The Stepford Cuckoos were a very original idea, from one of the greatest X-Men runs ever! They allowed Morrison to humanize Emma quite a bit by (basically) making her the mom-figure for these spoiled quintuplets with similar powers to hers. And the hive-mind idea was cool!

Quite possibly. Because Generation X "Minus One" was supposed to have been after she ran away from her parents place. Her series still featured her amongst her family. Thus, it would take place before it.
Then again, I agree with the thought that the continuity on that series, and much of the White Queen's continuity is damn near fubar'ed when you factor in Gen X "-1".

I'm thinking that series sold primarily by the poor lonely boys lured in by the cover art. I was hoping for some stories about how Emma fell in with the Hellfire Club, but never got there. Instead, it was Emma vs. Astrid, Emma dealing with family dysfunction, and Emma wuvs Ian the gambling addict (with no surprise retcon of her meeting Gambit).
Really, kind of a letdown in terms of content, especially when it doesn't jell with what we know. But somehow, it made it into the teens of issues before cancellation.

As for the continuity of Emma's mini, the Gen X -1 issue could fall between the second and third arc of her mini as she left home at the age of 15. And Deadly Genesis occurs possibly right after the Astrid Bloom thing.
1.) After the first arc (15 year old Emma leaves home)
2.) Second Arc occurs
* Emma dyes her hair between the second and third arc therefore Gen X -1(16 year old Emma) could have occurred between those two arcs.
3.) Third arc occurs (Emma goes to college -Astrid Bloom fiasco.)
* Works in the Hellfire Club while also going to college. (X-Men 1.5 formed)
4.) Meets Shaw
* Takes over the Hellfire Club
5.) Phoenix to Dark Phoenix
* Emma goes to Rehab
6.) Storm Body Switch (Retreat)
7.) Mastermind -Comatose Emma
8.) Emma Breaks out - Kidnapping Kitty Pryde
* New Mutants vs. Hellions etc Leads to Grey King
9.) Attack on the Hellfire Club (Death of Hellions)
* Psychic Coma Emma
10.) Emma wakes up - (Iceman Switch)
11.) Gen X
* Death of Gen X-ers
12.) New X-Men
* Psychic Affair/Shattered/Death of Phoenix
13.) Present Day X-Men
Finaly, Emma wins something!
Closely followed by Lady Mastermind though..

Fact: Dark Beast came back in time 20 years ago.
Fact: Emma Frost met Dark Beast at 16.
Supported Speculation: According to all involved parties (including your letter writer), Emma met Beast just after he came from the AoA.
Logical Conclusion: Emma was 36 during GenX and is logically 37 now, hence her hacking off ten years for vanity in Morrison's run - which fits her character.
The letter you posted doesn't even have her age right (saying she was 20 when she met Dark Beast, but she was 16), it then says she met Dark Beast shortly after his arrival from AoA (which he says was ten years ago, but it was 20) he then says this makes her around 30. Which still doesn't fit your 26. Letter columns were often a contradiction of a lot of different information. If we went by the letter columns as canon - Monet would NOT have been Penance.
And her mini IS a mess of continuity. Where does this fit into her teenage time of possessing that insane asylum guard and escaping from said asylum. It's just doesn't quite fit.

Fact: Marvel's Sliding Timescale does not allow for 20 years to pass after the FF4 became got their powers. That's a huge chunk of that cut down.(See OHOTMU Alternate Universes) Which is why the editor said 10 years Marvel Time.
You missed the line of "Marvel Time" (Marvel Sliding Time Scale). He said the meeting was 10 years back. He said she was around 20 it's off but that isn't incorrect as he said about. She was 16. 10 + 16 = 26.
Second Letter references her between 25-30.
Marvel > Your Speculation.
Simple she lied about the insane asylum. But there's certainly a story to be written after Astrid Bloom where she could go back and murder everyone in her Brothers Ward.
The main point is more to address that Morrison did absolutely nothing wrong since Marvel considered her 25-30 back in Gen X. You can call it a retcon if you like, you can say you don't like it but way back in Gen X they considered her 25-30. Just to reiterate Morrison was right.
Lets get back on topic because there's really nothing more to address.

