not by much. I find that he's one of the artists that needs obvious differences in characters (green and purple hair for instance) because his people look the same.
But Land is terrible, I find it hard to believe he's on Uncanny. Does Marvel not see how much hate he gets? Geez, for Uncanny they should be giving us the best writers and artists which they seem to rarely do.

And mm, she's fierce and I think if for some reason Ultimate X-Men shows up again somewhere she'd make a great X-Leader Lady. Like give her the Gold-Strike Force team or however. It's not like Storm is going to be a leader in this universe. And I have a feeling it's time for Jean to do her dying thing again for some amazing moment that no one saw coming in Ultimatum. Even though she dies a lot.

Now.. Psylocke is the hardest part. I don't think I want to make her more convoluted by changing her powerset again. But I agree that she needs that edge of being morally ambigous just like her Aussie days. Maybe that's what the Sword of Braddock - One Shot suppose to address.

There are skilled and visible writers who have wanted to write Dazzler, but so far JQ has nixed most of those ideas. I suppose the fans have pushed enough for her return, but we've still been denied anything more than cameos. She has been on multiple covers now, but has had very little dialogue or relevance (if any).

I'm hoping Psylocke doesn't suffer the same fate if she appears in Uncanny. So far she's been on the cover of an issue without having actually appeared within the pages (strike one by Dazzler's unfortunate example).

Exactly, like reading "Absolute Power" I got all hopeful like it was going to be a love story in the end or something that finally gives Jean-Paul and Peter some page-time. Then Jean-Paul gets crippled and Peter gets stuck in metal form.....Ultimate Elixir time? And unfortunately, Dazzler was getting crap writing before she died, trying to make her sound like any idiot teenager out there with a My Chemical Romance shirt.

Yeah I miss that too. If I had to pick my favoreite incarnation of Betsy it would most definitely be british in the Aussie days. She was so morraly grey and when she fought the Marauders it was marvelous. She was always so badass and it was hella sexy. As for what Jarrod said. LOL

I liked Psylocke a lot when she was ressurected, the stories she was in during Uncanny but right when she joined Exiles, her character became very boring and far less interesting.

I wonder why that was? Either I missed Psylocke so much after all those years she died that I loved seeing her again and it wore off by Exiles or the sudden change of plans just made her less interesting since she was just randomly whisked away to Exiles just cause that was his only title? Either way I don't give a damn cause she's finally free from CC's prison.

I agree with CmX. Right after Psylocke was resurrected, the stories involving her were pretty fun to read. I think it remained somewhat for the first Exiles arc featuring her. But then, all that kind of died out and Psylocke became increasingly boring. Totally glad she's being switched to a different writer (given he does her justice, of course)
