I know, I know, it's not the same, but still, the chance that any of us one day will own the rights to Psylocke are pretty slim.....unless any of you guys is secretly a gazillionaire? lol

I wish. If someone is a gazillionaire I just want to mention that I have excellent typing skills, sales experience, experience in the graphic arts, and I have a "radio voice". :biggrin:

Probably. Lord knows I've tried to create my own homemade comics plenty of times, but I have a habit of starting things and not finishing.

On an off-topic note I remembered something about one of the styles of martial arts that Psylocke knows that we discussed weeks ago in this thread. It's Chi-Sao, some sort of Chinese martial arts. It was revealed in that Unlimited issue she had when she was dead.

I admit I liked the Crimson Dawn. I got introduced to comics while Betsy was having her Crimson Dawn mini and I thought it was the best ever. I found many things in common with her.

BUT when I finally collected hundreds of back issues dating all the way back to UXM #94 and read her history from the ground up, I realized the Crimson Dawn was completely unnecessary, but I still can't forget how I felt about it beforehand. I still think that Kuragari would make an interesting villain for Betsy. She just doesn't need the CD powers or the bloody tattoo.

I agree. They both have similar backgrounds in that they have both been trained to be spies so they could have a few interesting conversations about that. They're both great fighters and could spar with each other.

All these possibilities make me want to create my own comics featuring Psylocke instead of hoping to see it done by the professionals.

She kept a modified version of the armour.

After leaving the team, she kept in contact with them. but she became a Psychic Investigator. I love Detectives.. especially psychic ones.

So she is a sorta heroine.. but mainly a costumed detective.

She tends to team up with alternate Earth versions of other heroes. This world Mutants and Non-mutant superhumans are accepted. Since in reality no one can truly tell the difference.

I completely agree. Though when Warren started dating Husk, I began hating his character and that's when my Warren/Betsy love disappeared. I then wanted her to be single. I hated her with Neal and AoA Creed. Now that I like Warren again I think they should get back together. I can't take any more experiments from Betsy either in the relationship department.

Personally, I don't think that Fraction is the right writer for a Betsy-Warren long/short hook up, but who knows, he might surprise (us).

You know, I never thought of that; that Betsy was to immature to handle a (semi-)serious relationship, a very good observation CmX!

Makes me wonder how a therapist (no, I'm not talking about Dr Phil) would have classified their relationship. As an amateur (heck, I'm much less than that! lol), the word "psychological abuse" comes to mind. As you say, their "mushy love" started to disolve after a while, becoming something quit dark and complicated.

I too would rather her bee alone for the moment. I don't want her to be with WW3 again because I feel they have both moved past the rellationship. It was great while it lasted and they had some good times but they ended on a good note and can still remain civil. I like the Kurt/Betsy pairing because well they can compliment each other very well. Neither are one of those clingy overly emotional psychotic types. Betsy is just the woman to help loosen up during those hard times and Kurt is just the man to help tame some of Betsy's wild ways. Im sure his swashbuckling ways could even play off well to her action junkie.

But i reiterate, I would prefer her to be alone at the moment.

Sidebar: I just reread Sword of Braddocks for the umpteenth time and it never fails to amuse me that everyone in Betsy's old fashion circle and the media seems to recognize her despite her being in the Asian body. Does this mean her mutant/body-swap status is known worldwide.

I agree with everything you said. To me, it's Warren or no one else. <3 I've always thought it was cool how they kinda represent the myth of Eros and Psyche and how Love and Soul came to be together. Also, the butterfly is Psyche's symbol. So it all fits. Angel/Eros & Psylocke/Psyche 4EVAH! AIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE

I just want her out of her blue bathingsuit (I prefer saying this over the other creative terms you guys have come up with) ASAP!!!!! I do like it (I mean, I love drawing her in it) but a character can only be in one outfit for sooooo long. Especially an ex-fashion model like Psylocke!

Coming to the pants vs. thong matter, I wouldn't mind if it were half-and-half, actually. Say, one leg exposed and the other covered. I did a sketch of a similar desing a long while back. Let's see if I can find it.

i loved betsys x-treme x-men outfit, i thought it was odd that when she was ressurected in it she chose to wear the standard x-men uniform instead. although i thought the standard uniform looked quite hot on betsy but i would have loved it if it was black and purple.

