She was the stand-in leader during the later Aussie days too. Did a decent job, she kept them all from being killed by the Reavers.
I loved Betts as leader, she was strong, assertive, cunning... I wanna see her in a leadership status again...

She was really ruthless too. I loved that, and I think Yost hits the exact same beats with her.

OMG that would be heaven. The sell-out at Diamond was great. I heard that some shops ordered only like 20 or so issues and it was a major misstep because people came in loads for the book. I have a friend who said his shop sold out in like the first hour and they definitely are gonna order more with issue 2.
It's good to know that Psylocke still has that superstar quality, and the fact that Yost is writing doesn't hurt either.

Which X-men characters do you loathe?
Matt Fraction: The ones with the most-inpenetrable backstories; the ones that require wikipedia entries just to get off of square one. i've learned over this last little bit that there's... it's not like other characters in the Marvel U where, say, you can just ignore the killer broccoli aliens from Iron Fist's backstory and nobody really cares; some X fan, somewhere, is going to love that one thing you find cold, impenetrable, confusing, or just plain best left alone, and want to know why you didn't spend half an issue acknowledging it.
Continuity is the devil; consistency is the watchword.

Maybe, but I think he's just not into continuity. He clearly doesn't read up much on any of the characters since most of his cast is extremely OOC.

Well she did have to force him through the Siege Perilous.. He would've stayed and fought, probably killed a Reaver or two then promptly died.
I honestly think that if they hadn't just saved the Savage land again, They would have most likely beaten the Reavers, since Logan was on his way back home, He would have arrived just in time to Rally them.
I think that and if they stayed in the savage Land would have made for good reading. To me The Aussie Era was cut short, I wish it would have lasted a year or two longer.

Yeah I think he likes her for face value and is pushing her to the A-list, but I remember him saying something about going on wikipedia to find out about her crazy backstory that he admitted to not being familiar with. Plus I know a lot of people that were angry about the way he handled it and he probably knows that. I mean, I don't remember him having to put much thought in anyone else's backstory in UXM because besides the sisterhood arc it's just been about Scott and Emma and didn't really bring much from the past at least from what I can remember.

haha, thanks. I love how Betsy isnt intimidated by her and not afraid of getting bitchy with her. Emma cant stand her bc of it. I wonder if she knows that Betsy and Scott almost had a thing going on back in the day. That would be another reason for her not to want her around. I loved this moment and laughed when Betsy asid it

I KNEW BETSY WAS GETTING THE NEXT BIG PUSH!
I've been noticing Psylocke has been popping up in a lot of places lately: "Uncanny X-Men," "X-Men: Legacy," "Wolverine: Weapon X," and her own miniseries. I, for one, am grateful for this. Is there an intentional, combined effort to turn this mistreated character into a major player in the X-world?
It's definitely intentional and you have one man to thank for it - Axel Alonso. He loves Psylocke even more than Warren Worthington and CB Cebulski do…and that's saying a lot!
SHE WILL HAVE HER OWN ONGOING BEFORE YOU KNOW IT.

You never kno, tho. In the Psylocke #1 unlettered preview art, psycwave wished that Betts/Ali were riding off to go to the ~*mall*~ and they ended up going to dinner (and maybe a romcom hit film, too?), which is a close 2nd. <3
So maybe Xavier will be giving Psylocke mad kudos. tbh, I wish Psylocke would keep her hair up ALL THE TIME because it's HOT, allows it to fall down during DRAMATIC BATTLE SCENES, and plus I hate when it's all flat and schlacked down.

I will always be a Burtsy supporter, but Neal Shaara was actually pretty decent to me. I'm sure of Prof. Carey of K&Y dusted him off it would boost him to superstar status.
But yes anything is better than Psy/Sabes. I'm just over her and Warren. They are old news.

I hated that Claremont tainted the eventually Psylocke vs Sabretooth rematch by having her fall for an AR version of him. That was just wrong on so many levels

I think Dodson likes drawing Psylocke with her hair up or pinned in some manner.
The first time he drew her during the psychic hotel in Scott's head had Psylocke with her hair pinned up in the back and then we see her during Utopia in the x-sub with her hair up and here again now.
There was also a sketch he did with Betsy decked out in a bikini with a beach ball with her hair up.
Dodson said a long time ago in an interview that one of his favorite things about drawing females was their hair.

