I was just reading Ultimate X-Men the Millar run, and the Millar run on Ultimates. Few years old yes but I must say just about the best writing in a comic ever.

Nick Fury was head of a new S.H.I.E.L.D, the X-Men were young and brash and fun, the Ultimates were a hard nosed military fighting force, and the brotherhood and various others were attempting to disrupt world peace. I think Mr Millar has my vote for greatest innovator of original stories with well known characters.

If you have the books, do yourself a fun favour and read them again.

Yeah, and now look at the two titles. But I retain the faith! Things can only get better!

I actulay dropped ultimate xmen afer issue 70, the stories just wern't entertaining enough anymore, and I just miss the Ultimates being a military force rather then 'superheros'

I skip thru em from time to time, I loved Millar's Clancy-esque techno-thriller take on them both and it's a sorely missed re-interpretation of Marvel's classic characters.

I still enjoy Ultimates 1 and 2, but I eventually sold all of my UXM books. After one read, I never cared to flip through them again. (I stopped reading after the mojo arc)

I actually liked Brian K Vaughn's run on UXM. I really like what he did with the classic characters.

I didn't like Millar's take on UXM. It was all about the promise of being new and cool, without actually doing it. Nice art though.

Ultimates, however, is Millar's finest superhero comic. Can't say enough good things about that.