This is ridiculous. Beast came back 20 years ago. Not ten. Marvel time. Not our time. Sliding timescale in place. Pre Fantastic Four space flight. Thats the whole point of the AoA, that Apocalypse started his bid for power early because he saw Xavier, Magneto and Legion duke it out before the super powers began to pop out of the woodwork. And that letter's page person said she was around 30, sure. But John Byrne and Chris Claremont have separately put her much older than that they created her. So, we can grab whatever random facts we want from whoever. I'm just going by the canon presented.
And why would she lie about the asylum? Its more likely that her series was some psuedo elseworlds type series than anything else. It has had NO effect on Marvel continuity since.

Look at it this way some time during that 20 years the FF4 went into space and got their powers. Time becomes compressed after that. So a huge chunk of that 20 gets compressed. That's why the writer said 10 years Marvel time. The reason Marvel Game is due to a reality warper outside of 616 compressing time. Otherwise Jeans Tombstone cough*

But DB came back before the FF - there is no need for any sort of compression at all. And yes, Claremont never established an age (unless you count Emma calling the X-Men "young people" which I think DOES establish an age for the character) - I was talking non-canon off-panel talk from the creators individually, which is as reliable as a letter columnist in terms of canon.
I understand the desire for Emma fans to put her in a more "accessible" age for themselves, but the character has never, ever been written as anything other than older and more mature than the X-Men. I'm being generous in saying she was in her early 30's in the Dark Phoenix Saga.

Time compression still occurs though even outside the FF flight as stated in the OHOTMU and they mention Nick Fury who was around during WWI etc...

An ambigious off hand comment that could be down to Emma's snarkiness. As it was contradicted by CC's "You still have the youth of a goddess" line.
The age of heroes occurs 10-15 years ago. But time compression is still present keeping Nick Fury alive.
Marvel even stated that the meeting takes place 10 years Marvel time. What those pieces of text tell us is that even in Gen X they considered Emma to be between 25-30. Way back then.
I have nearly all CC's interviews the X-Men Companions etc and I haven't once seen him reference Emma age. In fact there's very little of Emma mentioned. And in UXM #152 they even said Emma still had the youth of a goddess after she lost her body.
Without Time Compression Jean wouldn't be around 28/29 either.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5944/phoenixuntoldstory53no2.jpg
Again call it whatever you want but Marvel Considered Emma 25-30 in Gen X. Just to clarify though Morrison was actually following continuity that was firmly established in Gen X. And if it was a retcon it occured in Gen X not New X-Men.
I honestly really don't care whether you call it a retcon or not. As the fact of the matter it doesn't make a difference because Marvel have firmly reiterated their stance on the matter.
I think this sums it up pretty well. The main point is it wasn't Morrisons doing. And that should at least be recognized as it's really unfair to the writer.
I think Emma is 15 years old.
And all the proof doesn't really matter.Sage got retconned into being O6, Team 1.5 got retconned, Emma is now younger, Magneto wasn't Xorn. It happens..accept it and move on.

Emma is just too fierce a posh bitch to ever get taken down.
Now all she needs is a blunt razor cut with the angularity, lose the square Summers, more platform boot action, and she's uber.

I never said Morrison retconned it, I think he was going for Emma sees herself as younger than she really is. Claremont mentioned Emma's age on some message board and some point in time when someone brought it up (as did John Byrne on a separate occasion). I still believe the line about "youth" from Shaw in the body switch issue is more telling her what she gained then what she possessed - A "though you lost your powers, you still gained youth" sort of thing. And they never referenced a time period in those Dark Beast issues (the point of the sliding timescale) but an actual physical number of years that he was in the past. Just like Xavier was in Egypt 20 years before regardless of what year it was or does that make Xavier now in his 30's too because of this sliding time scale? Because twenty years ago Marvel time is twenty years ago. Its the dates themselves that change.
Well, I'm out on this. Its a pretty goofy debate.

