The 90's was a time when comic fandom started booming! Asian Betts was there and that was the only reason she is "adored", noticed, and marketed more. If the switch never would have taken place then she would have been marketed as such and gotten the SAME EXACT TREATMENT.

The only thing I agree with is that Asian Betsy actually could fight. How can you berate Brit Betsy for being devious when Asian Betts did the same thing to win fights. She used tp tactics to win fights like when she clouded the Acolytes minds the only difference is Asian Betts had the psychic knife so she often got in close. Brit Betts had the psycho blasts so she didnt have to. Your argument makes no sense. They did the SAME THINGS just in a slightly different manner.

the body betsy is currently in is more asian then the body kwannon died in.i found it rather interesting that kwannon was dying in a body that wasn't hers.i personally felt kwannon had every right to reclaim her rightful body.

But it was stated in-comic, and numerous times on this very thread that the bodies were infused to more or less resemble each other. So even if it was originally asian its now more eurasian than anything. Of course Kwannon had the right to want to reclaim her old body but she's dead so oh well.

I love both British Betsy and Asian Betsy. I'd probably even love her if she became a man.

When Psylocke joined the X-men, she struggled to find her place in the team. She earned her place when she was willing to sacrifice her life for Moira, Sharon Friedlander, the injured Morlocks, and the injured X-men by facing Sabretooth alone. She provided key information to the X-men about the Marauders, whom they knew nothing about. As time went by, she showed leadership abilities and always worked with the team to defeat their enemies.

She was manipulative in her tactics and not beyond suggesting someone be killed, whether they were an enemy or not. She found her true desire to be a warrior and a protector after the X-men were taken to Horde's citadel and she shed her skin to reveal a body of steel. She sacrificed herself to save Storm and soon worked on her physical liabilities by donning high impact armor to protect her in battles and in training she worked more on using other skills besides telepathy, such as her cape. She even fought Jean hand to hand during Inferno when she could've easily taken her out.

Slowly, Betsy became more aloof and mysterious. All the battles the X-men fought were hardening her personality until she ultimately manipulated her teammates into the Siege Perilous to save them from being killed by the Reavers.

The transformation of her body and the training she received from the Hand further darkened her personality. She still used her telepathy to deceive others with illusions, mind controlled when necessary, and found a new use for her powers, the psychic knife. Except now, she no longer needed armor because she could protect herself in battle now. Having the reflexes of a ninja combined with telepathy made for one hard to hit person.

I see the Asian transformation as the end of an ultimate journey. Psylocke got a form to match the inside of her soul. She was often underestimated in the British body because they saw a "classy, stuck-up English broad" and when she became Asian she was a "deadly Asian ninja".

So I'm with Psycwave in that British Betsy and Asian Betsy did the same things when it came to using deception, just in slightly different ways. British Betsy relied on telepathy more, which was strong enough to stalemate Sinister for a while (just like Emma did in Messiah Complex before she was distracted and ultimately blocked out by him) and Asian Betsy relied on her physical skills more.

What went wrong for Betsy is that writers started forgetting that she had other skills besides the psychic knife. Not to mention the flirtation with Scott.

I don't hate Kwannon, and I was initially excited at the possibility of her returning when Domino told Wolverine that the body was taken.

But then I started getting iffy on the whole situation because I think of both bodies as being Betsy. Revanche was one of my favorites, but at this moment I think her time has passed.

I dont know man. British Betsy maybe couldn't fight. But she did beat up tons of people using her brain power. Asian form Betsy when she was first introduced used her head alot more than her fists even though she could. She still an ass whippin like a man back then also. This is AFTER the change to form.

Lets see, that harrier chick took it to her.
Matsuo took it to her.
Overshowverine took it to her... I actually Wolverine back then too. Patch = Win.
Mandarin took it to her.
I mean she maybe could fight more, doesnt mean she was automatically some superhuman powerhouse wiping the floor with folks. They kept it realistic.

Similar male with fighting skills > Betsy (Anyform). It was near suicide for her her to fight someone near as strong as she was. Same with Any of them.

These are some very good points! I hadn't thought of the "consciousness transfer" thing as related to telepathy ... I just figured it was more of the amorphous nature of the psy-knife at work. It seems to be able to do everything, even dispel magic?

I never did get the telepathic transfer of the mind into another body, though. The mutation is based on the genetics (DNA) of the physical body, right? If that body were to die or be rendered comatose in some way, there would be no way to draw on the physical abilities of that body. Telepathy is still rooted in a physical attribute.

As for "telekinetic psychic" ... would her precog abilities fall under that same umbrella? Maybe her telepathy hasn't returned, but they'll revisit her pre-cog powers.

I actually adore Psylocke as a telekinetic. I mean not as much as a telepath but the teke has its uses. Hopefull we finally get to see some teke butterfly shurikens!

I had my hair purple in late 2007. My hairdresser had me as a model in one of her hair shows and it was badass! My hair is already dark naturally it had a purple hue to it.

