View Full Version : Does the Ultimate Universe lack villains who rely solely on brains?

It seems to me, that unlike DCU or 616 MU, Ultimate Marevel doesn't have many villains who rely solely on brains. Ultimate doom for example has super powers. Many of the best super villains are ones who rely on intelligence and have no powers (ex: Lex Luthor and Joker.) Plus many of the non powered villains are treated liker jokes in the UU (ex: Vulture, Shocker, Boomerang, etc)

Of course most of those guys gained their intelligence through meta human experiments or mutant powers, rather than earning their intelligence by developing their IQ through study and hard work. Not what I was for.

There is the Kingpin. And he is one of Spideys main villains in the UU.

I forgot 616 Doom doesn't have any super powers.

... Minus his super powers. I guess you could argue he had to learn his arcane know-how. Still, 616 Doom's smarts are so unrealistic that you can't seriously knock Ultimate smarties for being metahumanly smart and then say 616 Doom is some shining example of what real, non-super powered smarts are.

The guy is so disgustingly intelligent that he can out-think every Ultimate baddie simultaneously in his sleep. His contingency plans for failed back-up contingency plans casually mention that he should use his Sun-Turner-Offer. Let me reiterate ... his back-up, back-up plans are schemes other genius super villains only get to use in company-wide crossovers if they're lucky.

So, I gotta tell ya, if Ultimate bad guys don't have to rely on PIS and CIS to not be conquering the known Universe then I think that's great.

Arnim Zola would count for this then, yes?

The Tinkerer from USM
Mojo(maybe?) from UXM

That's all I can think of.

Fury, Mad Thinker, Kingpin, Burbank, Silver Sable, Mojo, Weapon X, Delores

I don't think it really matters. Both Ultimate Doom and Magneto are very intelligent with powers too, and they're two of the best villains.
That said, Ultimate Kingpin's something of a badass, and he's just phat.

I apologise for the use of the term 'phat' in that last post. I'm ashamed of myself and the use of the phrase.

Unless we're talking about X-Statix. Which, this being the Ultimate forum, we're clearly not.

Red Skull, Baron Zemo and Lex Luthor could always pose a threat with brains alone and they were not as outlandish as Doom.

Heck most Batman's villains have no powers, but could pose a threat with brains alone and were not outlandish.

I would to see a villain (besides Kingpin) take on Spidey with nothing but his wits.

Even 616 villains who are lame, like Egghead and Trapster could be made into interesting foes who rely solely on their wits in the UU.

No no...I see his point.

I kind of think of 616 as a starting point for brains because the writers created their characters as nerds based upon themselves but with brawn. And alot of villains had brains but ultimately it's about power with brains that beat the old school 616 villains.

Ultimates has shown brains, but in a very fast foward version of 40 years of 616...so maybe the actual brain power doesn't get as much credit.

But, then again... in the 616 Uni...the brains are all but gone today. Hulk smash can beat the entire Uni. Tony, Reed, and the rest need Sentry to come in and fight Hulk to an alter ego KO...and then they fire up their brains.

Ultimates and Ulti X-Men have taken a back seat to it as of late....but Spiderman villains have been the smartest... it's Peter thats actually taken the major back seat to brains in the Ulti Uni and 616.

Save for Diablo most of the UFF's villains have been pretty intelligently plotted in terms of their plans.

EDIT: Right, the Russian ones in UFF sucked as well, but otherwise.