This is the greatest idea EVAR! And I for one love the new costume as it covers up her ass, and while it is a drastic enough change, it still has a little element of ninja Betsy. It still surprises me that it took so long to change her costume, other than the exiles costume, may it rest in peace.

my thoughts exactly. with uncanny they had karma, surge and armor making appearances who are all asian but even on the main team it's really only Pixie and Emma as far as white women. the whole book is basically a Scott, Emma and Pixie book anyway but if he wanted to add more characters of color there are many powered mutants who could fit that role. sexy ninja "prototypical psylocke" always wins with marvel though. asian psylocke is alright but i wish the body swap didn't happen again for no reason. oh well, i can still dream ;)

i loved betsys x-treme x-men outfit, i thought it was odd that when she was ressurected in it she chose to wear the standard x-men uniform instead. although i thought the standard uniform looked quite hot on betsy but i would have loved it if it was black and purple.

Yeah, her attitude reminds me of the late CC years and Blue/Gold era. She should be extra sneaky now with all the training she's received. I liked how she snuck onto that fortress, evading cameras/guards and picking locks with her own skills on that alternate world where she took the place of that world's Lady Mandarin.

I think he just means that she may be Asian on the outside, but not on the inside.

As for the costume, I think it's cute. I was hoping for pants, but short shorts are better than a thong and the cleavage is sexy. She's still covered up quite a bit so that's cool. I wonder what kind of boots she'll have on.

As for the color, I'm hoping for black/dark purple.

Regarding the British vs. Asian debate, I've always looked at it as the best of both worlds. If she stayed in the British body then she'd still be part Asian with ninja skills, the knife, etc. and if she's Asian she'd still be part British and now that her telepathy is returning and she's using psychic illusions and even the knife so it's a win/win to me!

The only thing that was annoying was the whole bait and switch thing. Fraction should've either never swapped her back to her original body in the first place, or just kept her in her original body. The swap then re-swap was unnecessary.

The part in Highlights... SO does that make how we feel anymore invalid? People get attached to things and beings. Fictional or not. Look at Harry Potter. If he were to suddenly become Black, think there wouldn't be an uproar, even if his creator did it? No because people are attached to Harry. Hell im black and if they did that, id be sh1tt1 pissed.

I would imagine that the garter belt is going to be the same signature blue/purple as it was in her ninja suit, the rest of the costume will most likely match that. The X's on the pencils could either be a second color or a shadow, although that much shadow would mean her outfit looks extremely shiny.

I'll have to wait for it to be colored before I decide, but another artist's rendition would be good too.

Wait, I'm confused. I've heard several posters remark that Chris Yost outright called Betsy's re-Asian-ning a move by Marvel because of Asian Psylocke's marketability. But where are those comments found? In all the interviews I've read from Yost regarding Psylocke (specifically, her new limited series in November), I've never come across such statements. In fact, in the interview Yost gave to Comic Book Resources, it is plainly stated that:

... while some fans may hold allegiance to the character's original form,
Yost and editor Daniel Ketchum agreed that Fraction and Land's use of
the Asian version made the most sense. "She definitely is going back to
her ninja assassin look," he said, citing J. Scott Campbell's variant for
"Uncanny #510" as a prime example of Psylocke. "We tend to think of that
as what people identify as the definitive Psylocke. I still kind of like the light
pink butterfly Psylocke here and there, but I think for most modern readers
Psylocke is that person.

Now, if folks are reading between the lines of Yost's comments to ascertain 'the truth', that's one thing; but nowhere is it expressly written that this was a mandate from Marvel to restore British Betsy. Moreover, given Fraction's comments to CBR about Psylocke's return, it sounds as though he had the option of bringing back British Betsy but decided to go with Asian Psylocke - a move that Yost, et al ultimately supported because they considered her to be the definitive/modern version.

Regardless, at least fans of Psylocke get a story in November told by one of comicdom's premiere writers; a story that honors Psylocke's present (as an Asian ninja) while staying true to her roots (a British telepath). I am definitely looking forward to this one when it comes out.

I grew up on Asian Psylocke so I'm very used to that version. It seems that most others think so as well....when you look throughout her career: Games, animation, movies, products--you see asian psylocke. The most you can get out of a British Psylocke is a poster....and thats a maybe. People everywhere probably know her as Asian. I mean when you think of Psylocke honestly, what do you see? What comes to your head and be truthful...I'm curious.


