I think Riley's the most likely suspect, though given that we're talking about Joss Whedon's plot twists, that probably means it isn't Riley.

As to why... maybe his wife got killed in some horrible way by some mystic critter, and this built on his tendency to already distrust magic.

Maybe his wife became a Slayer and it ended his marriage...?

And once again we see the great advantage of having this comic book reference the continuity of the show and have direct involvement from the writers. Long after the actors have moved on to other careers (Clea DuVal is doing pretty well for herself isn't she?) the comic can revist these characters and plotlines.

As for Twilight theories, seems to me it's almost the polar opposite of the First Evil, which was a return to primordial magicks. The involvement of the army must be a fakeout - it's not the Initiative-style villain, they're a patsy. Which leaves.....hmmm

I would love it if Mrs Rosenburg was leading a revitalized MOO as the main antagonist ;)

Mothers Opposed to the Occult. LOL.

It's a better acronym than Fathers Against Racy Television.

*Futurama reference. ;)

It's so blissfully stupid, that it just might work!! :D

I don't know. It would seem the only girls who were potentials and ultimate became slayers were girls going through puberty. I think once a potential reaches a certain age, they're relieved of the responsibility.

They could still have their powers activated though, right?

Dammit. I'd really like a Granny Slayer to kick some ass.

yet during the finale, Buffy, Faith and the newly-empowered Slayers mow through them pretty easily and with only a few losses, while Xander, Robin, Andrew, Dawn and Giles survived fighting a few of them (along with a bunch of the Bringers), losing only Anya in the process - and she was killed by a Bringer.

Just watched the last three eps of Season 7, and yep, watching the non-slayers holding their own against the Chaka Kahns was pretty badly executed. Bringers I can understand.

I just want everyone's opinions here; who might Twilight be?

My opinion is he's not anyone we've ever seen before, and Joss only hinted he might be so he could do the "sorry, itchy neck" joke.

I can't see him being Twilight because, outside of him suddenly gaining magic powers and Buffy-hatred, he's not talking like Riley would (or acting much like an angry Buffy-hating Riley). Based on dialogue and actions, it could be Giles, but he was in favour of the "create an army of Slayers" plan and there's no given reason for why he'd so dramatically turn against it (especially as he's involved in training them & has influence).

Joss Whedon is on record as saying the Ubervamps were deliberately weaker in the final episode as part of the "girls get empowered" metaphor.

Unfortunately Joss, that doesn't stop it being a shite scene.

A summary/partial transcript of the Buffy reunion from last weeks Paley Festival. Some cool stuff in there, a few little tidbits about Season 8 and other stuff.
