I believe there were some skeptics when I said that X-Force would be the #1 book the month that it launched.

*Ahem*: http://www.newsarama.com/marketreport/Feb08sales.html

Great job by Kyle, Yost and Crain! Keep it up.

Congratulations, guys!

154K that is insane. When I started reading comics I think the number one books used to top off at 110K or 112K. I would never have believed it. Holla!

The writers deserve it.

The Legacy numbers suck IMHO for a first issue. Legacy did a tiny tiny bit better then Buffy and didn't break the top 10. It will be interesting to see how large the drop off is from the first to second issue for X-Force and Legacy.

Again, Legacy didn't have 2 variant covers either. It had 0. It also wasn't a #1 issue.

X-Force had a regular and a bloody in a 50/50 split, and then a 1:25 variant. ;)

It didn't sell 154K. It sold 154% of the amount that Batman sold. Assuming there was merely standard attrition in Batman's sales from the January numbers, that means X-Force sold around 104,000 copies.

Wait, is the index based off Batman or Detective Comics? I always thought it was the latter.

Regardless, great job on X-Force guys! I was pumped to discover Bastion was the villain. Now just bring in Omega Red and it'll be the best book on the stands bar none! :D

It's based off of Batman, except in months when Batman doesn't ship. Then it's based off of Detective Comics.

My problem with Legacy is that I have no clue what it's supposed to be? A throwback to classic X-Men? A continuation of Carey's "X-men"? A combo? Neither?

That's what's probably killing it, saleswise. No identifiable hook for the prospective buyer.

I would say you are certainly on to something there along with the art being subpar.

Even I have no clue what the point is other then to go down memory lane with Xavier. If the series is just about going down memory lane with Xavier then basically Magneto and the Acolytes are just props in the story to further the main plotline focusing on Xavier's past and Xavier's memories.

If Marvel wants an almost guaranteed top ten book they should let Magneto form his own version of X-Force to defend mutantkind made up of Acolytes and some X-Men in limbo. Rachel and Lorna easily could join such a team. They could let Xavier stroll down memory lane at the same time in Legacy.

Its clear to me Marvel has little to no idea at the moment what to do with 616 Magneto. Thus, Marvel is pushing tons of Magneto in the Ultimate universe to make up for it given they know they have to promote him somehow because of his movie coming up.

None of that had any effect on the book. Again, X-Force had variant covers and a new #1.

Had X-Men: Legacy been a new #1 also, it would have gotten a larger sales boost also.

Or it could just be the fact that no one wants to read about Xavier in a coma. That concept + Eaton on art = a sinking ship sales-wise. X-Force will stay strong. Legacy will plummet. Count on it.

Yeah, I mean the variants are a boost, don't fool yourself. But one has Clayton art and deals with action and blood. The other is with Eaton (which although very enjoyable, isn't the most exciting) art and is about Xavier's memories.

Poor Carey needs a new book.

It sounds like it will move away from memories to some action in the June solicit.

Even I have little enthusiasm about Xavier in a coma remembering his past while Magneto holds his hand.

Now Xavier and Magneto getting together to form their own mutant fighting team to defend mutants with characters like Rogue, Lorna, Rachel, Bobby and the Acolytes as regulars would be interesting and would pull in strong numbers.

Eventually they would come into conflict with Cyke's teams, but that would just help make things even more interesting.

Congrats to everyone working on the book. They earned it!

As for Legacy, is a book mostly for hardcore X-fans whose concept didn't even made most hardcore X-men fans be very interested, so it's not a surprise. Even if it's a good book, sales will fall considerably.

If Carey had Amelia Voght teleport off Exodus's HEAD, he would sell over 100K easy.

Great news for C&C, they finally got the top ten place they deserve!
