Some things have the possibility of greatness; some things end up having had the possibility of greatness. This is one of those things.

52 was cool, but I opted out of buying Countdown for budgetary reasons. From what I've read about the book, I'm glad I didn't pick it up. The best thing I've heard about it, in all honesty, is "this issue wasn't as bad as the last one," and, as much as that does demonstrate improvement, that doesn't really cut it in my book. And oh my goodness, a years worth of $3 weekly comics that eventually don't even lead into what you said they would? And that decision was due to the fact that nobody liked them? Shudder!!! (I've heard someone here eloquently say Ambush Bug was the reason for the difference, and I would agree to the point that I bet Giffen in general made a big difference...(I'm saying the man knows storytelling, but anyway...))

Grant Morrison is the light at the end of this tunnel, and my point is, let the man tell his story. Don;t let editorial dictate the plot points, dialogue, or story - just let the man tell his story.

And by Grant Morrison, I mean Invisibles / Arkham Asylum / Animal Man / Kill Your Boyfriend Flex Mentallo / Aztek (ESPECIALLY) / JLA (ESPECIALLY) / New X-Men / Earth 2 / Sea Guy...this amazing writer who has created great things, including dense portions of the DCU already!!!

I am looking forward to Final Crisis very much, and, I don't know, I'm drunk right now and this is my little rant haha (don't worry, kiddies - I'm over 21 and we had a designated driver!)

Point is: Grant Morrison (and JG Jones!!!) + the entire DC Universe = an amazing opportunity to plant some seeds that grow into mighty trees!!! (Especially with Geoff Johns as copilot/future pilot!!!)

Let the man tell his story. That;s all.

Easier version, tell a story, don't tie it into every other comic in a shared universe.

Have a writer, not a committee (OK 52 had a committee, but they were all geniuses).

And fans, if something ain't working for you, wealk away otherwise the publishers will never learn.

Exactly! But I've been incrementally walking away from the DCU more and more over the last year or so, and this looks to be a chance to walk back.

I don't get what you're saying? Because Countdown sucks you think Final Crisis will as well? You know that Morrison didn't write Countdown and that he has said that you won't need to have read it to understsand FC right?

Every indication that I've read in interviews relating to Final Crisis suggest that this is exactly what DC is doing. Morrison has a story and they're letting him tell it. It's not going to cross over into all of their other titles, although there will be a couple of miniseries running concurrently with the book, and there's a natural 1-month gap in the series which will see the release of a few one-shots.

I got Identity and Infinite Crisis and 52, but dropped Countdown after I saw all the tie ins involved, for awhile I was only reading all star books but I am psyched for Final Crisis and Trinity :D Any trade paperbacks I should pick up for the year I missed? I'm definitly picking up the sinestro wars hardcovers when I get a chance...

I subscribe to the weekly because it's a (relatively) cheap and reliable form of entertainment here in this "Green Zone" of Baghdad - that is, when I'm not dodging rockets and mortars.

It's been a rough week here. You can read about it here:
