I like Psylocke with the X-Men! But I'm too a little worried she'll become a background character again. Or, you know, make Emma look stronger and better than her lol

Do you think they'll have Bianchi design her a new outif? By Bianchi design I mean an updated ugly version of a previous or iconic look = bathing suit. :frown: lol

Lets hope not. I love Bianchis still of art but no more Nimbokini's.

Okay, CMX.. Perhaps we all just wondered, we already have 2 tiny semi-official annoucement of her returning to 616. And both of them just randomly have her news right after the zombie's..

I'm just glad that she's returning.. and by the info you shared earlier.. she'll be coming back to the biggest selling X-book at the moment.. Added with the possibility of other writers wanting to use her in their books.. I couldn't be more happier than that.

Alex created the biggest and greatest Psylocke website on the web and it's such a shame she lost interest. I remember her reaction to Psylocke joining the Exiles wasn't very enthusiastic and I think that's what got her to lose what remaining interest she had in the character lol

I'd wish she come back and dust off the site now that she's going to be making a spectacular return to the 616 universe!

And I just read the Carey's interview. So Legacy will be transformed into somethin' else after the Rogue story. (presumable in April 09?).

Kinda wonder, who's gonna write Betsy when she's comin' back to Uncanny? The current arc is being written by Fraction (till November- #504). And Bru will be writing the following arc (Desember - March?). So.. it's gonna be Bru then? Or. we're getting Betsy after the Bru arc (April)?

Arrgh.. I'm speculating here... Can't wait for the December solicitation..Wonder whether there's gonna be some more news about her returning to 616.

That site/forum actually the first place where i learn alot about Psylocke.
I only started reading X-books on 2003 due to my interest on the character but mostly just hunting down every issues that has Psylocke in it. And my first issue was (ironically) Xtreme X-Men #2 and #3. Yes... the death of Psylocke LOL.

Well one thing's for sure... after feeling like the Emma Frost show for awhile, having Storm, Dazzer and Psylocke squarely back in the X-Men, Magma and Karma getting spotlight roles, Rogue back in Legacy, Domino in X-Force, Dani heading the students, Rachel and Polaris in Kingbreaker/Annihilation 3, it's a nice change of pace for the female X-people. I do miss Kitty, Jean, Meggan and Sage still though. :frown:

I've finally read confirmation at the recent Diamond retailers summit that my beloved Psylocke will soon be returning to 616 and rejoin the Uncanny X-Men. Yay! Any idea when that might happen? I suppose early next year at the earliest. Also, can you tell give us some hints as to what the future holds for this often mis-treated character?

Seconded!! We probably should also 'advocate' the artist, who's going to draw her in the near future, to put her in a new costume - not the ninja thong kini again.

Considering the similiarities of her costume in House of M, Wolverine & X-Men , and the Uncanny #505 cover. They should redesign her costume based on those designs!!

That'd help future pylocke's figurine from being just another ninja-thong again. We need variety!!

All you have to do is start writing into the Uncanny XMen letters, or write to whoever edits Uncanny and plead the artist to either keep the New Exiles outfit or give her a new design basically anything, but revert her to the hand outfit. Land and Dodson have both drawn her and they both automatically drew her in the hand outfit... that worries me. :(

But there's an announcement at Diamond Summit saying that Betsy will return (to 616) soon.

And there's this forum where a fan wanted to confirm to Ben Morse (Marvel Assistant Editor) of her being back to Uncanny. And he simply replied that he/she should check out X-Infernus in December..

We also had some inside info saying that she'll back to Uncanny..

And of course.. there's this Uncanny X-Men #505 cover. Starring both Asian and British Betsy. Sweet!!

I figure it that Revanche is being ressurected and Betsy is coming back to 616(finally!). Once they are both back, Betsy and Revanche will finally switch bodies again and switch codenames too (Betsy takes the name Revanche and vice versa). This way, Marvel still has Psylocke as the sexy Asian who uses a telekinetic (possibly telepathic) Katanna and Betsy gets her butterfly effect back and maybe even get to keep her (psi)dagger. Both the fans and Marvel win!:biggrin:

That could be it.. Ben Morse told LuckyStar that there'll be more appearances before the (official) news. As to which team she (or they?) will be joining.. That as yet to be seen.

I'd love for Psylocke to join the X-Force as long as she'll be the non-killing member of the team - knocking out villains, messing with opponents mind (tp-betsy), providing TK shield for the team. etc.. I believe Yost could use her effectively.
TBH, I just don't see Betsy as a killer. Kwanon/Revanche on the other hand was a professional assasin.

To be fair, there other books that Betsy could join (Uncanny, X-Men after Legacy, CB & MI:13)

If Wolverine could do it i don't see why she can't.

