View Full Version : Avatar Contest For The Week of 3-5-08

Michael P
03-05-2008, 07:43 AM
First, ye olde rules:

The CBR Avatar Contest© begins on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday, at which point voting begins, ending when Tuesday ends in all time zones. As a rule, voting before Tuesday is frowned upon, though exceptions are made if you've got a good reason. Suggesting avatar ideas for others is prohibited. By suggesting, you are in essence removing that idea from consideration by any and all players. Contest eligibility is dependent on keeping your entered avatar for the entire week. Changing your avatar before the week is up will disqualify you, unless you're changing it to something else that fits the contest theme and announce your change in the thread. Changing avatars within your chosen subject is permitted. Putting 'dibs' on a subject lasts for 48 hours, at which time it's free to be taken by somebody else. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the first vote by a poster who has not previously voted in that week's contest. There is no rule six! Ed Cunard (I assume by when the sentence got added) once got stung by a jellyfish in his bad place. We will not reveal the list of volunteers to urinate on him. The contest winner chooses the next week's contest theme and must add something stupid to the rules. Asking other posters to aid in shrinking an image to avatar size is allowable; however, failure to use said avatar is totally lame, and incessant mockery of you shall be encouraged. Value of prize is 1/100 of 1¢, and is not redeemable for cash. CBR management shall not be responsible for any monetary damages, intestinal distress or stigmata caused by said contest. No prize alternatives are available. If the winner does not respond with a new game by Thursday it will be up to the runner-up; unless something clever is decided such as defaulting to "comic book characters" or skipping the week for low voter turnout. All decisions are final, and bitching about the decisions in a silly online game is stupid and will result in shameless mocking for an indeterminate period of time. Contest void in Delaware. We aren't sure why, but who cares? It's Delaware.

In honor of the late Gary Gygax, the man who turned the childhood pasttime of "Let's Pretend" into an acceptable adult activity, this week's theme is What I wanted to be when I was a kid. And no boring jobs like doctor or accountant; these have to be awesome flights of fancy.

Like, for example, a space detective.

As a child, I always wished I could fly away, carefree. Given that videogames were also my main escape, I think the character of NiGHTS encompasses that dream well.

Paradox
03-05-2008, 08:24 AM
I'll have to think how to do this. See, I didn't want to be any particular super-hero, I wanted to be MY OWN. He was called Animal King, and had a special affinity for animals, a motorcycle, and an AWFUL split green and red costume that was later emulated by 3-D man!

OK, maybe I'll think of something else. :)

Lawrence Bird. I figured, hey, if that slow white guy who can't jump and can't play defense can make it big in the NBA, why not me?

Well, I'll tell you why not: I didn't shoot the 3-ball quite as well.

Don't like him either. Heck, I can't stand the entire 'Ace Attorney' series as a whole. Just ask my friends: they gave up trying to get me to play the series a long time ago.

Although for the 'I wanted to be a lawyer' theme I *could* use Harvey Birdman, Matt Murdock or She-Hulk... but I don't think I could stand looking at all of 'em for a whole week, as cool as they are. D=

03-06-2008, 06:42 AM
Not that I'm adding this as an avatar. Just reflecting on childhood, when I wanted to be a Superhero. I remember wanting my mother to make a costume for a character I created in the 3rd grade named Silver Lion, leader of the Silverlion Corps. (voltron was big with me back then, also the syndicated Adam West Batman series.) We started making up secret codes, designing characters and power sets. I didn't want to be a superhero when I grew up, i wanted to be one at the time when I was 8/9. (I think that's one reason I liked Kick Ass.) Maybe I'll explore the character further, get reaquainted.

anywho, can't think about what I wanted to be that hasn't been dibsded.
(illustrator, animator)
Well I was a model as a child. But when I stopped growing at 5'9 I figured that dream was over.

Thank god, I would have been Zoolander, because I'm really really ridiculously good looking.

As a kid, one of my dreams was to play guitar in a rock band (I figured it would probably be the only way I could ever get laid). Specifically, I wanted to play in the style of Jimmy Page, Randy Rhoads, Jimmy Hendrix, and Eddie Van Halen, among others.

Of course, that would have involved actually learning how to play guitar, which never happened, but hey, being a rock guitarist, it was a nice dream!
