I am talking about the characters' first appearances that were well-written and entertaining enough for you to enjoy time and again.
The debuts of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy, Iron Man in Tales of Suspense, Thor in Journey into Mystery, Doctor Strange in Strange Tales , X-Men in the X-Men #1 (Sept. 1963) and Black Panther, Galactus, Silver Surfer and Him (later Adam Warlock) in the Fantastic Four volume 1 series were among my favorites.
I think that the first appearances of Batman, Barry Allen/Flash, J'onn J'onnz/Martian Manhunter, Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom, Legion of Super-heroes and Captain America could have been written, drawn and executed better. They were all mediocre stories written poorly and drawn blandly.

Well......my introduction to ANY comic book heroes was Jules Feiffers "The Great Comic Book Heroes". God I loved that book....( and still own a copy of it today). Thats where I first read Plastic Man.....but I loved all those stories.

I can't argue with the first appearance of Galactus, Black Panther or Silver Surfer.... but I'd add the first appearance of Medusa...even though the concept changed a bit... and, the first appearance of Gorgon... and even Black Bolt....heck, make it the entire royal family of the Inhumans...
Those were the glory years!

Along similar lines, I always liked the Introducing cover where an established character introduces a new character.
The most famous might be the one of Batman introducing Robin.
Here's another one:

I got a copy of that book when I was around 10-12. It was my introduction to quite a few characters, most notably The Spirit. A great book.

I think that book was first published in '65 or close to it. I was young too, and my dad checked it out at the library for me, prob around 1969 or '70. I guess I owe this madness called comic book collecting all to my father.

Ill have to go with Silver Surfer and Galactus. They were introduced in a great way.

I guess to follow the guidelines of this thread more closely....I'd have to say Plas' introduction was pretty boring. He didn't even make the cover cept in one of those little "also columns"....that shows a pic of their face. It wasn't until issue #5 that he graced the cover. That was the issue where he smoked pot. Wonder if the editor was smokin pot too and decided it was a good match? :D

The first issue of Invincible brings the word "perfection" to mind, as does the first issue of Rick Remender's The End League.
Reptisaurus!

Well, not to be TOO obvious...
But I really like the first appearances of Cheeks the Toy Wonder and Reptisaurus.

I would consider the intro of Invincible's dad as a bad guy (issue 11?) as another great.
Also:
Morpheus from Sandman #1 was very nice, where he's a prisoner of that weird rich dude. And Death's first appearance in issue 8 was golden!
Jessica Jones and "current" Luke Cage in Alias #1. Two of the greatest of today's mainstream characters in any universe!
The way Ellis introduced Ultimate Galactus (or Galaktus or whatever) was pretty cool - not even knowing that's what it was leading up to at first. Great surprise!
Calista from Powers #1, especially since her eventual importance isn't realized by the reader until much later in the series. And she's funny as a little kid!
Many people were pissed afterwards, but the way in which Jenkins/Lee/Marvel introduced us to the Sentry was pretty clever (as the lost Stan Lee character).
Strictly for nostalgic reasons, but I remember thinking Cable was such a bad ass back in those Liefeld New Mutants issues where he debuted haha.
The Marvel Zombies (though we have been bombarded by too much of them by now) were awesomely introduced in Ult FF (how Reed and us readers think they're really the 616 FF - oh man that was such a sweet "whaaaa?" moment!)
The Adversary/Emperor character in Fables was introduced wonderfully! Such a mystery as to who he is, and then such a brilliant idea as a pay off!
Awesome thread idea!

Sinister's First appearance in X-men was kind of funny.
He had Sabertooth in a one handed choke while giving his maurders a lecture.
Venom's first appearance was shocking yet scary the suit created a mouth for the first time to talk. You didn't know it was brock yet so it was like WTF!!!
Ultimate Mad Thinkerer was insane finding out what she did to her own sibling was a shocker for me.
Seeing Ultimate Cable at the end the page bringing out his claw had me go woah.

Well, I could see a trade including FF #44-48 (or at least half of 48, with skillful editing to stop the story at the right point. Then, at least the five 8 page installments of the Untold Tales of the Inhumans from, what, Thor #146-151 or so... and the first 8 installments of the Inhumans 10 page split book from Amazing Adventures #1-8. That would just about round out a Marvel Masterworks in my book... but I'm not sure how many more of the Amazing Adventures when they took over the book existed... 2, or 3? Oh, and I'd include the one FF Annual that they dominated instead of the Fantastic Four... #6 was it, which featured the original appearance of Psycho Man...

The introduction of Elektra in Daredevil 168 was pretty cool.
Of course, the introduction of Galactus and Silver Surfer was awesomely executed.
The Swamp Thing presented in # 21 (The Anatomy Lesson) was pretty much a new character, so I would add that one too.
Some non-favourites, by the way:
Thor in Journey Into Mystery 83. (Although the "is he, or isn't he a real god" idea was well used in The Ultimates.
Sandman in Sandman# 1. (I simply don't buy the idea that this cosmic character can be captured by using occult rituals.)

The Hobgoblin's first appearance & origin in Amazing Spider-Man #238, complete with that great cover of a cloaked-in-shadows Hobby ripping the Spider-Man costume apart.

The Inhumans' stint in AA came to an end with #10, after which the blue-furred Beast debuted.

The Inhumans' stint in AA came to an end with #10, after which the blue-furred Beast debuted. By then we'd already had Medusa's solo Marvel Super-Heroes appearance, & a few years after that came the short-lived (10 ishes?) Inhumans title.
Without resorting to the GCD (which I'm not up to doing right now anyway, since I'm at home from work with a cold & am on slow dial-up) I know various other Inhumans made solo appearances here & there -- seems like I remember Triton wrestling with Namor on an earlyish Sub-Mariner cover, for instance -- not including, of course, Crystal's stint filling in as an FFer while Sue was on maternity leave.

Triton's guest staring role was in Submariner #15, I believe... or just around the Human Torch story in #14. I had forgotten the Medusa appearance just after Capt. Marvel's original two appearances.
Medusa also guest-stars in a silly Spider-Man issue about #62... motivated by a soap advertising guru...
Crystal starts filling in for Sue in FF #81 and more or less continues through #93, more than a year...
Any others that I've missed? I doubt it. It seems like Marvel didn't know what to do with these guys after they rescued Reed in #62-63...

Although neither the title nor the character rank high-up in my favourites list (but I do like both), the casual walk-in introduction of Valerie Smith in the mid-1960s into the Archie Series associate title Josie ( later Josie & the Pussycats) is very momorable for me. From that almost forgotten entrance, Valerie grew to be a strong and important figure in Josie stories.