Does it really matter how "nekkid" a character is? Considering how formfitting most costumes are the only noticeable difference is if they are flesh-colored or not. :tongue:

He was never really "HER" main enemy, he was captain britains. He only harmed her to get to Brian. I understand it damaged her Psyche a bit. But she's had Sabretooth run ins more than Slaymaster run ins..

By the way, I was reading some old X-Infernus interviews. This one got me wondering.

"Ex Infernus" closes out the X-Men's 2008, and when the series wraps in 2009 some X-Characters will find themselves with very different status quos. Lowe said, "This mini will have lasting effects on at least two major X-Books."

I wonder if Betsy is one of those characters now.

With Psylocke being Brian’s twin sister and rumored to be returning to the real 616 universe soon, is there any chance of her making a cameo in the title? What about Meggan? You’ve done a magnificent job with the cast of your title and I’d love to see your take on both characters.


Cornell: Thanks very much, RedRogue. I'm a bit stymied by wanting to keep my surprises close to my chest, but let's just say that I love both characters (my wife loves to play Psylocke on that X-Men beat ‘em up game you find in arcades), and would love to write for either of them -- which doesn't mean they'll both be appearing!


Thoughts:
Whoaa.. It's about time someone asked Cornell that question. Based on his answer, as much as I want her to be in CB&MI:13, I don't think she'll be appearing there soon. Unless what Cornell meant by not both is: only one of them will be appearing. If that's the case, I think Meggan has the bigger possibility.
At least we know that both him and his wife love Betsy :wink:



On the topic of Psylocke, Jarrod had a thought, along with a few other questions.


1) The redefinition and clarification of Brian's power-set was much needed and appreciated, but I've always wondered about his (and Betsy's) hinted origins being more products of genetic engineering by their father and Merlyn. Any chance you'll ever delve into that? It does seem curious due to the sort of power fluctuations both have had over the years, especially since it was initially hinted that the twins might've been engineered to take Merlyn's place and rule together. Any thoughts on this?

Cornell: Thanks very much, Jarrod. I think Merlin's plans change over time. He's not omniscient, though he'd often like us to think that. He's set up Brian now as he wants and needs him to be. I don't know if I'd like to get into the origin stuff, because I do like to move forward, though I can see the attraction. It rather feels like something for way down the line, after we've got lots of nice big story under our belts.

Thanks for posting the question, Jarrod. I guess Cornell has no plan on touching Betsy's and Brian's origin yet not to mention Brian's (or both) role as the ruler of Otherworld. I think the series will be focused more on Britain (and no Betsy :frown: ).

I really hope Cornell could loosen his cast a bit. Even if Betsy is off the table for him I think having Betsy as cameo would be ok, as long as the story fits.

If she keeps it, will she at least get creative with it, and become more strategic. That's the one part of her I miss, most. That's my concern too. Uncanny is kinda wierd at the moment. I think the current creative team is trying a bit too hard on making the series 'fresh' and modern-like. Land's art didn't help as well..

I just don't want her to be background character. She deserves a new home (book) as part of the core cast. And I think (post) Legacy and CB&MI:13 are the best place for her.

I'm late to this thread so if this question has already been asked, forgive me but are the going to a mini first or are they just going to put her directly into an X-Book? I really don't see her fitting with any X-team right now unless her personality has dramatically changed.

While Nightcrawler is as solid as Wolverine in Uncanny, sadly.. Storm is a background character there.

I've just heard that the X-Office has been itching to bring Psylocke out of Exiles for a very long time and they've finally gotten the opportunity. I was told that they are very glad to finally have her back so I imagine they are going to try and take full advantage of her.

Yes, Magik will not be the only character returning in “X-Infernus.” I won't reveal if that means returning from the dead or from other certain places unknown in the Marvel universe, but some faces not seen in a long time will be popping up come December.

Well there is no inclination that wings are pulled back let alone existing on her back and Pixie doesn't have purple hair. Plus Betts is supposed to be back around December anyway and thats when the issue comes out. so it just helps play to hope that it is Psylocke british and true.

Even in that picture, she looks more British than Asian. British women aren't all Pale and pasty. They tend more towards a salmon/tan color. Which fits with her look.

Well, I was never a HUGE enough Psylocke fan to know of her costumes, and frankly I just thought that it would be weird to have 2 Psylocke's on the same cover, considering all of the other "big" X-Women were also there.

On that note, I have to say that I find it sad that even dragging Betsy out of NExiles, there are still only 4 really relevant X-Women in the current titles. And some of them don't have large roles. I thought that they had added Pixie to the cover only because she was part of the cast.

It's kind of sad (or enfuriating if I let it) how since Scott took over everything X, everyone else seems like they're his supporting cast, instead of co-protagonists on a team-based franchise :mad:

Well, apparently Marvel disagrees with us about Emma, because the only way she got the spotlight was after every other important X-Woman was taken out of the way either getting killed, married off, gone to another dimension, or stuck on a frickin' bullet forever. This is the best explanation I could have thought of. My main reason for not considering it could be Pixie is because the wings were left out and that has like never happened before and would be a really huge thing to leave out. I mean has anyone forgotten to draw Warren's wings? And besides it's a grown adult and Dodson in the past when drawn Pixie makes her look at least somewhat juvenile.

Of course I could be totally and completely wrong and this could just be a cute pin up cover, but I doubt it. And what also doubts my theory is of course you're right if it is about Scott and the ladies why would Jean be left out of his subconscious ? We'll see in Dec!

I still wish she had gotten a chance to Truly lead the X-men , as she did against Zaladane. Even if only for a little while. She became a bigger character after the Transformation, for both Good and Bad reasons.

I believe that in the first issue of Adjectiveless, she used her telepathy to mask her presence and she did it well enough that Jean couldn't detect her. :wink:

Well Psylocke was a telepath that was capable of psycho blasts. Which basically are such powerful mental attacks that they cause actual physical damage. Which not just any telepath can accomplish.

Not only that but she was capable of so many different telepathic techniques she was extremely skilled.

I'm not sure if Psylocke is stronger than Jean, but for awhile there she was or just as strong as Jean, but the last few years have proven Jean just a fuckin unstoppable godlike powerhouse. Hence her death. :P

People also think that Emma is stronger than Psylocke, I think she's either on par or just as skilled. It's just that for years she relied on her psychic knife which wasn't as affective as when she took full advantage of her telepathic capabilities.

I believe that in the first issue of Adjectiveless, she used her telepathy to mask her presence and she did it well enough that Jean couldn't detect her. :wink:

As stated above I do believe that Psylocke was on par with Jean. But Jean had the benefit of he Phoenix powering her. Psylocke I think, isnt as powerful a Psi as Emma was back then. But alot more skillful. Also She proved capable of Multi tasking much more than most Psi's were ever shown to be. Most of them engaged in one on one battles. While Psylocke tended to excel at combat control and Multiple beings at once.

Her one weakness, was lack of physical combat ability, which landed her unconscious alot. But if you look at when the X-men fought many of their foes then, She proved pivotal to the battles.

Against the Marauders she took out Arclight and That touchy guy solo.

She's defeated Sabretooth as a Non ninja Telepath.

She was able to turn off Jean's powers during inferno.

She coordinated X-men activities during Fall of the Mutants, and was able to Make Supersabre take out Stonewall, saving Havoks Moral being. While also distracting the Blob.

She manhandled Sinister for a short time on the Astral Plane.

Was able to memory wipe multiple Genoshans and force that dude to restore rogue and wolvies powers.

Coordinated the X-men versus the Savage land mutates, leading them to victory.

There's more but she is definitely a capable woman. She lost nearly ALL of that during the body switch.

Part of the perceived depowering post Blue/Gold teams (versus Jean or Xavier) was tied into Nicezia's Kwannon bodyswap/mindmeld/facemeld retcon iirc. Not only was Kwannon's slutty influence implied to be responsible for Betsy throwing herself at Scott, but Betsy's high level telepathy was supposedly split between them too (Kwannon was just a low level empath beforehand). Yet another reason that crappy retcon bites the big one.

Telepathic Betsy was so skilled in using her telepathy especially for combat use. The multitasking and the way she use her TP suggested that she was not as powerful (raw power) as Xavier. I mean, if one has that much of raw power he/she would just fry everybody's brain from a distance.
Hence, knowing her limitation, she use her tp effectively to defeat enemies.
I'm not sure about Jean's and Emma's telepathy though. But back in those days, I never read anyone use telepathy as creative as Betsy in combat situations.

Early Ninja-Telepathic Psylocke did use tp as effectively as british Psylocke (the Mandarin, Madripoor, Omega Red story) but it went downhill as Claremont (and latter Lee) left her (X-Men)..
By the time CC has a hold of her (again) her power (was editorially mandated??) was switched to telekinesis..

I'm not sure what you meant about Yost not getting her though, cgar.. The last time i heard (from X-position) he's interested in using her. If anything I hope Psylocke goes into X-force. At the moment Uncanny isn't really doing anything for me and to see Land draw her.....*shudders* Still I think she makes her reappearance in X-infernus(i dont know why i just do) and were she goes from there ill wait and see.

Was looking over some of the older pictures of bets, and it hit me, Why all the super hard training in her current body if it still looks exactly the same as the old one? I mean, unless she finds to hard to keep the pounds off in her new body why the training routine? Oh and how did she keep her powers in a none mutant body?
