So, now that Emerald Hell is out and in the public's hands, do we have any idea which novel is next- (i.e.- title, synopsis, cover art, etc.)? I really like these little chunks of goodness, and would hate to see this line end w/out hope of more.

I haven't read a Hellboy novel. Which one would you recommend for my first?
All of them, no special order, :D

Well, I'd start with Unnatural Selection, then Emerald Hell, then the rest of them....but that's just me. :D

So far, my personal favorite was God Machine.

+1!
Although Lost Army and Bones of Giants are right beside it on my favorites list.

Well.......Joe Lansdale [I have sort a, half a wish on this score. Check out the next Hellboy short story collection] and Howard Waldrop. They have a, kind of cock-eyed view on how the world turns [an invaluable gift for writers].

This was posted on Mark's site on March 14th. (http://www.markmorriswriter.com/news.htm)
I've also seen the cover for my forthcoming Hellboy novel, The All-Seeing Eye, which is a beautiful piece of original artwork from Mike Mignola. Again, as soon as I'm allowed to, I'll post the cover on the website.

As to who I'd like to see write the next Hellboy novel? I wonder what Stephen King is doing these days? Hey, dream big, right?! :D

Hmmmm interesting, I on the other hand would like to see Dean Koonz dabble a little, but he is not a Myth type Writer. But I'm sure these two can come up with some real doosies.

LOL...he was actually my second choice, but I figured since neither esteemed author is likely, I'd go with the biggest and most well known name of the two. :)

No specific writer in mind, (stumbling on this thread's title I was thinkin' topic-wise - - that's me though: always stumbling) though I hope for lots more cool folklore.
I would really like to see 'Native American Elders' popping up to guide an adolescent Hellboy - slightly lost in his coming of age and being full of wanderlust, Big Reds' pre-destiny looming to the forefront like some terrific soul creature found to be defied? Embraced? Etcetera...
I would like that. I think. :o What would you like?

Here some scratchin' to elaborate my previous dreams on HB's 17th, drenching himself in Leadbelly and Native American lore.
I call this 'Hellyouth' -note the semi-horns (as an uncertainty issue like acne) sticking thru his bonnet, grungily  . (:o ?)

i like the ideal of a Hellboy book based off of Native American lore. you can have him go on a dream quest, and encounter legends like the Thunderbird or a Wendigo. that would be interesting.

John Connolly handles myth pretty well, but then so does Neil Gaiman and Susanna Clarke. I think that Stephen King has lost his touch for writing horror, and if Anne Rice were to write Hellboy, she'd probably make him gay, which would never sit well with the fans.
So far, my favorite Hellboy novelist has to be Christopher Golden, though.

I don't mean to offend anybody, but Native American folklore bores me to tears. I don't know if that is because the folklore itself is dull, or because it is usually handled blandly. I think it is probably the latter unfortunately.
I would love to see a writer dable into Icelandic folklore, as there is a new horror movie about Meathook the 12th yule lad, who is on the prowl for fresh meat, and that hook looks mighty tempting for a Hellboy novel.
have a look for yourself

It most surely must be the latter, Pimpernel. I came across a Hopi genesis tale in which mankind asked Death through a mocking bird if they could live in the world. Death [Masuwu] being an old man sitting in front of an old shack with two black lines painted under his eyes over his nose. He was full of scars and wounds and wrinkles hid away his eyes to twinkles. He replied the mocking bird's question dim but willingly: "Well, if they wish".
Now I think such would make for a pretty cool HB-story. I of course shouldn't try to demonstrate but let's :p :
As soon as setting hoof atop the mesa, Hellboy felt his trenchcoat flap in a tight cool breeze. The vastness of the gravelly flattened mountain was astranging, lying in the land like some ancient arena, a forgotten Yankee stadium only bigger and more imposing. Where at dead centre an old man sat in front of a tiny hut, like fast asleep with his head on his knees, a small bird escapading busily overhead: "Careful! Careful!"
"So old man, you still here?" Hellboy stood right in front of the old man, who hadn't moved a muscle. "As are you, my young one."
The old man spoke slow and steadily, careful rather than feeble-sounding, calm though not soothing as his voice lacked any sense of comfort. As if more eager to speak from truth than for knowledge. A voice most familiar to Hellboy. Although he was unsure whether he sought its wisdom.
The old man's head came lifted up slightly, tilted from the bony knees under dustridden cloth, enough to make out two thick black lines painted underneath his glancing eyes sunk deep away in their sockets.
"I was never one for travels or horseback hunts. How man would seek such venturing is beyond me. But you ......" (turn page :D )

Nicely put that. To which I would, quite open-mindedly albeit blatantly have to agree.

Aesthetically, I don't see much difference between Native American and African folklore. They are both very "tribal" and "shamanistic". African folklore has already been used to great effect in the Hellboy story, so why not Native American? I would love to see Hellboy involved in some Hopi myths, or Pequod myths, in a story set within an Indian reservation, in a casino. I can see it now...and they'll call it "The Manitou of the Black Jack Table."

Well it's got Abe in it so that's a bonus already.
The Golden Army novel comes out in June for those who like to read the movie before it's released. I normally don't but I think I'll make an exception.

Hi everyone, Amazon beat me to the splurge description. I will as best I can describe the cover,as I don't posses a scanner.....Hellboy title left side of cover [yellow], vertical from bottom to top. All the action is on the right side, hellboy facing slightly right 3/4 view towards us.A skull and a square picture diagram of an eye surrounded by incantations near hellboy's right hand of doom.Top right and behind hellboy, a horned demon. The layout of cover very similar to ''Emerald Hell''...... All the best..[Neil saw the picture in a darkhorse catalogue]
