The first of a two-part interview I did with editor Nick Lowe. Today we talk Astonishing X-Men, both the end of the current run and the beginning of the next, plus much more.

No, it's tomorrow. But it's about Runaways, not Astonishing.

Anyway, looking forward to the one with Runaways tomorrow.

Interviews about books that never come out? That's sad.

I know! It's such a shame to be deprived of such a wonderful male specimen!
Me too! I'm addicted to that book.
Right? I just re-read Whedon's issues so far and it all makes more sense like that, since I got a little lost with all the new characters and the delays at first.
I still don't see what was the point of bringing the Kingpin and the Punisher in, and I'm not thrilled with what he's doing with Victor... but that might be Nico's ancestor doing. I have no clue what the final issue will bring, but surely some changes for Chase and Nico are coming.
But I guess I shall wait until tomorrow to talk about that book. :p

Nothing personal against the guy but, yeah, the whole interview comes across as one giant ass-kiss.
"no one does Cyclops better than Joss and John"
"As for me, I think it's definitely up there. It's my favorite X-Men story that I've read since I became an X-Fan in the 90's. I've read all the biggies, but this one had me twisting and turning, cheering and crying—it's true, I'm a big pansy. There were always parts, little bits, of those classic stories where I would say, "Okay, this is awesome, but that one part was weird." I think this is the most consistently excellent X-story ever."
These quotes just make me go "really?"
I mean, Astonishing is good but it really isn't THAT good.

It's not ass-kissing. The book is very good. At least when they say Astonishing sells out, I actually believe them.

I'd imagine if he said 'Joss and John's Astonishing is good but not THAT good' he probably wouldn't have his job much longer.

Are they even allowed to do that with current stories...?

I think the stuff about Cyclops is dead on. I think about 85% of what they are doing with Cyclops is thanks to Whedon and I think Cyclops now is much better then he has ever been.
Whedon run on AXM is one of my fav i would even say its in my top five.

Thanks Ben
Astonishing has just been awesome, aside from the delays.
GOD I hope Kitty doesn't die. I had a friggin dream the other night about watching some weird X-Men episode or movie or something in which Kitty's parents were killed and then something happened to her too and I was watching it bawling my eyes out!! I can't take it!
Eagerly awaiting the Runaways interview - I'm SO ready for it to get back on schedule.

I have the feeling that if she doesn't die, Kitty is signing on with the Peace Corps and being sent to live in the Breakworld to teach them to use condoms and to oppose genital mutilation.
Runaways. *YAWN*

Well, [Runaways creator Brian K. Vaughan] had told me he wanted to leave the title. I begged and I pleaded with him to stay. He said he wanted to go out at the top of his RUNAWAYS game and wouldn't stay. I begged more. He told me he'd already done 42 issues and I shouldn't expect more. I pleaded more. He slapped me a few times and I realized that was it. So I started thinking…who could write it? I didn't think there was a chance that Joss would want to write an arc. But I thought, what the heck, so I asked [then-editor] Mike Marts to ask him. He did and Joss said, "No thanks." The next week, it was eating away at him. He talked to Brian all weekend about the book and then he wanted in. That's the story.
LOL, well I'm glad he didn't leave without someone putting up a fight!
LOVE YOU NICK LOWE!

Nick Lowe just needed to be more persuasive with Vaughan. :p
I am so not looking forward to a new memeber, I dislike Whedon's new characters. Especially Lillie and Klara, which seem the most probable to join...

They should change his name to WWWWWHHHHHEEEEEDDDDOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNN. Every thing he touches at Marvel seems to become extremely drawn out and incredibly late or sporadic. I do enjoy the stories, but the pacing between issues is horrid.
