Hey guys! I regularly pick up TPBs that are worthwhile (i.e. stories that my friends recommend) and haven't really been into picking up issue after issue, week after week. But I think I might start...
On that note, I haven't been exactly following DC's main event(s) and I really really want to get into Final Crisis. I'd be wholeheartedly grateful if someone can send me to a site or write a brief synopsis on everything that is leading up to Final Crisis (i.e. Countdown, etc.). I've read 52 (and loved it!) and that's why I've been more interested in this upcoming DC event. Also, I'd like to know which DC titles are important to pick up now/in the future.
Much appreciated!

Do what I did, read a bunch of Wikis and pickup whatever interests you storywise.

I was almost exactly in your shoes. Just prior to Countdown to Infinite Crisis I was starting to get into DC Comics. For What it's worth my experience is you do not have to know the whole backstory prior to reading a crisis event, I just picked up all the Infinite Crisis stories I could and picked up on it through there. If I did not understand something a quick wiki search would solve that problem.
At the conclusion of Infinite Crisis I realized I needed some crisis research. I picked up Crisis on Infinite Earths (A Must Have) and Identity Crisis(Not as important.)
For Final Crisis, I would recommend reading 52 and synopsis of Countdown up until now and start picking up the issues of countdown weekly.
Once you start reading DC it is a fun ride, and following the history is half the ride.
Good Luck!

I'd wait until DC UNIVERSE #0 comes out, which will only cost you 50 cents. It's done by Grant Morrison & Geoff Johns (both of whom wrote the best parts of 52). This comic is a newbie-friendly introduction to everything that's going on in the DCU Past, Present & Future.
That comic segues into FINAL CRISIS written by Grant Morrison again. It's DC's latest Big Universe Killing Event.
While you're waiting for those to come out. I'd recommend reading Justice Society of America & Green Lantern by Geoff Johns.
There's also All Star Superman by Morrison and DC: New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke (which just had a movie adaption come out)

Hey, thanks guys. Loved 52, so I started reading Countdown and I think I stopped around 48 because it did not interest me at all. I'll probably just wiki most of the stories leading up to Final Crisis since I hear Countdown is a complete let down.
But yeah, DCU #0 sounds interesting. I'll most likely pick it up.
