Realistially, the team I would choose heavily depends on the mission they needed to perform. I'd choose 4 different people to handle Red Skull than I would Apocalypse.

But if I'm dealing with the unknown, then I guess I'd have to create a nice generalist team.

I'll go with Cable, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and War Machine.

i like this team
can be subtle if need be, but can blow things to hell at the same time
high threshold of pain
all have questionable motives and morals
but are not totally devoid of them, ie they dont kill for the fun of it (well often)
all very motivated, and are about getting the job done. which is essential
wont get sidetracked.

i keep looking at these teams people suggest and thinking "none of these people are good at being on teams/taking orders/looking out for their teammates/cooperating in general," but i suppose x-force isn't either, so i should just give into the whole spirit of the thing.

the illuminati would also be a group to consider, although they number more than four. don't forget its members have given life to clor, and pretty inhumanely exiled the hulk, which are not exactly smiled upon by their peers.. this group would probably do just about anything necessary besides murder in cold blood.
