And despite the fug cover and costume, Exiles sounds like it has an interesting world that's being visited for once... it reminds me a bit of Empire, the Franch series drawn by Igor Kordey (it's a spin off of sorts from Hidden History, and it's an alternate reality thing, what if Napoleon never lost at Waterloo, with the britains and the french making their move into India and Asia-Minor...)

X-force on the other hand, even if it's just a one-shot, has me bored out of my skull. I'm too old for that kind of juvenile crap, I'm sorry to call it that, but apparently X-force just revolves around a nineties-like mentality without a comic-code to temper it. So it's characters who are all feral and "cool" cutting up bad guys who nobody cares about, and they're doing it while looking constipated.

And ANOTHER new status quo for the X-men in Uncanny X-men... is someone keeping the score, I think this is the third time in two years now...

Well, it's a new team being formed through a major event, but from last weekend's interviews they do all seem to have their own reasons for being there, and their own issues to deal with. Cornell certainly does seem to have a lot of stuff worked out.

In theory, as with Excalibur, you have the perfect opportunity here to tell stories which are self-contained, using a whole imprint's worth of revive-able past characters, but also a book which can just as easily tell an international perspective story when a brand wide event occurs, if there is a story worth telling.

It's the best of both worlds. I'm reassured enough in the stuff that has gone up on this site over the last month to have confidence in this title taking the right approach.

I actually think if they had 616 Magneto doing something like Cyke is doing right now to protect mutantkind right now they could have a top 10 book as long as it includes lots of action and fights.

Magneto holding Xavier's hand as Charles remembers his past isn't quite that interesting for fanboys looking for blood, gore, and sex. That said even I would be much more interested in seeing Mags take proactivate measures to help mutants other then just Charles.

Of all the books I've read in the last five years to have changed direction Ultimates 3 is without a shadow of doubt the worst, most soul-destroying, creative cock up of them all. I know we complain about the X-Books getting creative changes, but Loeb has utterly destroyed one of the best comic book runs in years. And yet it sells because of fan worship for the artist.

Why do I suspect we'll get bloody Liefeld for Ultimates 4... :(

I know we're living in an age of instant gratification, but at least wait a story arc or two before you throw in traitors, three issues in and there's barely a shock because we as an audience haven't had time to bond with the characters properly.

And casualties... please just wounded people, and not death... this isn't New-X-men... or X-force.

As things currently stand, covers for (New) Exiles are being handled by Michael Golden -- and, if I do say so myself, are quite lovely. The other nice thing to bear in mind is that, great as these first pages are, Tom gets even better as he goes along.

Second Grummett ark takes place in a world where the Washington was defeated trying to cross the Deleware, Britain won the revolution but lost to Napoleon. The British Monarch lives in North America, sharing the continent with the Indians -- oh yes, and even though it's 2008 the Atlanteans effectively interdict the establishment and deployment of any modern military technology. So, military tech is essentially frozen on or about 1800; anbody steps out of line, the Atlanteans shut down all access to -- and use of -- the oceans by the surface dwellers.

However, super-heroes (and of course, villains) have existed in this world since 1602.

Hopefully, an interesting time will be had by all.

Having read the interviews on site last weekend I think I have a good speculative theory as to who will be claiming the sword.

I have a theory too. I actually think that maybe Faisa Hussain might get Excalibur, it would explain how she gets her powers early on. This is only speculation though.

I've always been a little excited for this book, but the solicits/covers haven't excited me until this month so its a plus plus plus for June.

I love how Dust is just headed straight at you in the cover. Watch how a girl in all black makes a bigger presence that the giant rock dude!

Hmm an X-Force one shot? Maybe Crain needs an extra month and they're pulling a Tbolts?

Yost has said several times that there were already a couple of X-Force one shots in the work, ala Thunderbolts.

It's pretty obvious that art of Crains quality isn't gonna make a consistent monthly schedule and so yeah, we are gonna get one shots instead of the main series occasionally.

I'm not too fussed although I hope it's not gonna be too common place. I don't want to be waiting til 2009 for new team members! Plus the one shots should really be more substantial than "Wolverine slices up a load of people". Hopefully the Warpath story will make it worthwhile.

The X books sound pretty good this month.

Looking forward to Gambit in Legacy. Intrigued as to what X-Factors new direction will be.

Not liking the sound of the Young X-Men solicit too much but I get the feeling that things will begin to fall into place after this issue and the series should find its footing. Whether it'll be any good or not we'll just have to wait and see. I'm not at all excited though.

As much as I loved what he did for New X-Men I don't think I'd ever pick up a book I wouldn't normally read just for the artist. But the more I think about it, the more I'm envisioning it..! When's it start? I think I'd enjoy something like that more in tpb form mind.

I'm still saying Val's a Skrull. That's why X-Factor ties into Secret Invasion. With Val being liaison to so many government agencies, who better?

Yeah, I was always hoping for something along those lines. But I like Barnell in New Warriors too.

Uncanny looks interesting simply for the expected build-up to #500, even though there's a tad too much Wolverine on the cover. We got enough Logan covers already. I want to see more of the rest of the team. And I demand a Hepzibah cover drawn by Choi.

Legacy: Could be good, could be boring. It's hard to judge. But I'll get it for Carey and Karima.

X-Factor: Sounds promising, even though I don't like the cover.

X-Force: Wolverine solo one-shot? Yeah, right... pass. Call me again when it's about the team again.

Young X-Men: Another solicitation that fail to excite me in any way for this title. I'll wait for word of mouth when it's out to judge if this is going to be any good. So far it looks like fail to me.

New Exiles: My eyes hurt now.
