Is it just me, or did they never have any intention to give the prize to him in the first place? He strikes me as being placed in for comedy relief but...... damn! The three designs he put up against Mr. 'I'm Passionate About Draping' knocked Rami's out of t he water!

What do you all think? Who do you think deserved more credit? Who should have won?

You mean Chris? I love Chris, he's a total sweetie. However, as much as I love him, I wasn't surprised that he was eliminated. He had some good designs throughout the competition, and his costumes, especially the drag stuff, is INCREDIBLE. He's very creative, and I love the over the top designs he does, it's very exciting stuff. However, when he tries to design regular, everyday fashion, most of the time it looks good, but just a bit dated. For me, it's not a matter of it not being innovative, because number one, I'm not so much concerned about innovation as I am about it just looking good, and two, he can do innovative, which we see in his costume designs. However, there's just something about his normal fashion looks that sometimes give off an 80's timewarp vibe to me. I think he's perfectly suited to be a costume designer for movies. He can make a name for himself in that field, and make a good living, which he can then use to put together avant garde artsy runway shows in Paris as a side hobby. Anyway, I wish him the best of luck.

I actually really like Rami's clothes for the most part. They're not that innovative, but as I said, I'm not very concerned about innovation, just that it looks good. And his dresses are very beautiful.

Ditto for Jillian. Her best work is her coats. They're beautiful, and always have some unique details.

Christian is a very talented designer. But I'm sorry, I fucking hate him. I was PISSED that he won. But it's not (only) because I hate his personality. Clearly he's the most "innovative" designer, but his line was still boring to me, and completely not made for people to actually wear. Also, the judges suck for knocking Chris for his "costumey" designs all the time, when Christian's whole line was pure costume, and they gave him the win! That Big Bird dress of his was ridiculous. At least Chris' costumes have some JOY to them. With Christian, it's like he's not in on the joke, and was trying to create "serious fashion." Blah. I just hate him. I should have seen his win coming a mile away too, I guess I just didn't wanna believe it.

YEAH! YEAH! HE was ROBBED!

Who the fuck is "he"?

Stoopit. ;)

Sorry, but Chris's final dresses with the hair and safety pins BLEW AWAY everyone else's. It was innovative, outside the box, interesting, had a fresh point of view, and definitely had a sense of fun and drama (you know, exactly what the judges said they were looking for), and yet, they completely fucked him over for pink and blue Euro-trash draping. Yet more draping.

I was so mad that Chris's fantastic designs for the Betty Boop flapper from the Addam's Family got dissed for just more boring Rami-ness.

I'd agree that Chris's designs from the beginning of the show seriously were awful and had this 80's vibe to it...however, from the Hershey's challenge on, his clothes were bumpin'. I think he REALLY grew the most of anybody for his time on Project Runway. I wish we had gotten to see his full final line. It was amazing. It was like he finally realized that he can do clothes that have a joy about them AND be beautiful. I honestly don't know that he knew that before that challenge. Now, I think he was the designer that should have come out on top. Out of all of them, his final designs were the only ones that truly, truly excited me and that I wanted to wear.

I agree with everything else in your post, though. ;)

For as catty as Christian can be personality-wise, I totally feel he should have won. Love him or hate him, the boy is talented. Julian was a VERY close second in my eyes, but the only drawback she offered was that she over complicates her design decisions and thus is always late with her work.

Rami's designs I don't really care too much for. Enough with the draping already. Sheesh. When the judges started oooing and ahhing over the black and white dress he made with his competition with Chris I was like, "OMG, that looks like couture from the 80s." He's a good craftsman but not good enough to have won Project: Runway.

I'm not sure why people were so freaked out over the human hair....I thought it was ingenious and looked amazing. And the safety pink skirt was awesome....not for the novelty of being safety pins but for the look and effect it gave when the model wore it.

Rami's stuff was good....but....just good. I liked it...but I forgot it once the episode was over.

Chris was robbed....but Christian should have one so it worked out in the end.