Of course after while it's difficult to maintain so I just dyed my hair back to black since it was turning brown.

your unwanted commentary aside. the bodies were shown to look identical but one to look more british and the other to look more asian. just because some artists fail to draw psylocke asian looking doesn't mean shes no longer asian. some colourists have coloured psylocke with blue hair, does that mean her hair has always been blue?

She is currently Eurasian. I think some Marvel High up wants to "Try (Epic Failed), to satisfy both factions. Again Epic Failed. So he makes her look like a woman with mixed parentage now. So whatever she started off as, she's no longer drawn that way, and will probably be no longer drawn that way.

i honestly don't think her powers make any sense. Fraction probably just glosses over it. it just seems to be a way for her fist to look cool as she punches someone and misses.

Well the psychic knife that was used during the Sisterhood arc when it was used on Dazzler and Betsy herself it struck like it was originally intended to do. It left Dazzler dazed and it fried Betsy's mind.

So I don't see her TK katana being used again, if it was we would've seen it and we wouldn't see a real katana in hand whens he could just manifest one.

She was seen in issue 99-ish sending out a telepathic message with cerebro when the mansion was attacked, she hasn't been see since and pretty much the whole school died in the attack so she might be. I'm still pissed that Northstar might be dead to think about it though.

When it comes to psis, pretty much almost anything goes. Emma Frost has been known to shoot psychic blasts from her hands a couple times during her days as a villain. She also created a lightning bolt from psychic energy in Generation X.

Dani Moonstar can create a psychic bow and arrows and once even created a dagger when her powers were depleted. She's also fired psychic bolts from her hands.

Jean has created giant birds of the same energy too.

Psylocke's psycho-blast was very unique, but it was mental energy that produced physical force and sometimes heat, in addition to already frying the mind. Then you have a telekinetic katana that actually cuts real things, but yet when used against a person, it acted like the psychic knife?

I think it's just best to try not to make any sense of it all. :smile:

The one significant difference and advantage that Forever has over Uncanny is that we don't have to worry about corporate needs. The one great disadvantage with Fantastic Four or with X-Men or with Spider-Man or with any book in the mainstream Marvel line is that the characters must be preserved for Marvel's sake. But since these characters are being preserved in Uncanny, they can be altogether frighteningly mortal in Forever, as we'll be demonstrating fairly early on. The fact is, if a character is unlucky enough to die, it's a real thing and it isn't corrected a week later. They won't come back. There are consequences and from that basis everything proceeds.

No I think you're right or at least the possibility of her being British in Forever is highly likely. CC hated the body swap and in his plans wasn't Betsy supposed to eventually return to her former appearance? I also like that she's still a telepath in the Forever universe.

This book looks to me like New Exiles 2. I have no interest in other versions of Betsy, saw quite enough of them (getting killed) in the Exile title. I agree with you CmX, did the Slaymaster thing really need to drag on for twenty issues? Did the hints of her return (by her brother) really need to drag on for thirty issues? CC's starts were good, but when he started to drag on his storylines on and on, it just became tiresome.

As Lady Mandarin and for a while after, she did an awesome job of balancing her martial arts with telepathic illusions, mind control, mind probing, and the psychic knife. In much of the 90s it became a one-trick pony and it was boring.

But during her last stint as a telepath, she used her astral form, mind probed, telepathically assaulted Wolverine's mind as the Horseman Death, and eventually used her knife to break Logan from his brainwashing. Balance is the key.

I actually LOVE Forever. Its got some of that old C magic and the first issue was a really good read. I was highly impressed. It doesn't matter what Betsy is in it the stories are actually entertaining.

It showed how merciless she could be by inducing a stroke in his host and the look on his face as she leaped towards him was epic. Shame she was unable to deliver the finishing blow before Heather plucked her away.

The only thing that CC did good for Psylocke in the last ten years was getting rid of the crimson dawn tattoo. Everything else, the God damn telekinesis, flying (wtf jesus), the screwing of Neal Shaara, Creed, joining Exiles and missing out on years of stories. Leaves me bitter. Oh well it's over now so I should look at the pros from here on out.

No, it's past the point where Ray became R'Chel, that's what I was getting at. This takes place after Bishop and Kurt escaped from the looks of it, and Ray was all scales by that point... besides, LM should be invulnerable to telepaths anyway. :D

I barely got 511 today. I'm glad I read the spoilers for it. She was so harsh to Dazzler haha. The only good thing I can say is I like British Betsy's hair color a lot. I can't wait until there's a new writer on Uncanny. I wish Land would have drawn Psylocke's consciousness as a British vs. Asian Psylocke fight instead of whatever the hell that was. It would have been cool.

That makes sense. I'm hating the idea of her with the X-club less. Partly because I kind of love Madison Jeffries now. But I think Betsy could play really well off of Dr Nemesis too they both have such dry sarcastic senses of humor.