It's just bogus, really. I'll never get the weird Jean fan-Emma hate. They're not mutually exclusive. It's not like they've been inseperably linked, ala Dazzler and Longshot.
It just comes off wonky.

i liked Emma in the New Mutants and Generation X series. she seemed about 30ish in both. i just can't imagine a mid 20s Emma serving as "mentor" to Iceman and being more experienced in the use of his powers. maybe it's my age bias showing but i find her "younger portrayal" less sexy. it also makes her harder to take seriously (imo). she's a "queen," not a "princess."

Lobdell said she was 29 during Gen X. Now she is in her early 30's. If I had to make the ultimate choice, I'd say 32. Marvel goes through tons and tons of retcons so to me it doesn't actually matter. I just like to go by current continuity.

The scans on the previous page.(Gen X#31 and #34)
Was also looking through my Gen X issues in order to find whether or not Cordelia's powers have ever been cited. But I stumbled across her age. Cordelia Frost is cited as just turning 17 years old in present day Gen X time.
If we use Slungs logic and take it that the meeting with Dark Beast took place 20 years ago. Emma wouldn't know that she had a 3rd sister. In fact her sister would be born 4 years after Emma left home. And Emma wouldn't know much about her since she never would have met her. (And this is only taking Gen X continuity into account)
Got to love the Gen X writers.

Thank you for being so mature about this.
I'm NOT trying to make her look bad. I think she's way cooler being an older mature woman in her mid thirties whose had lots of experience with first being a villain and then a hero. Why such vehemence?
I make some digs about Emma being skanky as a joke, but this isn't me trying to make her look bad. Her history, to me, paints her as a much older character. And I'm not the only one who thinks so.
This has NOTHING to do with Jean. Or my so-called hatred for Emma.
I actually *shock* like Emma in my comic books. I loved her and Jean's interactions in New X-Men. And if I was writing X-Men *shock* I'd want her on the team I was working with.
I don't always like what they've done with the character and I disagree with some of the needles retcons, but I don't hate her. And what really gets old is being told that because I think Emma should be older I hate her. Whatever.

Dazzler all the way on this, excluding the pink shot putter era of course.
We all Emma would be one of those hideous L'oreal puppets, who get wheeled out to the public every now & then, extolling the virtues of a cheap hair dye by saying the all time craptastic line "because I'm worth it."
And considering her Jurassic age, I would imagine that she must be considering going for the "blue rinse" look any day now, like many 70+ women do. Maybe she could consider a tone of blue which matches Scott's costume....that'll be nice.

Nothing at all... in fact I like concept of the pairing even more when Emma's the more, erm, experienced partner actually.
In a wierd way, Emma's dynamic is almost like Jean and Xaiver rolled into one. If that's not Scott's fantasy fuck, I don't know what is. :D

I really do not care how old Emma is, but in my opinion, when she first appeared she somewath looked like a mature woman...
BUT
Even since she has been retconned twice
The first retcon saw her as a tenager beggar in New York when Sean was already a policeman... that means she should be at lest 10 years older than Syrin...
The second retcon saw her joining the Hellfireclub as a teenager dancer, being around 20 and fully into a cocain-and-alcohol induced rage when she fought the first time against the X-Men. This second Retcon puts her as Sebastian Shawn pet-proyect, something that was not in her original portrait, where they seemed to be equals...
So in my opinion Emma has been retconned into a younger version of herself, and the only time that we have seen her age printed, and it is thus cannon, is in New X-Men, after riot in Xavier, where she was 26 or something like that.
So this is her age now...
Also Scott has been "de-aged" (I remember the issue when he told Jean, while they where in Annandale-on-Hudson, that he was "only 25") and I do not see anybody crying...

With the HFC dancing thing, her exact age was never specified. I prefer to think that between all the surgeries, the telepathy and the secrecy that Emma's age is an enigma which is known only to her - you can interpret her comment in NXM as an ironic statement or a disclosure - it's up to you. So Emma could be 28 or she could be nearing 40 ... nobody actually knows and it's not a big deal either.