Yeah I know. I remember around that time everyone had all the characters butting heads with Emma Frost and I remember hoping that CC wouldn't do the same thing with Psylocke. So of he course he wrote them into a very caddy scene. Ugh.

That preview page of Dodson's Betsy is GORGEOUS. Ever since the Gen X days, I've loved how Dodson gives his females different hair styles. I like the look of Betsy's costume too. Looks like Dodson is subtly modifying it. It covers up more of her ass and it's a nicer, darker shade of blue (cuz of the ink/shadows most likely) than we usually get and her sash is purple which I like too.
I'm so excited that Betsy is actively being pushed to the forefront!! <3 <3

Waaaaaay back after House of M during Decimation. He lost his telepathy but regained the ability to walk. Although he obviously regained his telepathy eventually as well during Brubaker's Rise and Fall of the Shi'Ar empire.

Sweet. I've been waiting for this announcement! It sounds as though a lot of stores ran out of copies on the first day.
Although I honestly don't think retailers ordered many copies. Necrosha only sold 60k copies I imagine much less were ordered for Psylocke. Hopefully that'll change for the rest of the series.

NOVAYA:It would be improper for me not to address Lois London's forgettable sister, as well as Psylocke's rise to superstar status. Psylocke #1 was full of some Psylocke/Dazzler BBFmance moments in the initial pages. So: Psylocke/Dazzler -- BFF (Best Friends Forever), BFFL (Best Friends for LYFE), or FRENEMIES?
YOST: I'd say BFFL. They came up through the ranks together, surviving Sinister's Massacre. They took on Juggernaut together, found Jubilee in a mall together, hung in Australia together... and were drawn together on an Art Adams cover. BFFL. They've got the history, it's silly to deny it.
NOVAYA: AMAZING YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST BETSY/ALI BFFL MARK IT BITCHES. But there might be some CONTENTION. Both Psylocke and Dazzler have had the same man: Angel/Archangel. Who does Angel love more? Could this be potential for increased conflict?
YOST: They laugh at this attempt to drive them apart. Angel only loves Angel.
NOVAYA: GOD THEY TRULY ARE BFFL. NO MAN CAN BREAK UP SUCH A ~*STRONG BOND*~. However, is there a potential -- since Warren seems to have a split personality nowadays -- for Dazzler to have Angel and Psylocke to have ARCHANGEL (or vice versa)? Could make for an amazing story...
YOST: Eh. X-Factor kind of did it. Why even have the split personality? Just go for a straight threesome.

Yet, on an unrelated topic... how does Psylocke keep her outfit SO FRESH and SO CLEAN when she fights in that thing all day long? It seems like it would be a pain to keep Snuggle-style laundry fresh. Tips?

Gross. Thats her worst outfit to date. Im glad it only lasted as long as HoM did and not more. Nothing beats her X-treme costume which felt like a modern take of her classic swim suit Jim Lee design. Too bad that only lasted a few issues as well

I liked the HoM costume but it did lose ponts for the dragon lady steretype being played into it. I think if the purple dragon wouldn't have been on it I would have loved it. I did love her Xtreme costume as well.

I still want her to wear Revanche's outfit. Its a good one.....I just don't know what she'd do with the sash.

I've learned to partition my mind and delete the bad stuff, like Austen's run for example. With Psylocke's recent re-stint as Lady Mandarin I enjoyed her training her skills again with Ogun and using espionage skills to infiltrate the Emperor's fortress. Just remember the good things. I see people talking about Psylocke and AoA Sabes or something but that never happened. They're crazy! :biggrin:

Good question. Unfortunately, I got to read the story a few years after it was published so I have never reflected on the fact that Revanche could have been the real thing.
Wow, your question really made me miss British Betsy; I mean, I accept that she's Asian now, but looking back at those first issues, especially The Puzzle Box where Kwannon appeared unmasked and alongside Betsy, the British body was way hotter, the costume way better and the psi-scimitar looked way cooler than its Asian counterpart. The decision to kill of Revanche by using the Legacy Virus was such a disrespectful thing to do, to the British version.