What I don't get is the absence of teh butterfly affect. Is it regarded as the British body exclusive because I know i have a comic somewhere with the asian body having it. It would be nice to see it "here and there " like Yost says, it was an amazing signature that set her apart from all the other telepaths in all of comicbookdum. It never should have dissappeared, even when she lost her telepathy and got upgraded by Jamie. It seems that most others think so as well....when you look throughout her career: Games, animation, movies, products--you see asian psylocke. Being a new generation Psylocke fan, I am more used to Asian Betsy, though I started collecting old comics featuring British Betsy ever since I became a fan. I must say that the writing back then was amazing. Like Giles mentioned, Psylocke is Psylocke no matter what body she's in. It just boils down to how well a writer handles her. Since the 90s, though, most writers haven't done it so well for her. That, I think, is the reason some of the "old geezers" (:P) hate Asian Psylocke.

I agree that Psylocke is Psylocke no matter what. Both bodies are Eurasian anyway (one more European and the other more Asian). I grew up on Asian Psylocke and I may be partial to it BUT I went out and collected back stories to read more about her history. Many people just rely on wikipedia nowadays, but it was fun for me to actually get the issues that gave me more information on her history.

I came to love British Betsy just as much as Asian Betsy. Whatever form she ends up in doesn't matter to me. The only thing that matters is that her hair stay dark purple (or the purple that was used in XXM) and she keep her ninja skills. :biggrin:

Now, if folks are reading between the lines of Yost's comments to ascertain 'the truth', that's one thing; but nowhere is it expressly written that this was a mandate from Marvel to restore British Betsy. Moreover, given Fraction's comments to CBR about Psylocke's return, it sounds as though he had the option of bringing back British Betsy but decided to go with Asian Psylocke - a move that Yost, et al ultimately supported because they considered her to be the definitive/modern version.

To be honest I started reading when I was about 10 and Joe Mad was the artist. And I never really even paid attention to race at all so I never thought about Psylocke's race (just like I never realized Storm was black watching the Animated Series). People would recognize Psylocke for her costume or her purple hair but she's usually drawn similarly in the face as most of the other women and only specific artists drew her distinctly Asian. That's why I felt she could have stayed in her original body and just worn the same costume if she still needed that familiarity or whatever the excuse was.

As far as the marketability concept goes, I think it's just been a longstanding internet rumor since Claremont supposedly said he wanted to bring her British body back which was allegedly the reason he killed her Asian side off so early in Xtreme Xmen. And Marvel was trying to instill the "dead means dead" Jean code therefore prolonging the whole thing. And I think CC eventually said he wasn't allowed to bring her back British because of the issues with changing a longstanding marketable ninja version who's already been converged in all different types of media. I have a feeling Fraction wouldn't have been able to bring back a ninjaless Betsy if CC wasn't allowed to do it anyway.

I disagree. When I think Psylocke I think Both. I PREFER British version because I knew her from the 80's. So it may be a geezer thing . But I think what happened is Psylocke went asian at the "Right" time. That's all.

Many people I know young and old know both British and Asian form, with their own preferences. ALL of us Brit body fans ( generally speaking) Hate what was done to her. We didnt mind the switch, we hated the characterization after the Genosha saga. As lady mandarin she was AWESOME.

Psylocke has always been a B or C-lister even at her popularity height. She then became background fodder, with catchy quotes and sex poses. THATS what I didnt like. Sexy outfits aside.. I hate other things in regards to her.

She is still my favorite Heroine though.

I would imagine that the garter belt is going to be the same signature blue/purple as it was in her ninja suit, the rest of the costume will most likely match that. The X's on the pencils could either be a second color or a shadow, although that much shadow would mean her outfit looks extremely shiny.

I'll have to wait for it to be colored before I decide, but another artist's rendition would be good too.

I was imagining the same blue being used, but on the collar and sleeves it would be a dark purple like the one used for New Exiles.

Really nice coloring .LuckyStar. It kinda looks like a female (and way hotter) version of Cyclops' costume.

I really like the collar and cleavage but not so much for the hot pants. Reminds me of her X-Men:The End costume. But it's cool seeing Dodson paying a tribute to the Jim Lee's costume.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the costume would works better with long pants..
And oh.. I also really like the way Dodson draws Betsy with an attitude. Reminds me of her winning pose in the Marvel vs Capcom game.

She could be a female Hawkeye in the X-books, minus the Hawkeye codename

Agreed. I like them as friends too. I'd rather see Betsy with Cyclops, Colossus, Havok or Gambit than with Kurt.
