I think. It just seems like all that was originally needed was to bring in new writers. The set up for the chracters was perfect. Writers could add or ignore what they wanted. Writers have now spent years trying to bring back elements of that period. Superman has a Fortress, Krypto, Phantom Zone etc... but I guess for me at least, it would have been simpler to leave things as they were. Tough to fix now but....

I was happy with everything post Crisis. Somewhere the floodgate of nostalgia got opened and stuff started to trickle in. Then I missed the old stuff all together.

You seriously aren't alone in that even though I'm a post COIE guy myself. I believe they are steering the ship to the old IE multiverse soon enough. Maybe they will have a world for everyone like they did before.

I think streamlining it is good too. The beauty of the multiverse is that you could do both. Hopefully, writers develop favorite earths to write for and everyone will be able to keep up because the world's ID will be printed on the comic.

Heck, I wouldn't be against graphic novels with the best story from a particular earth after everyone settles in.
