Psylocke Appreciation Thread

No it's just that Marvels Writers have dropped yet ANOTHER ball. I mean seriously how hard is it to catalog your characters, their changes and their histories.
That way when future writers come along they know how a certain character is.
When you have the history of the X-men, and their pasts. You should KNOW them, and what they can and can't do.

Just like what they did with Psylocke and her precog power??
She had precog flashes in X-Men #5 and there's not a single issue after that we ever read about the precog power again.

Actually me and my friend had a bit of an argument regarding that topic (Kitty being a ninja). I insisted that Kitty was not one, while he said that Kitty once possessed by Ogun (a master martial artist) and became a ninja.

Turns out, I was wrong.. but the thing is.. I had never read anything about Kitty being a very good martial artist. Any issue/mini to recommend?

Funny though, for Claremazons they haven't interacted that much...

Let me present a what if scenario: What if Spiral decided to undo Betsy and Kwannon's situation? What if Spiral decided to resurrect Betsy's old body and return Betsy to it and Kwannon to hers? Both women remembering all that has transpired through their life (lives) but in their own bodies. The end result being Kwannon back in her body with her original mutant abilities which I do believe was Empathy? And Betsy in her own body with her TP and TK. Would this be acceptable in your eyes. I actually like the idea.

So much for a Psylocke one-shot! "Sword of the Braddocks" should be simply called "New Exiles #19" because as of the end of this issue they all are still together and nobody went home (except BakaRogue and FishGambit). CC even added Valeria Richards to the team. LOL

Sabertooth has been sparring/practising with Betsy since Exiles #95 and they've grown closer since then. So it's like 35 issues since the first time they met (Exiles #90).
I'm not for or against the pair. My problem with what happened in NEX#18 are:
- The execution was soooo bad and lame. What's with the comparison with the animal mating season. It's so gross and degrading...ugh.
- The series (Claremont Era) is ending and CC seems wanted to give a happy ending to everyone. And Betsy happy ending is 'mating'?? Ugh.
- This pairing thing won't go anywhere past this issue.. so it's pointless. Unless Sabertooth will also be in the One Shot and got killed protecting Betsy.

I totally agree that both were poorly executed.

But I just think Betsy-Creed was much less random. CC planted the seeds from the first time she joined the book.
We've been 'warned' about it since New Exiles #1 where Creed sounded a bit jealous when Betsy had a nice conversation with Mystiq. He also flirted with Betsy when he gave her a tallus in the same issue.
Creed also kissed Betsy in NEX #3, secretly watch her back when Betsy fighting Lady Mandarin psyche in #13, and took care of her after fighting Slaymaster #17.

All signs lead to the WTF moment in #18.. Not to say I like it. It's just not as random as some might say.
I hate it cause it's being executed poorly, grossly and (as Tazirai said) very much Pointless.. CC could end the series without the pointless sex scene. But he chose to did it anyway..

So.. the main story gonna be less 6 pages than expected.
I love the story in X-Men Unlimited #47. It's one of my favorite recent stories of Betsy and tells her friendship with Logan.
I never had the chance to have the copy (only read them online). Guess this is a bargain for me :smile:

And if they're really bringing British Betsy back, I just want two things:
1) Please get rid of the lavender hair. Purple hair is iconic! Plus British Betsy had purple hair back in the day too!

This March, she'll be in the one shot: X-Men:Swords of The Braddocks.
The one shot will be her solo story about wrapping up some of her unfinished-exiles businesses before going back the 616.

Second question:
To be frank, this one is a hard one :D

Personally, I'd recommend:
Uncanny X-Men - The New Age Volume 4: End Of Greys TPB, collecting Uncanny X-Men #466-471
It's not exactly a story that focused on her but she's featured in it and I really enjoy the story.

If you must read her first appearance since ressurection, you can read:
Uncanny X-Men - The New Age Volume 3: On Ice TPB, collecting Uncanny X-Men #455- #461
I have to warn you that many hated this story mainly due to the Saurian and R'chel. But you can find some nice interaction between Psylocke-X-23 and Psylocke-Emma Frost.

House Of M: Uncanny X-Men TPB (collecting Uncanny X-Men #462-465) is a fun story about Psylocke-Captain Britain-Marvel Girl dealing with the House of M in Britain. She lost her sister in law (Meggan) in this story

Lets be honest Psylockes Hay day was the 90's and the height of her ninja popularity. She's not on that level of popularity anymore. The right hand crew that loved the hot Ninja chick, hasnt seen the Hot ninja chick in moons.
SO now may be the right time to make a change.

