My money is on Superman-Boy Prime finding an acceptable Earth and making it in his image of his perfect Earth. Anybody else getting that vibe?

I didn't really get that at all since he's not in the issue anywhere.

Nothing really happened in this one, it was so-so. Who's Jimmy by the way?

I have a feeling we've just been introduced to Earth-1.

Jimmy is Jimmy Olsen.

You know, I'm the type of comic book fan that believes if you don't like something, you should drop it. Don't complain with each issue's release; just be done with it.

That said, for the life of me, I can't figure out why I won't drop Countdown. It's probably because it's so close to the finish line that I figure, hey, something good has to happen soon, right?

In comparison to the previous issue, though, this one wasn't that bad. At least it felt like some progress was made, anyway. However, there were still frustrating lapses in judgment. Why, for example, didn't the Challengers stick around and try to explain to the League what was going on? They didn't seem like bad guys, after all. And how come Harley's "Puddin'" not knowing her was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back in determining it wasn't their Earth? Five pages earlier we were left to believe they had just been erased from everyone else's collective memories.

On another note, something I've noticed over the past few months: Beechen sure does love the ellipsis (...). That's not a critique, though, just a simple observation. Every book he writes seems to be laced with 'em.

Countdown sucks ass. I will keep reading it because I feel there will be a great payoff in the end.

Well, hey, good luck with that! ;)

So they wind up on Earth-1, the real Justice League thinks they're villains, they think they've been erased from everybody's memories (because that's the first, logical response I'd have after hopping around the multiverse), and hilarity ensues? Sounds amazing. So the Great Disaster's going to go down on an Earth that doesn't matter and everyone who bought Countdown for an entire year gets to feel shame and disappointment. Sweet.

Kyle was carrying around a guy with a highly contageous lethal illness without power ringing up a containment sphere of some kind...WHY??? After Atom saying they could all be infected, they split off into different groups like they're TRYING to spread it faster...WHY???

Nobody knows, especially not at DC. This new multiverse has become a mess rather quickly.

Countdown has seemed forced from the beginning! It was just produced based on the success of the 52 weekly series. However, why did DC not understand that Beechen/Dini/Palmiotti/Gray does not equal Morrison/Waid/Johns? I'm only remotely interested because it will flow into Final Crisis, which will hopefully be better with Morrison on it. Although, a human-history spanning story for DCU would take more than 8 issues wouldn't you think?

Countdown has been bad pretty much throughout, but at least New Gods has been good and Arena was also cool, if not forced.

I'm actually picking up the last 10 issues of Countdown, because I was expecting some huge payoff.

But all they have been doing is standing around talking in circles.

It feels like DC has given up on Countdown and are looking past it by setting it up for some next major event.

And the art is terrible.

I blame Keith Giffen.
Seriously, hear me out.

We know Countdown sucks, EVERYONE knows Countdown sucks, but we keep reading it anyway. And yet when the time comes to list off all the god awful things that make Countdown a turd, NOBODY says Keith Giffen.

I think he's some type of high power telepath, forcing us to keep reading yet erasing his own involvement from our minds.

Also, in the spot where they preview next week's cover, didn't they recyclt a cover from a couple weeks ago that they decided no to even use?

Contrats Countdown, not only do you suck so bad that you're getting retconned out of existence before you even finish, but you're giving me @#$%ing Deja-Vu!

Right on!

It's the same telepathy he uses to convince everyone that Dan DiDio is soley responsible for destroying "The Giffen League" and ignore just how much Giffen, Morrison and Johns (everybody's Golden Boys) have been responsible for what has happened to the JLI characters over the last few years.

His telepathy also keeps people who don't like it thumbing through it in the stores.... and keeps people who don't even do that much commenting on it.

Giffen is an evil GENIUS!!!

I still like Countdown, though. It's better than 80% of the trash from DC and 99% of the trash from Marvel.

I have yet to see how I would feel shame and disappointment if this did happen? There could still be a really good story there. At first, I thought this might be our first glimpse of the new Earth-1, but Didio has said that Earth-1 wouldn't be showing up until 2009, after FINAL CRISIS had wrapped up.

Besides, if Earth-1 is what I *think* it is, then the Earth we saw in COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS # 7 totally has the wrong vibe.

And... have they even done anything yet? Other than follow behind Jimmy Olsen like a bunch of mooks?

I dropped the whole deal. My view - if they come up with another Earth (1) which is the real deal and makes the current crew irrelevant - who gives a crap.

The multiple Earths, killing over some of the good Elsewhere characters, the stupid Arena plot - just a marking ploy.

I assume they took Jimmy to Apokolips...not that I recall the Hairies even knowing about the existence of the planet, much less having teleportation technology. Maybe they swiped it from this issue's JLA? Obviously the security on their tech isn't all that tight if an "enemy" can activate it--without, apparently, actually touching any controls--to transport himself and all his cohorts (without also transporting the JLA!) to a random location.

Who said they were on Earth 1? Going from the fact that the JLA's HQ is similar to the New Earth HQ, then this world could be almost, but not quite the same as New Earth and accomodate the changes mentioned.

There was a Blue Beetle in Countdown: Arena who was similar to, but not quite the same as the current Blue Beetle...Perhaps this is that Earth? 39 I think it was.

I thought DC liked distancing itself from Superfriends as much as possible.

That hasn't been the case for a few years now. Alex Ross' "Justice" series was an attempt at a "serious" Super Friends story. There was Giffen/deMatteis' "Super Buddies" story and currently there is a Johnny DC Super Friends title back on the stands.

so why has everyone ignored Zan and Jayna so much? They are already in the DCU proper...since Extreme Justice, if I recall properly...and their origin story was quite ok (and even let the door open for a legion of superheroes root there...)..they also showed up in one of the incarnations of the titans, albeit in one of those panels where everyone, including the kitchen sink was present.

i'd love to see them in action again, especially because gleek is nowhere to be seen. i even remember falling completely for the wizard april fool's which stated alex ross was writing "form of water" as one of those DC issues he did.

cheers,

Do I need to read !@#$ to know it's !@#$? Just scanning it in the store I can tell how godawful it is, and then hearing all these poor suckers complaining each week that their book is horrible pretty much justifies it. I don't need to see "The Simple Life" or "The Hills" for myself to know they're !@#$in' crap. And yet people watch it like they're getting paid to.

Countdown is the reality TV show of comics. Everyone knows it sucks, but they just keep readin' it.

Does anyone remember the resound Earth Prime didn't have any heroes? The was a character named Ultraa who was our version of Superman. He decided that becoming a superhero would cause too much destruction and left Earth Prime. So Earth Prime already had a Superman.

Why bring this up? I'm hoping Ultraa comes out of nowhere and takes out Prime.

But Justice was a huge hit for them.
And Marvel is currently retreading 70s and 80s plots from a cartoon-based series (Rom) with Secret Invasion.

And what Marvel is currently doing with Cap, Iron Fist and Daredevil is pretty much what DC did in the 90s with Azbats, Reign of the Supermen and Kyle Rayner.

The deah of Cap is a good story. The death aof Superman was, at best, a bad gimmick. Knightfall was okay, but I don't see how a massive, overhyped Batman epos can in any way be compared to an Iron Fist book.
