Good to see certain characters back. :)
Oh... And isn't that the same someone who put Roger in trouble in the Plague?
Edit:
My mistake, of course...
This story is scripted by John Arcudi
thanks Khan...such a great tale so far.cannot wait for the next installment;) The Francisco Velasco story is cool too.

The positives first. Love the comic story developing thus far. Love that we're getting new Guy Davis art outside of the usual comic release window. Love that my favorite BPRD characters are back in action, outside of the current comic continuity.
The negatives next and last. It's been said that the devil is in the details, and here I posit that some presentation technology tweaking is in order. First off, for the love of God, please put the 'next page' button at the top of the page rather than the bottom!! There's a special joy in flipping the page of a traditional printed comic book and allowing that first image of the next page to wash over you- top to bottom, left to right, as is tradition here in the US. When the viewer is forced to scroll back to the top of the screen to see the next page, you've already spoiled that effect and lessened the impact overall. Next, the option to print high-quality images of the pages would be nice (via right-click, save, or whatever method is best). I'm sure this is just my limited knowledge of how to print Flash files peaking through, but I'll allow for that if someone can tell me how to print these images effectively. Lastly, digital presentation may be the wave of the future, and I heartily clap DH on their collective back for being at the forefront, but it still leaves something to be desired. Nothing beats the immediacy of a comic, the portability of a comic, and the collectibility of same. Right now a website doesn't comfort the soul like a printed comic does, therefore digital presentations like this are still light years away from taking the place in this fans heart of the 'real thing'.
That mouthful having been said, this digi-comic installment of BPRD is still very worthwhile, and I await further installments with rapt interest!

I am delighted to see Dark Horse do this!
I stopped buying comics decades ago. Partly because I was burned out on the same superhero genre over and over and partly because it got more and more difficult to collect the artists I like... It is easy to tell the comic shop owner to pull every "starman" issue, impossible to say just the starman's that Harris does. And don't even think about asking for something as open-ended as "any comic that has interior art that Mignola did".
Now I wait for the graphic novels and I know that I am missing a bunch of cool stuff that may never make it to a novel format. And for new stuff, I rely on my friends' recommends.
Now Dark Horse is making it easily accessible and is teasing me into buying their products at the same time. Congradulations to them!
To Neil's point, I would love to see all these shorts collected into a graphic novel at some point...

Oh, I'm definitely not arguing that this format has merit, and many advantages for those who don't frequent comic shops. As with anything, I just feel that there's room for improvement and slight tweaks which, if implemented, could do nothing but enhance the experience for the reader.

It's not very intuitive to put the 'forward' button at the top of the page, particularly when most users will have to scroll down to finish reading it. Much more intuitive to put such things where people can find them.

With respect intented and zero rancor (tough to sell in this medium, I realize), I disagree.....for this format. Yes, it makes sense that a "next page" button would be at the bottom, as that's where your eye ends up after having read the page, however, the eye must travel back up the page to the top once a new page is selected, thereby potentially spoiling whatever images or dialogue your eye is about to feast upon. Now, you may have a quick trigger finger that allows you to scroll back to the top w/out spying the page images prematurely, but I have yet to master that skill.
To me it makes more sense to scroll back to the top after having read the page, then click next, and now you have a new page with no images or dialogue being spoiled as you quickly scroll back to the top of the page. Either top or bottom poses issues for comics being presented in this format, but top seems the most likely place IMHO.

I quite enjoyed it. Great art and great characterization.
As for the "big debate": the whole page is a "next page button", that's why your cursor looks like a hand when you place it on the page. Simply arrange the page how you want it for the next one and click anywhere. (It only works for next page so you'll have to use the button for previous page).

Really? Good thing I said something or I would never have learned this. I'll give this a try the next time I'm checking out future issues. Thanks, Gary!
BTW, just so I make myself clear. I took no issue with the work presented. I love's me some Guy Davis and John Arcudi BPRD, so all is well in that dept. My comments were aimed strictly at the presentation. However, it now appears that at least one of my comments may prove unfounded, and thankfully so.
Edit- Yep, you're absolutely correct, Gary. I feel sheepish now for having railed on so, but sometimes you don't learn unless you're willing to appear the fool.

I turned The Christmas Spirit and this new BPRD story into downloadable comic book files. Just get CDisplay to open them (search google).

Cool little story.
I wonder if we will see this collected later with Born Again, the Ectoplasm Man one-shot, and the War On Frogs mini?

Wow--that was harsh when Daimio shot the blond man!
I wonder what that ball the girl was holding is. Just a toy? An egg?

Maybe it's related to the seed he was yammeirng about.
Could it be connected to the ball that Roger was holding when Johann visited him inside his body?

The final chapter of the BPRD web comic was great! Thanks again S. Allie and crew for making these available, and to the great Guy Davis of course for illustrating like nobody's business!
Now I just have to get over the mentality of this web 'stuff' seeming like such a non-event, or filler for something greater yet to come. Granted, the X-mas story Mike and Guy did was very nice, but it sucks not being able to hold that story in my hot little hands and admire the glossy comic book pages over and over again. I know, I'm too old school for my own good, but such is life.