Hell even her appearane on Wolverine and the X-men she was hardly Asian looking. More Eur-asian, and was definitely NOT a ninja.

Thunder thighs.. LOL.. Yep.. I actually don't see Kristin Kreuk as Chun Li. She's more like eurasian Psylocke IMO.
I've heard that the movie is not a good one, but also heard it's way better than the first Street Fighter movie (the one that has Kylie Minogue acting as Cammy)

Interestingly, Kristin has quite a similiar background as Betsy.
Parents from different culture (psylocke is half alien anyway), has University degree, early carreer as model and trained as gymnastics.

Just as cgar said, Tom Lennox (the guy from S.T.R.I.K.E) and Betsy were engaged once.. so she must've loved him very much..

But, on panel, I think her relationship with Warren (Angel/Archangel) is the most memorable one.
They didn't become lovers from the get-go. There were story building up to the relationship. There were dramas, sacrifice and struggle in their relationship.
They're both rich, had issues with identitiy and very good looking person.

It's very touching when Warren gave a portion of his soul in order to save Betsy from death.
They haven't meet each other since she was resurrected (at least on panel). I really looking forward for their interaction in the future issues on Uncanny.... or X-Force.

I really hope so.

KL is a wonderful city! And I completely agree with you about Petronas! During cloudier days, the spires disappear into the upper reaches of the clouds; it looks very ethereal. I also remember the botanical gardens there, monkeys were running around everywhere like cats!

I love Bali, it's the most visited tourism spot in Indonesia. It has really nice beaches, lots of clubs, cafes and you'll find lots of Japanese tourists there :smile: . Bali is also called the Island of Gods since the people there are very religious and you can find lots of Hindu temples there. The native people there are also very nice and helpful IMO.

Yep.. Fraction has admitted that Uncanny has been a sausage fest LOL.. He also admitted that he had thought that he wouldn't enjoy writing the X-Men but now he's really excited in writing them .
At least he realized his problem and put up a direction for the book.
I think his first two arcs of Uncanny were more like trial and error for him and he tried to write a 'safe' and generic story. I'm really looking forward for the Sisterhood story, and by that time I hope Fraction has put lots of his passion in writing the story.

Tiger Airways is actually an Australian airline I think. But Singapore/Changi is their major hub airport. I will try to look at Airasia airfares.. I will probably need to convert Singapore dollars to yen :smile:

It's quite funny everytime we celebrate the New Year, all the national TV air 3 times the celebrattions, starting from the east side, midlle side and ends with the biggest celebration in the west side of the nation.

I really hope Fraction or future writers do Psylocke justice.
It's been quite a while since we had an amazing story about her. I really miss that.

About Psylocke, I want to ask where she is currently? Because if she is making a comeback then she is dead or away from the X-Men?

As in the final series of New Exiles, she's currently in the Crystal Palace- the Exiles headquarter. It's the place where they monitor the problems that's happening in he Marvel Multiverse.

Actually she could easily go back to 616, via the Crystal Palace's transport system (bare in mind that currently Sage has merged with the core system of Crystal Palace).
But.. before going back to 616, she has some unfinished businesses to solve.
An AU Slaymaster still running around the multiverse/omniverse. He has been responsible for killing various AU Betsys.
Betsy spared his life in NEX #17, but apparently he intended to kill her instead.
There's a one shot (X-Men: Swords of The Braddocks) to be realeased on March 25th focusing on Betsy dealing with Slaymaster and possibly explain how she's going to be back to 616.

Some of us suspect that she will be killed in the one shot and to be ressurected in Uncanny.

I really hope Fraction or future writers do Psylocke justice.
It's been quite a while since we had an amazing story about her. I really miss that.

I doubt that they would make Emma a villian, she is recognized as one of the popular female characters now and making her a villian means limited use of the character probably.

But Psylocke, I think she will have a good comeback.. there is attention on it now I think.

As in the final series of New Exiles, she's currently in the Crystal Palace- the Exiles headquarter. It's the place where they monitor the problems that's happening in he Marvel Multiverse.