Remember who the judges are; mainstream commercial design.
Chris's work was innovative and creative, but niche design for a market segment not really known for spending money on couture.
I personally thought Jillian blew everyone else away, I find Raimi's work a little boring and Christian's work is good, but his final line was pretty one-note.
On the other hand, he's a kid and an amazing talent.
I'm glad Christian won, even if he can be a bit obnoxious, he NEEDED that win way more than the others did. I'm glad he's got a chance to grow and evolve as a designer. The judges were nurturing a great talent with their choice.
I'm not too worried about the others, Jillian is a fantastic talent and will be picked up to design for someone or get a backer, Raimi already has his own line and Chris is so talented and famous now that he'll get work in his design area.

If wigs and hair extensions aren't creepy, I don't see why Chris' use of the same material was creepy. I thought it was deliciously decadent. I thought it would be a pain in the ass and a HALF to appropriately launder the outfit. But creepy? Didn't see it.

I didn't love Rami's three looks. The coat was a great idea, but I think it just kinda 'flumped' on the model. I think as a fitted coat, it would be amazing, but it wasn't there. It reminded me of a Claes Oldenburg 'soft sculpture', and not in a good way.

His 'draped' dress was the weakest of his all season, I thought. I got really sick of his draping, but the bodice on this one? I hated it. It looked so contrived. And his third outfit? Well, it was appearently forgettable, because I've forgotten it.

Chris was, as one guest judge put it, the one with the most art; the most avant-garde. Which, hell; I like. I can see where it would be hard to make a ready to wear line based on the most brilliant works, but for unique creations, I would think he'd be a go-to guy.

As dramatic and eye-popping as Chris' entries were, in the end, they weren't fashion; they were costumes. He's an immensely talented costume designer and that's where his focus should be. Christian wouldn't have been my choice for the win, but I can't deny that his stuff is the closest to haute couture that the show has ever had and his looks were visually stunning - even moreso in person.
Jillian was my pick for the win because her collection was innovative while being very wearable at the same time. She's got a great future ahead of her and she just won 10,000 dollars in Bravo's online competition today.

I agree with your view on Christian but I would have liked to have seen more of Raimi (sp?). I loved the weaving on his jackets and that evening wear. That said, Jillian's seperates were great but I didn't think her collection looked like a collection.

I totally wanted all of Chris' collection. If you wear fur who cares about human hair. They were sexy and different.

You can see Chris' full collection here. (http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2008/fall/main/newyork/womenrunway/chrismarch/#/)

Apparently, to keep the final 3 a surprise, they had Chris and Sweet Pea show a line at fashion week as well (you can find her line in the link also). They just didn't air it on TV, since they were out of the competition. I'm glad that they had the opportunity for that kind of exposure though.

word. her line owned both chris and rami's...i seriously believe that PR hates women and i would love if someone could explain posh spi...er victoria beckham to me...just why?? that's all i want to know...and as far as chris, i loved him and of all the designers he impressed me the most because he showed a real range as far as going from camp to classy and although it was creepy, those hair pieces were pretty amazing.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the show hates women. I think by now, it's becoming very obvious what the judges want. They don't want well-made, beautiful clothes. They want "innovation," even if the looks aren't particularly wearable or attractive. Every past winner so far has been "off-beat" in some way. They obviously eat that shit up. I guess I can see their reasoning. They want to find something "new and different." Still, it pisses me off that the designers who create beautiful, interesting clothes that people would actually want to WEAR are not rewarded.

As far as Chris' final collection, the hair was an interesting twist, and they really are well-made, nice looking clothes. I think my main problem with them is the choice of fabric and color. The dark shades of velvet and satin read as too "obvious" to me, being that he was going for a chic goth look. I think that if he had made different color and fabric choices, it would have made a huge difference in how his work was received.

i mean as far as female designers...season after season female designers are passed up in favor for less talented male designers...but i think an overall industry thing...

In a broad sense, the fashion industry tends to be male-dominated. Not that there aren't powerful and lauded female members of the industry, but like so many other fields, it's the men that tend to get the most attention. Of the 4 PR winners, one was female and that probably breaks down roughly to the ratio of successful women to men in the industry on a whole.

that sounds about right...i always thought that interesting as well as in the culinary arts...it's just funny how these very gender oriented areas in a basic social setting flip when they become profitable or industry based.