I don't think Marvel is going to be giving any other X-Men their own ongoing anytime soon. (Well other than Wolverine or Cable) seeing as Emma Frost, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Rogue and I'm probably forgetting more all had failed series in the last five years.

Good question. Unfortunately, I got to read the story a few years after it was published so I have never reflected on the fact that Revanche could have been the real thing.
Wow, your question really made me miss British Betsy; I mean, I accept that she's Asian now, but looking back at those first issues, especially The Puzzle Box where Kwannon appeared unmasked and alongside Betsy, the British body was way hotter, the costume way better and the psi-scimitar looked way cooler than its Asian counterpart. The decision to kill of Revanche by using the Legacy Virus was such a disrespectful thing to do, to the British version.
You gotta remember ANYTHING that was half nekkid and exotic back in the 90's was hot.. You know who I actually blame for this?
Image comics... NONE of there women wore clothes back then , none. They ALL had some type of super ninja power. I think Marvel and DC got shook up and wanted to go this route. I don't think so,in my opinion,Marvel followed that policy(the common female nudity in comics)after the success of Marvel:Swimsuit special(which was released a year before Image Comics was founded).

Psylocke cut her hair as an homage to her BFF Dazzler. However, Dazzler had hers cut at a swanky Rodeo Drive salon in LA whereas Psylocke only had the option of Supercuts in humdrum Westchester. The mutual move to SF has done wonders for BOTH their hairstyles!

unforunately it doesnt look like she will get one. In some recent interview, that was asked and they said she's going to be wearing her current one for a while. I think they find it to be her iconic look and think she's more profitable in it

Is Psylocke defined by her costume? More prolific X-Women (Storm, Jean and Rogue, mostly) have had their costumes redesigned a billion times over the past 20 years, while Psylocke's still in the same damn costume.
It's a bathing suit with a red sash, Marvel. It's hardly irreplaceable.

I understand Marvel's consern about keeping the integrity of Psylockes iconic ninja costume, but that things needs an update. Seriously it has gotten to the point where it has gotten far too bland and boring in comparison to the others' costume. I really think the costume below, which is a tweaked Larocca version from X-Treme X-Men would suit her better for the x-men's current look.
Hopefully you guys on here won't think it show too much skin. I know thats been a concern. :tongue:

A reunion could be possible, but I agree with your point on the romance. Betsy could have been a trendsetter that inspired copycats.If he sees her from the back, he might automatically assume its her, but simply looking at her face, despite the hair, it might throw him off, until he talks to her, and/or watch her in action. If someone gave him a picture of her in her current state, I would expect him to be a bit confused

I honestly think that the ninja-version of Betsy was the prototype for all the big-breasted, can-do-some-ninja-moves women that Image produced at the time. As far as I can tell, Lee was the first artist to draw this kind of a 90's woman, and the formula got stuck for a long time. The only one of these women that I liked at the time (except for Betsy) was Angela.

I alway concidered Betsy to be one of the few X-Men who can take Logan out of the equation permanently; Wolverine (to me) has always seemed particular vulnerable to Betsy's telepathy somehow. That's why that particular scene in Old Man Logan made no sense at all.

Isn t it great that betsy can say things like that again! I bet shes so happy she has tp again. Betsy should have never had telekinesis, its like giving jean grey a diamond form it would never work.

Ive set up a new Psylocke Blog,mainly a gallery with lotsa original scans etc,espically from Marvel UK,coz i know lotsa u guys miss out on that stuff,anyway,its new but its gonna get alot bigger,check it out :)

Im kinda surprised how many betsy fans are actually here.Its great lol
and yep,everything will be getting uploaded on there,even her appreances in obscure stuff like "Dark Angel" "Deaths Head" "Overkill" etc.

Yup I agree and am glad TP betsy is back. Now just let the TK slowly fade and be forgotten. She so much better off without it, do it writers.
Psylocke's battle with Wolverine inside his mind is one of my favorite scenes. Jim Lee was at the top of his game during this time, IMO. The action that flowed from this scene was awesome! Too bad he started focusing more on poses and less on storytelling.

LOL! Yes, that last sequence (Rogue flying headfirst into rocks) happened when they were on Muir Island together. Thanks for the anthology of Rogue beatdowns, Psyc :wink:
