Wow! I overlooked that...I've never bought one of those statues, but I will happily get this one. When they've done this kind of thing before--translating a particular comics artist's work to 3-D--I've usually had a hard time seeing the hand of the inspirational source in the final product, but I am seeing Aparo's Batman in this one! Thanks a million for drawing it to my attention, Kan-Man!

Too bad they couldn't think of a way to have little lines coming out of his head for that real Aparo touch.

(Don't get me wrong--I love Aparo's Batman)

Man, if they ever did something like that with a John Severin Sgt. Fury ... or, heck, a John Severin anything ... I'd probably have to break down & buy a sculpture for the first time ever. Little chance of that happening, I'll wager, & just as well, according to my wallet.

It didn't come in June, but I've finally got one! Thanks again for alerting me to this, Kan-Man. My wife Dana let me get this for our 11th Anniversary present (Nov 22), and it just arrived today. I can report that I am not disappointed in the least! I've seen a few of these statues and figures supposedly based on the work of familiar artists, and I've often struggled to see the resemblance to the source, but not so with this beauty! I'd have never dreamed that Aparo's work would translate so faithfully into 3-D. My heartiest gratitude to the sculptor, and to DC for making available such a gorgeous tribute to one of its most under-served talents. I really wish Jim had been able to put one of these on his shelf.
Oh, and the actual statue is painted *far* better than the advance photo seems to be! None of those crudely painted shadows in the thigh muscles or ribs.
Now I can only think how nice an Aparo-inspired Phantom Stranger statue would look...