Actually she could easily go back to 616, via the Crystal Palace's transport system (bare in mind that currently Sage has merged with the core system of Crystal Palace).
But.. before going back to 616, she has some unfinished businesses to solve.
An AU Slaymaster still running around the multiverse/omniverse. He has been responsible for killing various AU Betsys.
Betsy spared his life in NEX #17, but apparently he intended to kill her instead.
There's a one shot (X-Men: Swords of The Braddocks) to be realeased on March 25th focusing on Betsy dealing with Slaymaster and possibly explain how she's going to be back to 616.

Some of us suspect that she will be killed in the one shot and to be ressurected in Uncanny.

Yep.. Bali and Lombok are in Indonesia. You really have to go there on your next trip, x_g and maybe you too eurazn!
I love Bali, it's the most visited tourism spot in Indonesia. It has really nice beaches, lots of clubs, cafes and you'll find lots of Japanese tourists there :smile: . Bali is also called the Island of Gods since the people there are very religious and you can find lots of Hindu temples there. The native people there are also very nice and helpful IMO.

I had Shadowcat mistaken for Rictor at first
But then realized, here's no female version of Rictor
and I noticed the phasing. It would have looked better if:
- Guy Storm had the White Lee-Era costume
- Guy Rachel had the hound costume
- Guy Psylocke had a male version of the Lady Mandarin outfit
- Guy Rogue had the hooded outfit
- Guy Polaris had a variation of the purple outfit with the cape, minus the cleavage
- Guy Kitty wore the blue Excalibur costume, have a swashbuckling look

But Fraction also said that at the end of the day, everything will be alright..

I can understand why they would depict her as Asian in all the other alternate universes after her transformation in 616 (namely, consistency), but the circumstances leading to her body swap were not the same in the Age of Apocalypse universe, for example ... unless she is DESTINED to be Asian in every alternate reality no matter the timeline, I suppose.

I think it'd be more fun to see her alternate reality counterparts varied.

I just read some of Pslocke-related Wolverine issues and found out that she could use her telepathy, using cerebro, eventhough it's been said that her telepathy was gone (due to her fight against Shadow King in Psi-War):

I really enjoy reading the the Wolverine part of the story.
It's interesting that Kitty, Jubilee and Betsy played in important role in recovering Logan's sanity.

I think they deliberately made Betsy a newbie telepath in the cartoon. There's even a scene when she doubted her ability in controlling Nitro.

It's funny that Cartoon network put up a poll asking who's the better telepath between Psylocke and Emma, where it's obvious from the cartoon that she's easily got her ass handed down by Emma.

It's certainly not impossible. She does not look incredibly Asian, there. Although that may be down to Casey Jone's art style more than anything else.

Technically, it was a nightmare which Brian had. It may have been nothing more than a dream. But as Brian had been shown experiencing 'future echo' visions, ever since he escaped the timestream, I think it's fair to speculate that there is an alternative universe where it DID happen. Probably one where they all lived through it at the end, too. That's the wonder of Parallel universes. :biggrin:

The Betsy-Warren dynamic was always fun for me. Mainly because I only started to like Warren when he became Archangel. I like to believe Betsy brought that fun light side to his angsty dark persona he seems to have had during those days.

Another thing I like to think about is what would have become of the Havok-Psylocke relationship during the Outback days had it been explored more.

Got this over Comicvine, regarding Psylocke in X-2 movie:
Psylocke's name can be seen on Stryker's computer as Mystique scrolls through it. Also she is seen in the novelization, she's at a fashion show when Dark Cerebro is used on mutants. Sending her into a coma. After it is used on humans Psylocke is seen awaking from the coma and using her telepathy to see what is happening.

I totally missed that scene!!
Loved the script in the novelization that shows that she's still into the fashion world.

I've totally written off X-3. that was in NO WAY shape or form an X-flick. even with the title. It's not just the fanboy in me screaming bloody murder. But X-3 was just to catapult a Wolverine movie.

I know that they're suppose to be very close... But I'm just getting tired of Betsy and Brian reunions.. It's seems repetitive at times..
Why not making them in the same team? It'd be great to see how the siblings cope with various problems and flesh out more about matters in their family.

I basically want to read about a Psylocke who is written as a character,not as a power-set.I hate everything that has happened to her since the Revolution run(from the power-swap with Jean,to her separation from Warren)and if they ever decided to turn her to telepathy again,I hope she would keep the actuals,let her skills stay in peace and then just focus on writing her,rather than making her the means to save the day.
